For some background, I'm 40 years old and became a patient of Cornerstone Dental when I moved to the area 1 1/2 years ago. I initially liked going to this dentist. On my first visit, the hygienist and dentist identified a new cavity that needed filling and an existing filling that needed to be replaced. That was a good experience getting that handled (as fun as dental work can be). These two cavities are the only cavities I've had my entire life. My previous dentist always praised the condition of my teeth and I usually had no problems. On what I believe was my third regular cleaning at Cornerstone, I had a different hygienist and things immediately went downhill. She mentioned right away that I had multiple fractures in my teeth from what she thought was some hard clenching at night. This was very alarming to me! Cracks in my teeth are not what I want! After starting the gum recession check, she stopped what she was doing and said that we needed to get serious about my gum recession. She recommended that we not continue with my usual cleaning and inspection because what I really needed was tooth scaling and root planing. She spoke with the dentist about her recommendations and the dentist agreed. The hygienist asked if I had a family history of diabetes and I told her that my grandfather did have diabetes. She suggested that my gums might be in poor heath because I might have diabetes! This took me extremely off guard! I ended up making a doctors appointment to get tested for diabetes right away and the tests came back negative. Perhaps the hygienists shouldn't be giving out such serious diagnoses without testing first. Cornerstone sent me home without finishing the regular cleaning and sent a quote to my insurance to see if they would pay for the multiple deep cleaning sessions they recommended. Several weeks later, I got a letter from my dental insurance saying that they would not pay for the deep cleaning and that it would cost $800 for each of th
