I'm done. I've been a patient of his for 30 yrs & a recent visit was my last. I was charged over a hundred dollars for him to send me somewhere else for an extraction. I understand a business may change their services along the way, but he pretty well knew that's what I needed before I came in.

Dr Smith is the only dentist I have ever been to that I have needed no pain medication, even after a root canal. Gentle is an understatement. Very attentive about the quality of his work. I recommend him regularly to friends, family and people I meet.

Dr. Richard E. Smith’s fair weather dentistry. On a day when every dentist office in Springfield was open, I received a text at 6:42 AM that they would be closed today because of weather. I then received a follow up call at 8:05 AM to verify I received their text and my appointment was cancelled.
I was informed Dr. Smith does not manage his own business and that his “office” decided to close because of weather.
With no recognizable weather event I find this to be “country club dentistry”. Springfield schools are open and roads are clear.
If you value work ethic and appreciate people’s time, I would pick Duff Family Dental or another practice that places service and patient’s needs above an office manager’s whim. As I stated, all other dentist offices are open in the Springfield metropolitan area.
Winter comes every year and somehow a hint of precipitation causes Dr. Smith’s business to shut down. Evidentially, without him actually making that decision.
Values like schedules, patient comfort, and business ethic have been lost at this office.
A real weather event should be addressed seriously, but this certainly was not the case.
