Rockhouse Dentistry

I love this place! They were all so friendly and kind, it really felt like a family! Melinda who did my teeth cleaning was so amazing. She was so sweet and taught me a lot about taking care of my teeth! Highly recommend!

I hadn't gone to the dentist for about 5 years. But, I've always been diligent about brushing and flossing my teeth. (Brushing twice a day, and flossing once a day.) I also hadn't had any pain from my teeth during that time. My brother-in-law had been visiting another dentist and that motivated me to go see one. I choose Rockhouse Dentistry because they offered a free consultation and X-ray. (Which was very kind of them.) The staff were kind, and the dentist was kind as well. After the x-rays and examination I was informed that I had 8 cavities. They offered to fix all of those cavities for $1,719. Rockhouse Dentistry also offered a 10% discount because I would be paying out of pocket. That would of reduced my overall cost to $1,547. After getting that news, I didn't feel comfortable with what was told to me. (Partly because my pocketbook would greatly suffer. And as a college student at BYUI, that is almost a semester of full time school!) So, I went to another dentist office (“Drs. Toenjes, Brizzee and Orme - Cosmetic and Family Dentistry” in St. Anthony) to get a second opinion.

After getting x-rays from Dr. Brizzee, he informed me that I only had 1 cavity and the other “7 cavities” were just light staining on my teeth. He mentioned that the actual state of my teeth were quite healthy. He then encouraged me to get a checkup once a year to make sure that they don’t develop into other cavities. (He followed up that they may not need work for another 5 or so years. It just depends on how they develop.) As for the cost of filling the 1 cavity. I was only charged $114. Which was reduced by 5% because I paid on the day of the procedure. Which brought the total cost down to $108. Dr. Brizzee also didn’t charge me for the x-ray that was taken, and he filled another light cavity on that same tooth for FREE. So, the price disparity for a two-surfaced cavity between the two dentist offices is the $108 that I paid compared to the $232 that Rockhouse was going to charge me. (Please look at the attached documents for citation.) Now, note that Rockhouse was charging me for Resin-based fillings while I did get amalgam fillings at Dr. Brizzee. (Amalgam fillings are usually cheaper than resin-based.) But, even with that difference the resin-based fillings at Dr. Brizzee was no where near the price of Rockhouse. (I believe they were around $120, compared to the $184 offered at Rockhouse.) Even more concerning, Rockhouse didn’t consult nor educate me about what fillings would be best for my teeth. They just initially offered me the resin-based filling, and said nothing more. As for Dr. Brizzee, he elaborated on the different kinds of fillings that could be used and gave suggestions. (He recommended the cheaper, yet stronger, amalgam fillings because the cavity was on a molar.)

After those two experiences, I was astounded at the money-based philosophy that Rockhouse Dentistry works off of. It was clear that the professional skill at Rockhouse is quite novice and undeveloped. To top it all off, Dr. Brizee (the good dentist) informed me that he gets people from Rexburg all of the time who say their previous dentist identified 8-9 cavities, when in reality they only have 1 (maybe 2) cavities. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rockhouse Dentistry has contributed to that number of people. If you have the insurance to cover the cost of inexperienced dentistry, then Rockhouse is a fine choice. However, if you want professional service and dentists who actually care about you, I would not go to Rockhouse. While, I may be sounding brutal, it’s hard to compare novice work charging $1,547 and professional work charging $108. (I would recommend “Drs. Toenjes, Brizzee and Orme - Cosmetic and Family Dentistry” in St. Anthony because of the incredibly rational, and positive experience I had with them.)

I love Rock House Dentistry. My entire family have been patients there for 10 years. They have great service and friendly employees. Their offices are clean and high tech. They always seem to have the latest and greatest equipment and services.

I was about one year overdue for a routine checkup and Rockhouse got me in quickly and on my schedule. They were incredibly thorough and efficient. I was treated by Dr. Sweeten and he was awesome! He checked many things that no other dentist has ever done for me, including the overall health and function of my jaw, my wisdom teeth that never needed to be removed, and more! Both Dr. Sweeten & Dr. Allen are awesome! They truly care about every single person that walks through their doors and they do everything they can to make sure they're taken care of. Great doctors, great staff, and great atmosphere!

Early this spring, I tripped and fell, hitting my face and mouth on a cement sidewalk. With a sliced lip and a broken tooth, I hobbled in to Rockhouse Dentistry. Dr. Allen and his staff were wonderful! It was my first visit there. A friend had told me that Dr. Allen does his own cosmetic dentistry which was why I chose him. I had my first root canal (not bad at all!) and my lip was stitched up nicely. My second visit a week later, Dr. Allen removed the stitches and then created my new tooth. He did it with me so I had total say in how I wanted the tooth to look and the color. That's service!! No one can tell that I have a tooth implant - it's that perfect! Thank you to Dr. Allen and his staff!

The whole staff at Rockhouse has been beyond words. Dr Thueson is an incredibly gifted dentist he truly cares for his patients actually calling them after to make sure they are doing ok. I highly recommend this office for any dental needs. They gave me back my confidence to smile again.

Easily one of... Wait. THE ONLY amazing dental experience I've ever had. If I could give more stars I would. I suffer with severe anxiety when it comes to the dentist. Amber was so understanding and helpful and did her best to keep me distracted. She also did an amazing job at explaining the procedure so there wasn't any "surprise" noises. Dr. Allen was also incredibly understanding, asking multiple times how I was doing as well. He even called later that evening to see how I was. What dentist does that!? Dr. Allen thank you for being so awesome!!
Also -- I would 100% recommend laser treatment for fillings!!! Pain free, and left the dentist with no numbness!

I could not be more pleased with my experience with Rockhouse Dentistry and Dr. Allen. My 3-year-old came in for her first exam and had 6 cavities! We've never had cavities in my older kids, so this was new territory for us, and I was a little nervous, but the hygienist told me that Dr. Allen was really great with little kids and very gentle. We came back in this morning to get them fixed, and it could not have gone any better. He was able to fix all six cavities and my daughter did great. He was very gentle and they look perfect. Some of them were on the front and you can't see the fillings at all. I'm so pleased! Thank you!

I always struggle with dentists because I have had some super bad experience with dentists. I have moved up here and have struggling at getting myself to go into a dentist. I was HIGHLY recommended Rockhouse Dentistry. I am SO glad I went. I had five cavities (yikes!) and they were able to get me in as soon as possible, fix them all up in one sitting, make it as soothing as possible! It was nice how careful and caring they were and they also gave me breaks. Not only that, but when I went into a cleaning earlier in the month the front desk is always super helpful and nice and the staff is always amazing! Thank you!

The staff at Rockhouse Dentistry are very friendly and kind and the environment is family friendly. My children love the waiting area and the video games and shows they can watch during visits help them feel more at ease during checkups and fillings. I did not feel any pain after cleanings, unlike visits with my previous hygienist in another office. They were overly generous in waiving an X-ray fee not covered by my insurance when I realized after the fact that there was a once every 3 year limit. I was surprised when the dentists made follow up calls to check on how my children were doing after treatment. I feel like they truly care about their patients and go over the top to provide great service!
