Gentle Dental Makakilo/Kapolei

Avoid this place if you expect honest billing. This update is for Gentle Dental Makakilo. We never did get resolution of being overcharged and charged for a crown prep that never took place. I had another dentist grind that tooth down after extreme complications with the root canal gone wrong. Gentle Dental couldn't work on the tooth but charged my credit card anyways. They promised resolution back in July before my move from Hawaii, but no such resolution.

Everyone here at GD in Makakilo puts me at ease and addresses my issues. They couldn't be better. No pain, lots of smiles and laughs, highly professional.

Great service once I get in there. Only gripe is response time with phone calls and voicemails. Other than that they are great!

Have been going here for years. Very efficient & thorough. Love their updated records system and digital x-rays. Always friendly and helpful. Was worried when my dental hygienist retired because she had become a friend, but love my new hygienist, Aileen. Both Dr. Lees are great but a particular shout out to Dr. Janice Lee who prepared me for my oral surgeon visit. My oral surgeon was so pleased that I was not surprised by the proposed plan of care.

Always a great experience, Dr. S. Lee is highly professional, and he takes the time to explain treatment options. The dental assistants and front desk staff are always friendly and welcoming and are fantastic at what they do. It's always a pleasant experience, thank you.

The fillings I got were awesome and I appreciated the appointment reminders. However, rated 2 stars because the associates that handle your insurance make mistakes that can cost you a lot of money. Long story short, they initially said they accepted my insurance but realized they didn't, which cost me. I never would have came here if I knew for sure that they didn't accept my insurance. How was I seen here multiple times and their staff didn't catch that? Either way, they got paid and I got blindsided with costs.

These folks are awesome! And I am very much one of 'those people'... I HATE the dentist in general, always have. Eveyone in the office is always friendly, happy, and professional. They have done nothing but stellar work on me for almost 3 years now, all while doing everything possible to keep a nerve case like me as comfortable as possible. 10/10 would recommend.

I went in to get some work done. Dr. Lee and his assistant were very patient, calm, and communicated clearly explaining each step in the process. They made me feel at ease and in good hands. They went above and beyond in my experience. Most of all they were professional and gentle through out the whole process. I’m very appreciative and grateful for the work Dr. Lee and the whole staff at gentle dental Makakilo provide.

This has been one of the best Dental offices I’ve been to in a while. But lately it’s been impossible to get in contact with them. I’ve called daily, left messages, and finally had to go in just to see if they were still there. Their new phone system sucks and I guess was the cause of the lack of communication. Not to mention they’re down to one orthodontist, to share for all its Oahu offices to share. To make it worse she’s only there ONCE A MONTH. 🤦🏾‍♀️
If it wasn’t for the staff I would have left already.
Hopefully they get it together so I don’t have to switch.

There couldn’t be more true words than “Gentle” Dental. As far back as I can remember I have had anxiety with dental appointments. I have met the dental team that I call the dental dream team !!! Gentle - absolutely! No more anxiety when going for work when these two are doing the work and God is in the midst! Dr Downs and Janice her assistant are incredible. They work together as a well oiled machine, moving instinct and performing a beautiful job. The outcome of their work is fantastic. Thank you Janice and Dr Downs for eliminating my anxiety, for your compassion and for your amazing work. Well done !
