High Sierra Dental Care - Dr. Mireya Ortega, DDS

Dr. Ortega has wonderful practices for dental care. I feel in good hands as her bedside manner feels reassuring and I really enjoy the use of specific tools that make my visit more relaxing and comfortable. I feel like she really is looking out for my health and advocates for my care.

Dr. Ortega is always very thorough. I appreciate that she takes time to examine my teeth and explain and show me what is going on. I have recommended others to her.

Dr Ortega has been awesome in fixing all that I allowed to deteriorate to a dental mess. Her kindness and lack of recrimination of my mess of a mouth made me feel comfortable and not ashamed. Over a number of visits and many months she patiently made my mouth and smile better than I could have hoped. I speak with people now without a hand over my mouth and even allow pictures of me to be taken. I actually feel she gave me my life back!

10/10 would recommend my friends and family to see Dr. Ortega. Her dental office is peaceful, clean and organized. Dr. Ortega is very thoughtful, thorough and gentle with her patients.

Cleaning and even Cavity work has been very smooth with it being Pain free. Clean environment and the most hospitable dentist I have ever had. Was nervous but she made sure I was comfortable !!

I LOVE her office and all of the little details that she has to make it feel like home. Her knowledge is exceptional and I have no doubt her treatment plan will be exactly what is needed. Everything was clean and she goes to GREAT lengths to make sure her office is COVID clean. She explained it to me, and it’s truly amazing and I’ve seen NOTHING like in any other dental office.

Would have been nice going in to have a tooth extracted that she doesn’t pull teeth. $190 wasted!

I'll start off saying that I absolutely loath going to the dentist office. It had been almost 10 years since I went but I'm so glad I did. Her assistant is extremely nice and has their system down for following the covid safety protocols. Dr. Ortega is the most professional and efficient dentist I have ever been to. I went in, she laid out what I needed to have done and we made all the appointments. When I got 2 fillings done I was anxious and panicking. Everything was done before I was aware that we had started. She is the best at what she does, she makes it as comfortable and painless as possible and I just really like the overall experience. Don't look any further. Just choose her. Worked well with my insurance. As much as I hate the dentist, this is where I will go from now on. Thanks Dr !!!

I have been a patient of Dr Ortega at High Sierra Dental for almost 20 years now. She and her staff always take the best care of me. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for the “best of the best dentist in Lake Tahoe.”

Dr.Ortega is nothing short of awesome! We have been going to her for our familys dental needs for 7 years. She is capable, and friendly. Our oldest son LOVES coming to her office (and he's getting ortho work done!) She is even fantastic with our youngest son who is petrified of the dentist. Oh, and when I cracked my tooth she got me in within 24 hours! It looks like nothing ever happened, she did such a great job. If you are considering a new dentist check her out!

My family and I have been going to Dr. Ortega for 7 years now. She is very capable, and personable. She takes great care of our teeth. She is very reasonably priced too. The office is always very clean and tidy.

I absolutely loath going to the dentist, but Dr. Ortega and her staff made it a very comfortable experience for me for the first time ever. She is incredibly thorough - my first appointment was an exam and xrays only, we didn't even get to my cleaning. A little unfortunate, but I think it shows how much pride and care she takes in her work. When I came in for my cleaning, I said that I had sensitive teeth/gums so she gave me a topical novocaine to numb my gums, and my mouth didn't hurt at all during or after the appointment even though she had to get in there pretty aggressively to get all the tartar build up. I had to go back a week later for a filling and again had a great experience (as great as a filling can be). Dr. Ortega was very communicative about what she was doing and stopped to let me take a break when I said I was uncomfortable. She also sees a few of my co-workers, who have told me that she does quite a lot of pro-bono work. I wish I wasn't moving away, because a dentist like Dr. Ortega would make me actually want to go in regularly for cleanings. Highly recommend!

Dr. Ortega made me feel relaxed and comfortable my very first visit. I've had several dentists in my lifetime and she is by far the best. Very caring. She even provided me with her home number in case I needed to get in touch with her after I had an extraction on a Friday afternoon. She's excellent.

The only reason this place gets ONE star is because of how nice Dr. Ortegas assistant was, other than that I give this dentist a ZERO. Dr. Ortega is not compassionate and nor does she have a caring nature. If you have children or are a person who suffers from anxiety I RECCOMEND YOU DO NOT GO HERE. I had came in to get a procedure done, I was having a slight panic attack and had tears in my eyes. All she had to say was "pull it together, we need your nose clear for the gas." I kept apologizing for my anxiety (which a person should NEVER have to be sorry for) and she did not acknowledge. She barley numbed me and also did not give my mouth enough time to get numb. As she tried to continue with the procedure, at the same time I was crying I said not to continue and she then became very frustrated with me and said "you know what, I can't do this I'm going to have yo refer you to someone else." In an angry tone. I have never felt so belittled or put down by a person of the medical field before, she is not the dentist to go to for a happy experience. VERY RUDE. I could not believe it.

My recent checkup and cleaning was amazing. Dr. Ortega always takes great care of my family. Her office has taught us how to properly care for our teeth and keep great smiles. Thank you so much Dr. Ortega for all your help.

Poor service. They advertise that they take Douglas County School District Dental. I spent many hours working with them on getting the county to pay for a simple exam and cleaning. Called many times to the School District, and the insurer. I have never had such a hassle getting a payment to any provider. They sent an address from over 15 years ago first, which was there fault, even though I had given them all of my new information. Then they gave the insurer my SS # versus my wife's. She is the insured, so again their fault. Then I receive my xrays and a letter stating that they were dropping me as a patient. Say what! DO NOT USE THIS PROVIDER,they simply do not have any idea of how to manage their insurance with the Douglas County School District, one of the largest providers in the area. If you want to waste more time than you ever have on trying to get them to be paid, as they seem to have no idea what they are doing, then this is your place. Otherwise I would stay away.

My treatment with Dr. Ortega is ongoing and will be extensive in my case. I am an extremely fearful patient and I have so many emotions attached to my poor dental health that I have an exceptionally hard time seeking the attention and help of dentists. I'm very happy that my searching brought me to Dr Ortega's office. Twice I have needed to be seen as soon as possible and both times was given an appointment either the same day or next. Dr. Ortega was kind and listened with concern as I explained my fears and history. She was sensitive but still very clear in her explanations and advice moving forward. I didn't feel hurried or shamed during our initial visit and decided to return to her for the partial tooth extractions needing attention. I had put it off for so long and thought it was going to be such a bigger deal than it was. Dr. Ortega explained everything beforehand and was so gentle with the initial Novocain, that it allowed me to relax and let the process happen. It was way easier than I anticipated and over quickly. I also healed quickly and with no pain afterwards. This was the first positive dentist visit I can remember having and I am so grateful for that.
