I believe this practice is dishonest regarding the need for deep cleaning and goes against the dental association recommendations for deep cleaning. It is obvious that this practice is telling patients to have expensive & extensive procedures without need to increase their bottom line. A relative referred me to this practice due to a good experience regarding dentures. Since they were a (Delta Dental) preferred provider I made an appointment in November for a 6 months check up & cleaning prior to a scheduled knee replacement surgery. When I saw my regular dentist of 22 years in May, I received the usual good report regarding my teeth & gums. When I met with the dental hygienist at Hills Dental, I reiterated that I needed the cleaning prior to knee replacement surgery in 3 weeks. I was in so much pain that I was using a cane. Yet, instead of a cleaning, I had over $500 of xrays and was told I needed a deep cleaning or I may lose my teeth in the future. They indicated it showed gingivitis & the beginning of bone loss & periodontal disease. I was very upset & yet they tried to get me an appointment for a deep cleaning 30 days after my surgery instead of before. Having previously had a hip replacement, I knew that didn’t sound right. I ended up contacting my surgeon who advised if I needed that procedure, we would have to delay surgery as this is prohibited for a minimum of 6 months to a year after surgery. Thankfully my old dentist had a cancellation, I was examined and told that my gums & teeth were in good shape & he wrote a letter to the surgeon stating I did not have any need for additional procedures & confirmed I had no dental problems so the surgery could stay as scheduled. When I looked on the web at web md the requirement for deep cleaning is if the gums have receded to over a #5. I had all 2,3 & 4’s and two fives on their own exam. My dentist stated I had only one 5 with no bleeding on a back crown that had been that way for five years. After this very

When I walked into the office, I was greeted warmly by the staff as well as the other patients in the waiting area. My wait was brief. The staff were courteous and thorough. They made sure I understand everything they said. The dentist was gentle. The apprehension i carried with me from childhood has been vanquished. I would definitely go back and recommend others.
