John R. Licking DDS Inc.

For many years, my cleanings were done both at
Licking’s ofc, & later the same year, at Foothill College
Dental Clinic. Licking’s office always gladly scheduled
my next appointment.

Last time at Lickings ofc, I was greeted by a polite, new
hygienist. Soon after starting, her metal tools pressed
painfully against my gums. I raised my hand & gently
noted the pain. She nodded, & re-started her cleaning.

After raising my hand for the 3d time (within 14 min.),
I got out of the chair. I was not threatening or hostile,
nor did I raise my voice. I merely said,“We’re finished."
"Are you going to wait to meet with the dentist?""No" I
replied. I calmly told the receptionist why I was leaving.

I don't believe Licking’s hygienist was intentionally
hurtful, but she lacked skills in listening, confirming the
patient's concerns, & then adjusting her technique. In
my dentist-visiting career, including w/the excellent
Foothill students, I've never stopped a hygienist more
than once, & I’ve never left because of pain-infliction.

Maybe Licking thought I made appts with hygienists so
I could feloniously bend their metal tools w/my gums.
In all cases, this hygienist's training(?) was quite poor.
Which, of course, is Licking's absolute right as owner.

Painful as Licking’s hygienist was, I WAS MORE
PAINED BY LICKING'S INABILITY to promptly &
competently respond as a business-owner to customer
concerns about a sloppy & painful cleaning-attempt.

Licking didn’t call during our after-cleaning scheduled-
time. Nor did he call later that day. Tho I prefer talking,
I then sent an email. I didn’t blame his hygienist. I just
noted my experience so he could improve his business.

Receiving no reply for 2 days, I called his office & was
told he sent a letter. When I got the letter, it seemed he
had taken dictation while sitting on his paralegal’s lap:
the letter, full of platitudes, ignored the sloppy work.

Two weeks after the 'cleaning' fiasco, Licking called.
I didn't know why he called, & after a few minutes, it
was clear Licking didn't know why either. I asked that
my dental records be sent to me;then I wished him well.

Receptionist Annie is kind. One of her jobs is to use the
paralegal’s scripts to "respond" to Yelp complaints.
Which is why “responses” are full of platitudes, seldom
directly addressing actual concerns. NOT Annie’s fault!

Monica did a great job. She was very thorough and gentle. I recommend all of Dr. Lickings hygienist.

I visited Dr. Licking's dental office for a consultation and saw Dr. Debra Cheung. She took an x-ray and explained my options, which included over-the-counter treatments. Her gentle manner and thorough explanation of what to look out for put me at ease. The office is pleasantly soothing, from the waiting room area to the service provided.

Definitely five star.

DR John R. Licking DDS is the best cosmetic and family dentist in Sunnyvale CA. Wonderful doctor very Professional and courteous staff very friendly, helpful, caring and gentle. They have 24 hour dental clinic service. I had used the service two to three time and they make me feel so good.

I wanted to do something about a tooth I’ve been missing for a long time but because of my dislike of dentist offices I keep putting it off. Based on a referral from a friend I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Licking. From the first contact making the appointment, throughout the consultation and procedure Dr. Licking and his staff made me feel comfortable and welcome. I plan to schedule my next preventive maintenance appointment soon.

I am very happy to say that i found a good Dentist.. Dr. John R. licking it’s an excellent dentist he is very patient and has a really light hand.. and all the staff there are super nice always smiling and welcoming 👍🏻👍🏻

I really like this Dentist. He is the only one I have ever seen that didn't try to sell me on a bunch or work I didn't need. The one thing I did have to have done was a crown and that was to fix a tooth that a different dentist, no longer in business, destroyed. He had the crown replaced all in one day with hardly any pain. He has his own machine that makes crowns and even took me back so I could watch it be made. I highly recommend coming to this dentist if you can.

Dr. Licking and his staff are extremely professional, compassionate, and thorough. They pay attention to detail and make you very comfortable in every aspect of your visit.
