I went for a deep cleaning on 11 June, this time a very professional gentlemen did the procedure. I think his name was Bernie? It’s usually a younger lady and sometimes I don’t feel comfortable with her. Let me tell you he is very professional and if you have been avoiding an hygienist because you feel uncomfortable please see him. My husband is also a hygienist and when I got home I told him that I never felt this satisfied with my deep cleaning.

First, understand that we have not been to an El Paso Dentist for many years. We have been going to the Dentist in Juarez because the cost here is so high. We were very impressed with the setup at Bliss, but personally, I am troubled by the protocols followed by them. Instead of asking me why I am there, it is assumed that I want a full work up and complete diagnosis. All I wanted was to get a filling replaced. I understood that the poor insurance we have does cover cleaning, but surprised/shocked/disappointed/angered to learn that what I always thought of as a dental cleaning is no longer. Now, I am told, we need a "Deep" cleaning, and naturally, that is not fully covered under our insurance! They have to request authorization for this and then we have to pay $314.00, plus another $20.00 for a bottle of something for this deep cleaning. There's another $64.50 for "periodontal maintenance Over annual max," whatever that means. My filling is covered by the insurance, but they tell me that I also have a cavity under an existing crown, and that will cost me another $370.50, after the insurance pays its part. So, bottom line, for me, is that American Dentists still take too much for granted, and charge way to much for services I don't even ask for. They did not mention any disease, so it is my understanding that this deep clean is not necessarily medically required.
Follow up: I was given an appointment to get my filling done on 12/18 @ 2:00PM, on that first visit. When I talked to the office over the phone the day before to confirm that appointment I informed the young lady that we did not want the deep cleaning, but would take the regular cleaning that our insurance does cover. Then, on Thursday, when I showed up for my 2 o'clock appointment, I was told that that was for the deep cleaning, and I had my filling appointment to follow, at 3. I returned at 3, only to be left sitting in the waiting room for nearly half an hour. When I questioned the delay, I was given responses about they are short staffed, and the dentist was doing a procedure, and so on. I questioned why they had not told me that up front, and I got more (imho) deflection, double talk, and lame excuses. Ultimately, I left when they could not tell me when my filling would be taken care of, and I have reported this practice to my insurance. They, did, incidentally, already bill for the deep cleaning for my wife even though she has not received it.
