When I moved back to West Virginia from California I needed a dentist and a friend recommended Dental Associates. They are absolutely the best dentists. I don't live close to Charleston anymore but will make the drive to them for my dental appointments because they're that good.

My husband has noticed a bacteria-smell in the back of one side of his mouth for months now, despite flossing and brushing. Skaff and Paterno told him that this was due to an impacted wisdom tooth, that it was too close to the nerve, that he was a "ticking time bomb for an infection", and that they couldn’t do anything for him. Three days ago he developed a real infection, and I could see a pus pocket in the back of his mouth. He went to MedExpress and got an antibiotic. I was not satisfied that there was nothing to be done for this problem, and so my husband went this morning to a different dentist for a second opinion. This new dentist did a CT scan, told him he needs to have the impacted wisdom tooth removed ASAP, the tooth in front of it’s previous root canal revised, and the two teeth in front of that have new fillings installed as his previous ones have worn out. The total for all of this is $5,000. How is it possible that Skaff and Paterno missed so much of this, when he has gone faithfully to every 6 month maintenance cleaning and check-up for the last 3 years since we moved to Charleston? The office staff is very nice at this office, but I sincerely doubt the ability of Dr. Skaff to appropriately evaluate his patients.
