I really enjoyed coming to this place! I Had a very bad toothache due to a previous root canal. These awesome people fit me in not even an hour after I called. I really enjoyed the staff and the dentist that pulled my tooth! Thank you guys so much, y’all are awesome, keep rocking on
Update: I spoke too soon! 2 days after having the extraction done I am in TERRIBLE pain! No exaggeration. I tried to call today and see if they would prescribe me something other than Ibuprofen or if I needed to be seen. I spoke to a nice lady at the front desk and was told i’d receive a call back due to her having to speak to a doctor, which I completely understood because I, myself work in a vets office so I get it. Well, I never received a call back and I think that’s very unprofessional because when there is a client, in legit agonizing pain, wouldn’t you want to do everything you could to help? Anyway, I loved the staff but did not appreciate the careless effort made to help me feel more comfortable. I have made a new appointment with a different dentist. Thank y’all for being kind, but next time, try and have some sympathy for your patients. We really are in pain, not just looking for drugs.

Despite the reviews I needed to get an xray done to figure out why my tooth was hurting so bad after a root canal. Everyone I interacted with was very kind. The dentist explained things to me where I undrrstand. The only thing I didnt care for was the xray thing that goes in your mouth. It smelled funny and it looked severely worn down. Def needs an upgrade but other than that It was a nice experience.

(Uodate: VCU oral surgery is MUCH better & accepts Medicaid no problem!) These people just can’t get it right with the customer service. Tried and unfortunately this will be my last attempt with this dentist. Then for the receptionist to tell me that they are accepting clients but per the doctors wishes no Medicaid patients until after January?!! So I’m fine with that. Oh no I can’t even make the appointment because “we’re not even putting new Medicaid patients in our books right now”. So why not just schedule me for a time after January? No reason just that. Won’t be calling back or referring anyone else. Very nasty. Seems a little discriminatory against Medicaid patients.
While searching for a dentist in my new area I stumbled upon Dhakar Family Dentistry. I spoke with Taylor while scheduling an emergency appointment and she was awesome! She was kind, welcoming, and provided expertise that helped alleviate my problem until I am able to get into the office. First impressions mean everything and can make or break a relationship. Taylor wowed me and if her care and concern. She definitely made the office shine!

I could barely talk from mouth pain and was treated disrespectfully just setting up an appointment over phone. Terrible service and I won't be calling ever again.

I've been going to this dental practice since they've opened and they are amazing at what they do. I've paid out of pocket over a thousand dollars for work and had insurance cover some things and my experience has always been consistently good. My recent experience was an emergency extraction that they fit me in to take care of although they are booked through Jan 2022. They do accept Medicaid/Medicare and that is a blessing bc not many dentist take Medicaid/Medicare for adults who are not pregnant. Medicaid/Medicare does not reimburse dentist nearly enough for certain procedures and that is the reason most dentist stay away from it. Even though they do accept Medicaid/Medicare they aren't just doing the quick work (cleanings, fillings, exams, x-rays, consults), they do complicated extractions, root canals with build-up, and other time-consuming procedures that they aren't reimbursed enough for, but are trying to help the community that needs this type of work more than ever. Because you have free will, you can choose to go to whichever dentist you want to, but if you choose to go to a dentist that accepts the minimally reimbursed insurances then be patient, the way they will be with you and your unhealthy mouth, or go somewhere else.

I was in desperate need of an endodontist in the Richmond area that accepted adult Medicaid. After going through the entire list of referrals that my dentist gave me, not one of them accepted adult medicaid! I called about 10 more numbers from Google, before finding Dr Dhakar. I noticed that Dr Dhakar's website mentioned that they accepted adult medicaid. In rva, that's almost like finding a unicorn. I called and spoke with the front desk assistant, who did inform me that they accepted adult Medicaid and do provide services for root canals. Unfortunately in my case, they had to refer me somewhere else. Even though that they didn't need to, the receptionist was more than helpful! The other 15 plus dentists that I called, would take me through the intake process, only to let me know at the end of the process, that they did not accept adult medicaid, nor did they try to further assist me. The front desk assistant at Dr Dhakar referred me to an endodontist that accepted adult medicaid, GAVE ME THEIR NAME AND TELEPHONE NUMBER and I was able to get an appointment within 10 days! Even though this doctor could not help me directly, they were courteous, kind and most of all professional enough to send me in the right direction, to get an appointment, so I could get my root canal done. Exceptionally professional and courteous. I would definitely use this location for my dental services. If they go that far and beyond their call of duty, FOR A NON-PATIENT, then you know that they're going to do the same for an existing patient of theirs, for treatment needed! Being a seven star Google guide, I read through the reviews about this location. I noticed that the very negative one-star reviews, the majority of those people were basically making their very first Google review. The reviews that had high ratings, were people who are Google guides just like me. GOOGLE GUIDES ARE RELIABLE EVERYDAY PEOPLE, that have spent the time to review AT LEAST 70 or more multiple businesses and se

I was told A MONTH AGO that if I needed a root canal today instead of a crown that it would be no issue, they would just do that. Instead, I have to schedule something somewhere else.
I won't be returning here. There's zero chance I'm coming back to pay $1200 for the post-root canal crown when I've been dealing with this waaaay longer than needed because of Dhakar Family Dentistry. I would have never waited this long has I known I STILL wouldn't be able to get it fixed today. Pathetic.
OH I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT THEY CHARGED ME FOR THIS PRIVILEGE! $70!
Don't go here.

The staff is very rude, nasty, and disrespectful towards women of color and pregnant women. Even before I was pregnant, they look down on people with Medicaid like they're better than others.
The staff was insensitive to my needs and ultimately refuse to accommodate me because I'm pregnant. All I wanted to do was get my dental work done. They scheduled appointments super far months away and don't tell you what you need to bring as in paperwork completed until you show up to your appointment. Which makes you have to reschedule.
I've been going here since about 2018, and they do very little work but want to take a million x-rays. They never once during any of my checkups offer a teeth cleaning. They act like they can't do the simplest / routine dental work and refer you someplace else.
And the work that they have completed is lacklustre & subpar Save yourself the headache and just go somewhere else.

Pulled my wisdom tooth and put a hole in the tooth in front of it. Told me that I needed to get some work done on that tooth but did not repair the hole he put in the tooth. I eventually lost the tooth that he cracked which all could of been avoided if he repaired that day what he messed up

I had a very poor experience at this dentist. The assistant was very kind, but I was very upset when they started placing the X-ray body cover on me without getting my consent to do X-rays. I told them that I didn’t want to do X-rays because I wasn’t sure my insurance covered it. Upon being assured that it would fully cover it, I allowed the X-rays. I just got the bill from my insurance, which did not cover it...
Also, the dentist who cleaned my teeth was very heavy handed which made the cleaning the most painful one I have ever had. In addition, he made me feel ashamed for having a teeth grinding problem, which is not something I can control. He claimed my front teeth are disproportionately small for my age, which doesn’t make since considering I have an overbite and don’t grind those teeth. No prior dentist had spoken about my teeth that way so it was very upsetting. Overall, my experience was very upsetting and painful.
