My Dentist of 22 years retired, office in Charlotte, so I needed to find another dentist closer to home in Union County. My original dentist was very conservative with my dental care & I appreciated that since I inherited my father’s bad teeth. To say I have a lengthy relationship with dentists since I was a child is an understatement!!
I began researching Dentists in the area that might practice conservatively & Also needed someone who would take a payment plan since I have no dental insurance.
In January 2023, I interviewed the front desk staff & relayed my wishes as listed above as well as my need for a March 2023 cleaning Appointment. After discussing I selected Dr Ernst for my Dental Provider.
My appointment was March 24,2023. From the time I walked in the door through the entire “Initial Visit”, I knew I had made the correct decision!! Each employee from the front desk to the X-ray tech to the dental hygienist to Dr Ernst to the business office staff were all Professional, personable, knowledgeable in their area of expertise AND explained the treatment plan in a way that was easy to understand. You could tell they were really wanting to do what is best for the customer without ANY surprises. They were willing to work with me to determine the most appropriate treatment plan. One that would meet MY NEEDS & not just theirs. I look forward to a positive, lengthy relationship with my new DENTAL TEAM!!
Thank you Pleasant Plains Dental Team!!!!

The best dentist I have ever had. I've had so much dental work in the past and Dr. Ernst was by far the most gentle with an amazing outcome. Root canal on a tooth with a crown, No pain and no need for a crown replacement!
My father always said that there are two "things" in this world you don't ever share: your wife and your mechanic!
I'd like to add to that: your hygienist!!
But since I rarely followed my dad's advice (youth wasted on young & all), and my mechanic retired (without my permission!), I can only shout from the mountain tops about my favorite hygienist, Kayla. She is the only hygienist I prefer and request for my family. I had gone to an oral surgeon at a different office ; since i was due for a cleaning, i just had her hygienist clean my teeth. The doctor commented on the cleanliness of my teeth; I told her I floss frequently during the day and use a Sonicare toothbrush. She said it was more than just Sonicare clean and I attribute that to Kayla!

I had 2 root canals done at Pleasant Plains. Paid 2 thousand dollars a piece to have them done. They don’t accept payment plans other than care credit. I maxed out the care credit card because I had to have the root canals done. Years later I have two BAD infections in my root canals. I went back to Pleasant Plains in July because that is when I noticed I was having some pain. They did x rays and told me I had an infection. They did not give me any antibiotics to clear infection but told me to call an endodontist to see what the problem was. I called who they recommended and got no response back. Fast forward to 6 months later, I was back in pleasant plains again. This time they tell me yes I have a real bad infection in both root canals. They aren’t sending me to an Endodontist and they quote me for removal of the root canal, bone graft, and implants for 2 teeth. Their quote was $6900 for 2 teeth and no payment plan. My care credit is maxed out because of the 2 root canals I got done there and I don’t know who can just pay $6900 with out a payment plan. Since going back to pleasant plains I have gotten 3 other opinions on my root canals that were preformed at Pleasant Plains. All 3 of the dentist and endodontist that I’ve seen have all asked “who did your root canals?” And all 3 of the people I’ve gotten other opinions from have told me that whoever did my root canals did a HORRIBLE job. Needless to say, I got both teeth removed yesterday where the root canals were. The oral surgeon who pulled my teeth said that whatever Pleasant Plains did when they did my root canals, they didn’t clean the chambers properly and that whatever they put in my roots broke inside the canal which is what caused the infection. Now I have paid $4000 for two root canals which I no longer have those teeth anymore due to poor workmanship on root canals. Please beware when going here to have work done. As to their response. I had 2 root canals at Pleasant Plains. Not 1. You can pull m

I chose Pleasant Plains from a list sent to me by my insurance. I had a cap come off and left with a jagged tooth. I called and was given an appointment that day. The dental assistant, I believe her name was Amber, was so nice and I thought if this is the way the rest of the staff was, I had hit the jackpot. And it was.
I can’t say enough about this place. The office is very clean, modern with up to date medical equipment.
If you are looking for a great dental office, give them a try. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Worst dentist office ever. In 7/21 a dental hygienist pulled on my sons braces chain and removed it claiming his Orthodontist and surgeon was incorrect and attached the chain to a fragment of a baby tooth. When asked to return the chain so we could give it to his Orthodontist, she said she threw it away and was unable to locate it. This caused my son to have to have a second oral surgery to reapply the chain, resulting in him missing school, being on a liquid diet for days etc. Because we were forgiving of the mistake and grateful to the Oral Surgeon for not charging for the second surgery, we decided to give them another chance. Today, I visited with my two children for our route dental cleaning and was charged for the first time a fee. I paid without questioning it till the end of our visit and after I called my insurance company to find out if something had changed since the first of the new year. I was told by Cigna no changes preventive was covered at 100%. When I questioned the sudden out of pocket charge at check out. I was told for the first time in two years of visiting that they are out of network with Cigna, not all Cigna plans just some and mine was one of them. And since they just figured this out, I now owe for the last TWO years of visits for three people dating back to 1/2020. Not once in two years of visits was I ever told I had a balance, received a bill, was emailed a statement stating a balance was owe or was told they were out of network. This is absolutely ridiculous, unprofessional and out right dishonest behavior from Pleasant Plains Dental. I am appalled with the staff running the office.
On a side note, the dental hygienist who cleaned out teeth today was very good. No complaints there.

Pleasant experience every time I come here. Gentle dentists and hygienists. Had my first root canal done with Dr. Ernst, and he was so gentle and worried about any pain the entire time, talked me throughout the entire procedure. Highly recommend.

Great experience. No one wants to have their teeth scraped on but to stay healthy it’s not an option. Kayla does an awesome job and it doesn’t take all day. Highly recommend this office based on the work they have done for me. Thank you.

I own an Insurance business in Indian Trail and have been referring my clients to Dr. Ernst. My crown fell off on Thursday and I called Pleasant Plains to cement it back on. They did not return my call. I called Monday afternoon and got an appointment on Tuesday at 3:30. They told me it would be $57.00 when got there and I paid them. I waited 45 minutes. They took my crown and cleaned it, they then laid me back in seat. When they returned she said this will be $90.00 to cement back on. Afterwards I ask to see the manager about how they sneakily approached me on the cost. Why not inform me when I got there and paid $57.00. She was not very kind. I left expecting Insurance to be filed . I received a call from them saying I left without paying. I hadn't even got to my office 10 minutes away. I paid by phone and will never refer another person to this place of business. I feel they should return the $90.00. They seem to be very Corporate. $$$

If I could give zero stars I would. My daughter was due to have her 4 wisdom teeth out and a root canal and the person administering the anesthesia could not find a vein so instead of ending the treatment, she thought she put it in a vein further down the arm (never have I seen a needle placed there). Well low and behold it did not go fully in the vein and instead the medication was seeping into her arm. Again, instead of stopping the Dr. proceeded to move forward. We are told that my daughter began waving her arms and moaning when he began so obviously even though she was mildly sedated she could feel and sense what was going on. They then decided to stop and we were told the needle came out during this process. My daughter left crying and not knowing what happened. They will not give us the name of the person that put the needle in but she clearly does NOT KNOW what she is doing and is incompetent. My daughter is home with a swollen and bruised arm and swollen face and now we have to go see another Orthodontist. They then write on the documents that my daughter did not take well to anesthesia....WRONG....YOU DID NOT PLACE IT CORRECTLY and have incompetent staff doing this!!!!

I called today for a dental emergency. I had called several places and I was giving up hope. I called them after 12 and they got me in at 2pm! Everyone was very caring from the front desk, to the dentist himself. Thank you!
