terrible experience … i went to this surgeon about 4 days ago to pull 2 wisdoms out . when i made the appt , they didn’t tell me anything that’ll help me prepare for my surgery. the day coming in , i had MINIMUM communication with dr.nguyen . he came in , didn’t tell me the numbing process or anything. when he numbed me , i wasn’t fully numbed and i could tell just from the way i would move my tongue and still had feeling … he said that we have totally different nerves from our top jaw and bottom jaw so i just blew it off and said ok . when he came to start the procedure , i immediately felt more than i was suppose to . i needed more numbing maybe 5-6 times . he was VERY rough with my face , at one point my face up against his stomach . after the procedure he didn’t talk to me or anything he just up and left . later that day they said they faxed my medication to the pharmacy , we went there and the pharmacy got nothing from them . i went a WHOLE DAY with no pain killers or antibiotics . not until later the next day was my mom able to contact them and ask them … their response was that they did and they must have forgotten to submit it or something . i don’t recommend at all !!!!!!

Oh goodness where to begin. I’m going to keep it simple and be very transparent. The manager was very rough when concern was expressed about the care of my niece. As a surgical assistant rule one is NEVER let a dentist pull wisdoms because they’re not properly trained to do so period! She was in pain and needed them out asap. Not only did they not sedate her properly, but she was partially awake and she remembers them yelling at her to keep still! She was so traumatized! Then upon healing they didn’t call her for a post op to check on her and when we reached out because she swelled so severely and was in so much pain they brushed it off not waiting to take accountability. She went to the emergency room TWICE! She had a bad infection and heavy trauma was noted. Dr Nguyen if the teeth were too impacted then you should have referred her out period!! Clearly this was out of your scope! I’m outraged by the poor services provided from the extraction to the sedation and to the lack of after care. Please go to an oral surgeon! As for the manager and Dr. Nguyen SHAME on you. She’s a child and she’ll have to live with this and is now more fearful of the dentist! Stay within your scope as a dentist!

Not only was this a traumatic experience for my son on too many levels to post on a Google review; but we paid this dentist for four extractions. He only completed three. Nguyen went onto tell my son he “would have died had he completed the fourth extraction”. Under twilight sleep? Sounds as if he doesn’t have good enough anesthesia/ time management skills to entrust your loved ones’ lives to. His anesthesia certification is separate and from Ohio. There are many complaints made against him. Please look into them prior to having a procedure there. We are still waiting for our money to be returned for the fourth extraction. That’s insurance fraud. And it’s theft. And the office continues to dodge our calls. The only professional human in that practice is Karina. She had to step in when the Dentist actually got into a verbal altercation with my 21 yo son. Raising his voice and making fun of him for asking to call me, his mother. I was on the mainland- my son learning to live on his own in Hawaii & being mocked/condescended to by a dentist who was behaving in such an inappropriate manner (putting his hands on my son’s shoulders while mocking him, etc) & Dr Nguyen actually went on to further ridicule my son for wanting to call his mother to see if he should move forward with any further treatment plans? Umm, no son! Your gut instincts were 100% correct. Get out of there. He left my son with three gaping holes (down to the jawbone) that have STILL not healed 2.5 months later. And he can breathe through the top extraction hole leading into his sinuses. Read the other unsolicited reviews that aren’t on Google. Terrible experience.
What a scam. This place is rubbish. Dental assistant always rushes you to sign the papers and the entire staff smokes cigarettes including Dr Nguyen.

As good an experience as wisdom teeth extractions can be. My only complaint is that they chipped one of my molars while fighting with my stubborn teeth. Other than that, dentist & assistant were kind and I was ssuuupper nervous.

I was able to make an appointment easily. The staff is friendly and well spoken a listened to concerns and actually read the health history. They were thoughtful and pleasant. And Dr Nguyen was able to complete my complicated issue in what I can only describe as world record time , with as near to painless as it can get. I am so impressed on this performance that I am planning my future dental needs with this dentist.

Dr Nguyen is a really nice guy. I don’t hear doctors say please and thank you during procedures so I felt that he’s very considerate of others. Also I was super nervous but when he talked about his children I felt calm thinking about my kids too. Thank you Dr Nguyen and staff!

I’ve had two dental appointments to remove both top left and right wisdom teeth along with decayed ones with Dr. Nguyen. He was excellent and personable during my visit. He made sure I was comfortable and that I would not feel any pain during my extractions. Dr. Nguyen confirmed beforehand that all areas expected for surgery was numb and ready to proceed with the extraction. His staff was pleasant with great, friendly manners to make you feel calm for your visit to go smoothly. Thank you Dr. Nguyen and staff!

I have an abscess tooth. I set up an appointment for 11/3/2020. I arrive, I completed the required forms then the team member came outside to where I'm sitting to inform me the extraction can not be done because this dentist is not in the network of my insurance provider. So much about patient care; it is all about the money.
By the way my insurance does cover out of network services. It would cost me more but at this point that is not the option this dentist took and did not help me. They just sent me away on pain. Again; it is all about the money not the person in need.
Thanks for nothing.

I went to Island Ohana Dental for an emergency appointment, they referred me to Dr.Nguyen for a wisdom extraction. I googled him, looked at the reviews, some not so nice & some reviews were good, not gonna lie I was hesitant by the poor reviews I seen about this Oral Surgeon. I went into Dr.Nguyen the next day, 12:45 I checked in, the dental assistant called me in the back to do my x-rays, she was
a local Aunty & very nice. Finished my paperwork, she asked since I was going to have 2 wisdom teeth extracted, if I wanted to do the other 2 & get them all over with instead of having to come back. I agreed, the Dr.Nyugen came in & seen that I had 2 teeth that were dead & broken, he asked if I wanted to remove those too, I agreed. I mean why not ? So he started to numb me, then he pulled all 6 teeth out in about 10-15 mins top, fast, simple & I didn't feel a thing. I would recommend this Dentist, they were so awesome & I was soooooo nervous. Mahalo ! 🤙

I was quite nervous after two failed attempts at an extraction elsewhere in Hilo this week. However, Dr. Nguyen and his staff were super competent, informative, in good spirits, and put me at ease. I felt super comfortable about moving forward in what seemed like a difficult situation due to my two previous experiences over the last week. It was done efficiently. I have had issues in the past with Novacaine not covering my entire pain. Dr. Nguyen went slowly, he checked certain areas in a non invasive manner until I gave him the go ahead that I was confident nothing hurt. It was then that he went ahead with the procedure, but he reminded me that I could raise my hand at any point if I was uncomfortable. It was pain free and quick. He answered all of my questions in detail, gave me more than enough information for after care, and prescribed everything that might be needed for the next couple of weeks. I was very impressed. I definitely have an irrational fear of dentist visits, but this might have completely reset that fear! I'm satisfied.

My very nervous 17 year old daughter had to have all 4 wisdom teeth pulled, 2 of which were impacted. The nurse and Dr were so calm and positive with her. They recommended the extra IV meds, but I could not pay it, and they did not push the issue, as my daughter handled the local numbing so well. The DR understood that she was nervous, and told her if she felt any pain during the procedure, to raise her left hand. She did, and he administered more local meds. She did great, and he, and his staff, had awesome bedside manners. It took only 15 minutes to complete, and he prescribed 4 different meds, from mouth rinse to antibiotics to pain meds. Very good experience. I recommend him 100%.

I neve write review but my experience was so horrible I have to share. Dentist reviewed my health history PRIOR to me coming in. After x-rays and getting me settled he stated he refused to do my dental work. He said numbing wouldn't work for me. I'm a nurse so I asked what type of sedation he used cause fentanyl/versed works great for me. He REFUSED to tell me, stated since he's not doing the extractions he did t have to tell me. The nurse whispered that was what he used (why wouldn't he just say that!!!!) and I said that I do very well with that he said. I'm just not doing it. I'll refer you to Oahu! What? I'm in Hilo and don't want to go to another island for dental work. It was absolute BS and I would never ever reccome do him to anyone! He was rude and unprofessional and made me start crying. What a jerk.
