High Sierra Dental Care - Dr. Mireya Ortega, DDS

Dr. Ortega is fantastic. Best extraction ever! She pulled two wisdom teeth I'd never had out that had gotten cavities. I've had four other teeth pulled. Two by another dentist and two by an oral surgeon, so I was expecting a similar experience. But I was astounded by how well and quickly and nearly painlessly the extractions went. I thought she was just getting started and we were done. The pain was so minimal that I spent two days wondering if the numbing agent had worn off completely. There was no bruising and hardly any puffiness.

What I appreciate most, though, is that I have complex health problems that needed some accommodations and Dr. Ortega was totally amazing about that. Not many healthcare practitioners are willing to change up how they do things for my poorly understood condition, so I am extremely grateful.

I also go for cleanings and check-ups and she's the best dentist I've ever had. Both at knowing complicated and cutting-edge dental stuff and figuring out how to meet her patients' needs. Also, the office staff is delightful.

Cleaning and even Cavity work has been very smooth with it being Pain free. Clean environment and the most hospitable dentist I have ever had. Was nervous but she made sure I was comfortable !!

I have been going to dentists for many years now, and Dr. Ortega is hands down the best dentist I have had the pleasure to have gone to. I have nothing but respect and gratitude for everything she has done for me. Her professionalism and knowledge can only be matched by her calming and gentle procedures. She is a wonderful dentist.

My family and I have been going to Dr. Ortega for 7 years now. She is very capable, and personable. She takes great care of our teeth. She is very reasonably priced too.

The office is always very clean and tidy.

I have been a patient of Dr Ortega at High Sierra Dental for almost 20 years now. She and her staff always take the best care of me. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for the “best of the best dentist in Lake Tahoe.”

Dr. Ortega is a caring, fantastic dentist and great with children! My 2 year old was having a lot of resistance and fear around brushing his teeth. I spoke to Dr. Ortega about it, and the next day she called me and invited us to have an appointment with Munch, her service dog. She wondered if my son would enjoy brushing Munch’s teeth! He did just that, and Dr. Ortega took time to talk with Gracen about brushing his teeth too. My son really had fun brushing Munch’s teeth, and after that he had much less trouble brushing his teeth at home.

The only reason this place gets ONE star is because of how nice Dr. Ortegas assistant was, other than that I give this dentist a ZERO. Dr. Ortega is not compassionate and nor does she have a caring nature. If you have children or are a person who suffers from anxiety I RECCOMEND YOU DO NOT GO HERE. I had came in to get a procedure done, I was having a slight panic attack and had tears in my eyes. All she had to say was "pull it together, we need your nose clear for the gas." I kept apologizing for my anxiety (which a person should NEVER have to be sorry for) and she did not acknowledge. She barley numbed me and also did not give my mouth enough time to get numb. As she tried to continue with the procedure, at the same time I was crying I said not to continue and she then became very frustrated with me and said "you know what, I can't do this I'm going to have yo refer you to someone else." In an angry tone. I have never felt so belittled or put down by a person of the medical field before, she is not the dentist to go to for a happy experience. VERY RUDE. I could not believe it.

Poor service. They advertise that they take Douglas County School District Dental. I spent many hours working with them on getting the county to pay for a simple exam and cleaning. Called many times to the School District, and the insurer. I have never had such a hassle getting a payment to any provider. They sent an address from over 15 years ago first, which was there fault, even though I had given them all of my new information. Then they gave the insurer my SS # versus my wife's. She is the insured, so again their fault. Then I receive my xrays and a letter stating that they were dropping me as a patient. Say what! DO NOT USE THIS PROVIDER,they simply do not have any idea of how to manage their insurance with the Douglas County School District, one of the largest providers in the area. If you want to waste more time than you ever have on trying to get them to be paid, as they seem to have no idea what they are doing, then this is your place. Otherwise I would stay away.
