Hawaii Dental Clinic

I had a very good experience at this dental clinic. The hygienist, Jason, was excellent and professional.. My teeth felt thoroughly clean. Dr Harada was also professional as he went over my chart and checked my teeth.

Emergency scheduling was very timely, a generous break with office protocol in my favor. Major repair done quick and clean. No guess- work. Very reasonable cost. And the dental assistant hummed lyrically throughout the procedure. Very calming.

I have been avoiding the dentist for years. Had some major anxiety about it, particularly because at some point, I was wanting to get a silver amalgam removed but was fearful of all the online blogs and stuff that talk about mercury poisoning and the detoxification needed afterwards. I had a very large silver crown in my mouth that my intuition was telling me was an irritant in my system. (I can't even wear earrings with nickel or silver or my ears get infected after 15 minutes, so I just knew this little bit of metal was causing me minor issues).

But once I could no longer neglect another aching cavity in my mouth, I decided to call around the Kaimuki, Kahala area and see who could get me in. The receptionists at Kahala Dental Clinic got me in the next day and we scheduled my big appointment with Dr. Harada. At first I went in thinking I would need the laughing gas, I was that anxious, but after the numbing we went ahead and I made it through! He and the dental assistant were very good at telling me what point they were at in the procedures, and listened to my request to use a dental dam. I was actually comforted by the doctor's youthful and healthful appearance (honestly going to doctors who don't look or appear healthy themselves makes me wonder if they actually understand health at all). I also figured that being young, he was up to date on the latest dental technology and perhaps understood why the silver amalgam alloy isn't the best filling to give people. Turns out this clinic won't even offer the silver filling.

The receptionists handled my anxiety like loving mothers. :)

I think the hype about the silver amalgams was just enough to make me so afraid of overcoming the hurdle of getting them out, but really if you're a healthy person who sweats a lot and eats well, I don't think you have to be worried about the silver amalgam removal. After having it removed, I truly feel better and I think it's all of it, the relief of having it gone, and the fact that it's not there irritating my system. Eggs no longer have a metallic taste to them!
