Review of Indiana University School of Dentistry

Indiana University School of Dentistry is a dental school located in Indianapolis, Indiana. As a part of Indiana University, the school offers dental services to the community while also providing education to dental students. The school is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and closed on weekends.

The school provides a range of dental services, including cleanings, fillings, root canals, and extractions. The services are performed by dental students under the supervision of licensed dentists. Patients can expect to receive quality dental care at a fraction of the cost of private practice. The school also offers a flexible payment plan for those who need it.

While the school has received mixed reviews from patients, many have praised the professionalism and kindness of the staff. Some patients have reported longer wait times and occasional miscommunications, but overall, the school provides quality dental care at an affordable price.

It is important to note that as a dental school, the services provided may take longer than a typical dental visit. Patients should expect to spend around 2.5 hours for each appointment. Additionally, the school does not offer dental services for children under the age of 12.

If you are looking for affordable dental care and are willing to spend a little extra time for your appointments, Indiana University School of Dentistry may be a great option for you.

Affordable High Quality Care Precise Work Comfortable Environment

I have received excellent care at the school. I needed several restorations, a root canal, crown, and surgical extraction. I could not have afforded to save my teeth if I had to go to a dentist at a private practice. I paid $43 for a root canal at the school and in the past at a regular dentist I paid over $600. It does take extra time because the students work very precisely and carefully. The students make sure you get top treatment. They work with a dentist close by that checks their work step by step.. I have felt so comfortable that I have even fallen asleep in the chair. I'm so thankful for the dental school and I highly recommend people go there for dental treatment. They take insurance. It's not just for low income people either. It's a very nice new clean facility also.

Dental Implants Poor Quality Control Compensation Issues Disability Access

After four years **yes count them four** and two set of implants they finally got it right at IU School of Dentistry. My Problem is that every step is supposed to be watched over by professors. The professors watched them make time costing error after error. I made countless appointments that were not easy for me being disabled. Getting credit for all of the errors was not an easy task either, and I don't feel I was fully compensated. They compensated for materials and labor, but not for the over one hundred hours spent getting my teeth what still is not perfect, but acceptable. You get what you pay for.

Unsatisfactory Results Overpriced

Well… I would say I like their care but I did not like my results. I got an unjustifiable excuse for what I originally came in for and why it wasn’t resolved. My overbite still projects though my gaps are closed as well with some other small details that were not corrected. I am not saying don’t come, but I am saying you get what you pay for. I will be going to an actual orthodontist to get a second consultation and will not be coming back. But I appreciate again the friendliness of the back staff…

Affordable Quality Care Educational Experience

I've had great dental care at IUPUI's Dental School. The process takes longer than at a regular dentist, but if you can afford to wait, then I'd highly recommend. The cost is very fair as well. You'll likely see significantly lower costs, depending on your needs, of course. They do accept and coordinate billing with your insurance, if you have it.

Your student dentist will be competent, adept at using the latest techniques and materials, and will also be working under the supervision of the dentist professors(?).

I personally enjoy the way the instructors question your student when treatment plans or findings warrant further clarification or the like. You'll hear them rattle off answers or opinions in an interesting jargon/term-heavy language that you've likely only heard brief snippets of in a dentist's office previously.

It's probably not for you if you have emergent dental needs, but if you don't mind letting the process work, then it may be a more inexpensive option for dental care.

Affordable Good Quality

First off just keep in mind, that these are students. So it takes about 2--2 and half hour's for them to get done with you. But they do an excellent job. And there is always a professor near by that they have to check in with everytime they get done. But the best part is it's cheap, if you need something done. Plus you still get the same great care as you would anywhere else.

I cannot recommend this place more. If there was a higher rating, then I'd give it.

Top-notch professionals Best treatment received Students actively teach and encourage patients about improvements to dental hygiene Meticulous hand-scraping cleaning Gentle but thorough cleaning Convenient location Affordable and takes insurance Relatively flexible scheduling

The students here are top-notch professionals. I have gone to several dentists in the past for general cleanings and the treatment I received here was by far the best.

Pros: Students actively teach and encourage patients about improvements to dental hygiene. Students keep track of oral health (eg. plaque and gum level) each visit. The cleanings so far are all done by meticulous hand-scraping instead of a quick run-of-the-mill electric "grinder" that doesn't reach the crevices between teeth (typically used at most private dental offices). Gentle but thorough cleaning, which is checked by a dentist and faculty member. Convenient location. Affordable and takes insurance. Relatively flexible scheduling.

Cons: It took over a month to become a new patient partially due to the pandemic. It may take longer than a typical private office visit but that is offset by the quality of care and attention to detail. I was accidentally billed for something that was 100% covered under my insurance but that was taken care of after it was brought up.

Thank you for the amazing cleanings so far! I would recommend anyone to go.

Affordable High Quality Care Safe Environment

The BEST dental care I have EVER had. All necessary precautions are in place to assure safety. Students are CAREFULLY supervised. Nice comfortable suites and the most up to date equipment , products, and procedures. All at a fraction of the cost at, I'm going to say ALL dental offices. I was thoroughly impressed. As I am the biggest coward when it comes to visiting the dentist, I am sold on this remarkable school. A real winner!
