South Chico Dental Care: Daniel D. Surh, DMD

3 Stars I apologize for any grammatical errors. A long story incoming, but the TLDR is that, while this place is a good place to get dental work done, it can be highly suspect in terms of them accepting your insurance. Even if they’ve accepted it in the past. So be cautious if you go here. Dr. Surh is thorough, knowledgeable, and not too intimidating as far as dentists go which is a plus. And his assistant staff are great as well. The lady that did my routine cleanings always did good work. However, the reason as to why I’m giving them 3.5 stars as opposed to 5 stars is because of an insurance incident that really damaged their brand to me. After a routine cleaning this past August, I was hit with a large bill. 146.00 $ to be exact. But my dental plan, an Anthem Blue Cross PPO, included 2 routine dental cleanings each year as completely covered charges. I call Dr. Surh’s office and they tell me that my insurance tells me that this is all that they’re not covering as much as they used to which is odd. I ask them to run the claim again, which they do. A week and change pass by and I get a call from a collections agency about this debt owed to Dr. Surh. Turns out, the new claim was denied because second claims on already paid for claims gets declined. I’m a little spooked and call Surh’s office asking why this is the case and they’re not quite sure. I ask them if they’ve changed their insurance acceptance policies and they tell me that they haven’t for over two years. And I’ve used them within that time for the same cleanings and they’ve been covered. So now I’m freaking out and then decide to call the insurance directly. They tell me that Dr. Surh’s office decided not to renew their contract with my insurance plan. This was done on the July before my cleaning in August. They also mention to me that when providers drop an insurance policy, it’s standard practice to tell the patients that have those insurance policies to probably find other healthcare providers. Or

I felt very welcomed at Dr. Surh’s office. Everyone on his staff were helpful and friendly. Dr. Suhr and Shannon were not only professional, but informative and personable. Front desk staff are wonderful!

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Surh for years now. He is very attentive and goes above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and welcome. I’ve never had a more personable and caring dentist before. During my pregnancy, he took the time to make sure I understood how pregnancy hormones would affect my oral health and gave me great advice on how to take care of my oral hygiene during pregnancy. I 100% recommend Dr. Surh!

Truly State of the Art Dentistry, yet the really impressive part is how simple and efficient each visit is. That does not happen accidentally, nor do I take it for granted. Well done as always.

Scheduling appointments and communicating with the front desk is always a pleasant experience, the hygienists are friendly & do excellent work, and Dr. Surh is a fantastic Dentist – would highly recommend!

I work in the customer service industry so I know what top notch service is and this dentist office has it nailed. I switched to Dr. Surh last year when my previous dentist was terrible. From walking through the front doors here starting with the front desk, to the hygienist, dental assistant, to Dr. Surh the service is incredible! With all the challenges COVID has done on all businesses they haven’t skipped a beat. Consistent communication on openings, text messages to remind you of appointments, emails, pricing, appointment times and follow up on dental work done, I’m pleased. This dentist goes out of his way to make sure are pleased with his work and that you leave with the smile you deserve. Highly recommended!! Best dentist I’ve experienced

Professional and reasonable

Dr. Surh and his staff office are gems! After 30 yrs of struggling with maintenance on my teeth, I finally found the one dentist who brought me to 100% and I have been maintaining for the last 2 yrs. They are fast, accomdating, affordable and everything you would hope for in dentistry. Dr. Surh always asks how our family is doing and remembers the name of my husband and son. I love and am grateful for what his office brings to our community. A special thank you to Dr. Surh for his service as well!

Dr Surh has been my best dental experience thus far! I've taken awful care of my teeth and now that I found Dr Surh, I'm ready to get everything back to health! I got one tooth extracted and he took great care of me. Went ABOVE and BEYOND to make sure my healing went well and my pain stayed low. I appreciate the service and care I received by his staff as well. Very friendly and kind. A dental office that genuinely cares about your dental health is hard to find. This office is a rare find for sure! :)

Dr Surh and his office ladies always take phenomenal care of me. Over the last few years, they have brought my teeth and mouth up to full health, and now I can just maintain that health. It’s always fun to see everybody, they know me by name, and I always leave there with a bigger smile.

Dr. Surh is a fantastic dentist. The staff working at the front desk are kind, courteous, and helpful. The dental hygienists are very professional and the exam rooms at South Chico Dental Care are very clean. They have TVs in them. The TVs greatly reduced my anxiety and gave me something to do while my teeth were being cleaned.

This office is exceptionally clean, efficient and qualified. From the moment you walk in you can tell that this is a very professional and well maintained environment. Don't know about you, but I appreciate that in a dentist! Only complaint would be the quick in and out feel, not as much conversation as I would have liked regarding my inquiries on possible dental ortho treatments they had available. I did grab some pamphlets on the way out and called with questions later that were answered on the call. They had someone cancel their cleaning and so I was offered the open appointment after my initial. Only an office who cares makes the effort to get as many things taken care of in one appointment as they can and it was very much appreciated. No issues billing insurance and they prepared me for my new patient appointment to help facilitate timeliness as much as possible. From text reminders to emailing me my new patient packet to have ready ahead of time, they really go above and beyond. Looking forward to my next visit!

I came in 15 minutes early as a new patient, they took my paperwork instantly, took my xrays quickly, I met Dr. Surh who was very friendly, and was out of there within twenty minutes after setting a new appointment for my cleaning! I’ve never had such quick, efficient & friendly service from a dentist office. I’m happy to be a new patient and would recommend this office for anyone!
