Very disappointing experience taking my 4-year old daughter here for what was supposed to be her first dental cleaning. Oxford Lakes' website says they are "proud to offer dental services to children." Well, our visit here this week does not match that description.
My daughter was very nervous for her first visit. Upon arrival, we did not receive any sort of "warming up" or acquainting of my child with the dentist office or tools. I assumed the hygienist might show her some pictures or a model mouth with teeth, show her the tools, explain the purpose of the visit and what we will do, pick out fun sunglasses (which were not offered by the way), etc. Instead, the hygienist jumped straight into the cleaning. As soon as the hygienist began lowering the seat, my daughter began to whimper and cry. The hygienist quickly stopped and said we would not continue with the cleaning, and instead call this a "happy visit" and only count her teeth.
I want to clarify that the hygienist was very friendly and kind, but I have to say I was surprised by the lack of expected introductory interactions one might expect a child to receive on a first visit.
Then the actual dentist was called over due to the fact my daughter has a wiggly tooth. While the hygienist was at least friendly, the dentist was not friendly nor warm or welcoming to my daughter. She seemed rushed and said they don't deal with "behavioral issues" with children, and said that my daughter would need to see a pediatric dentist with nitrous oxide instead. The referral they gave me was for an office that doesn't even accept our insurance.
I completely understand that in some cases, overly nervous children may need special care with a pediatric dentist. However, it seems like Oxford Lakes did not even TRY to create a warm, welcoming environment for a child's first time visit that might have opened my daughter up to feeling more comfortable proceeding with the cleaning. Now I feel my kid is even MORE nervous for the next time we have to try a visit elsewhere.
Honestly, it just seemed like they couldn't be bothered to spend a little extra time welcoming a new patient and helping her get comfortable. At the very least if we could not proceed with the cleaning, I would have hoped they could've gone over some educational material to teach about dental hygiene or again maybe look at the tools. Instead we were rushed out like a burden. All in all, the visit lasted approximately 5 minutes.
Oh and we waited months for this very disappointing visit. Will never visit this practice again nor recommend it others. They have lost a potential life-long customer.

This is a really good dentistry. The staff are just so nice. Easy to talk to everyone and talk to your hygienist the whole time and it’s a very enjoyable experience for something most people dread

Oxford Lake Dental Care is amazing! I have been going to see Dr. Dan and his wonderful hygienists for over 20 years. They provide such diligent care, they are quick and efficient when it comes to scheduling you an appointment and/or getting you called back. They provide a professional yet gentile touch to a service where most people cringe. I've been so impressed with them due to their professionalism and family atmosphere, and their willingness to donate to help others in need, that now that I've moved away over 9 years ago, I'm still willing to drive 3 hours to receive the best dental care I know can be provided to me!

I have been a patient here for 20 years now. Since I was 5 years old. This dentist office is the best! They always keep me well informed and take really good care of me. My hygienist Natalie is my favorite yet, as I have seen people come and go over the years. I look forward to coming to the dentist since I was young because the kindness of their staff. They’ve always had willingness to help me with anything I need for my teeth, along with making my visits around my busy schedule. Dr. Dan & Dr. Donna are great dentists, they are very knowledgeable- they really care about your teeth. Last but not least, the front receptionist Debbie is the kindest and most thoughtful, she’s the best at managing your visits and always greets you with a smile. I love this dentist and I won’t go anywhere else.

Just had my first cleaning here and it had been awhile since I have gone to a dentist for a cleaning. The staff was amazing, from the receptionist Debbie, to the X-ray tech Amanda, and to my hygienist Danielle. I was so worried they wouldn’t be able to get my problem spots but they were quick and efficient and my teeth look better than ever! Also major props to the staff for helping me with my busy-body one-year old, they didn’t have to help but it was so sweet to see such a kind and caring staff. I think I have found my new dentist office!

The staff was super welcoming and my hygienist Natalie was super friendly. They explained everything they were doing and why. They showed me directly on the xrays what they were talking about. I have a baby tooth still that does not have an adult tooth, but has not fallen out. They showed me what they were concerned about, who they wanted me to see to take a better look at the best options and when. They were really informative and put no pressure on me.

I was very happy with my first visit. They were friendly, have the latest technology, were prompt and answered all my questions. The hygienist and dentist we're very personable. A genuinely nice hometown dentist. I will go back and also send my family.

I went here for a few cleanings and some fillings. I was disappointed with the service each time I went there. The staff made me feel very uncomfortable when I asked for the nitrogen gas before getting fillings and ended up having a horrible experience. There is also a younger assistant there that seems very inexperienced and I did not feel comfortable at all having them perform work on my teeth. The building is very nice and the staff seem nice, but this dentist was not very gentle and not as nice as my old dentist. I would not recommend this dentist.
