I would give negative stars if it were allowed. I was treated absolutely horrible and openly shamed in the middle of the office. I had lost a filling in my molar during covid and then never took the time to get it fixed. Absolutely my fault. There is no denying that. I let it go too long and the tooth began to flare up more and more frequently, eventually becoming infected and causing horrendous pain 24/7. I called Dodge City Smiles, and they were able to get me in quickly, within a few days I believe, while other dentists were booking weeks out. But now I know why they had openings. The room where multiple procedures are done at the same time is open all around. Lining the walls around an open central space there are ‘bays’ that contain dental equipment. I’m not sure how many off the top of my head, but at least 4 chairs all face the walls with the backs facing the center area. They are separated by curtains that give the illusion of privacy, but no actual privacy. I went in, had the x-rays I needed to have done and waited in their very awkward, open area where they perform their procedures. I was hoping just to have the molar removed because it had already been through one root canal and was completely infected. It didn’t make sense to me to attempt an expensive root canal that might fail and ultimately end in the removal of the molar anyhow. Especially when I couldn’t afford the expensive root canal. The dentist was very open to working on my tooth until I voiced my concerns about this. Then he began to backtrack, citing my wisdom tooth was in the way and he could not do the extraction. At this point, with the tooth pain being as unbearable as it was, I changed my mind and begged for the root canal. This is where the dentist shamed and publicly embarrassed me. He told me that he would no longer even do the root canal until I went Garden City and had ALL of my wisdom teeth removed. I asked him if I didn’t have the money for a root canal, what makes him think that I would have money for dental surgery and then to come back to him for a root canal? His reply was that well, I could simply finance the surgery. And what would I do for the pain and infection that needed immediate attention? I should have taken better care of my teeth. Which, fair. I get that, but we were kind of beyond hindsight at this point. Loudly telling patients who can’t afford expensive surgeries that they should have had the preventative medical care they couldn’t afford, refusing treatment that they personally disagree with but is medically sound, and humiliating patients in an open room is horrendous behavior. This dentist does not understand that not everyone has the luxury of scheduled and regular dental appointments, nor does he understand compassion or excruciating pain. I left my appointment crying in pain, humiliation, and frustration. I composed myself in the parking lot, called First Dental, and they immediately squeezed me into the last appointment of their day. I went there, told the dentist what was going on. He agreed that there was absolutely no conceivable reason to be treated the way I was and there was no medical backing to it either. He removed both the offending molar and the “problematic” wisdom tooth for a fair price of just under $400 that I paid in full that day. They even included sedation to ease my anxiety and stress from the day and pain. First Dental is the only dentist worth anything as far as I am concerned.

I cannot say enough good things about Dodge City Smiles. They are so gentle and kind with me and my kids. I have had anxiety about the dentist after having a traumatic experience as a child. Dr. Morse and my hygienist Danielle make me feel so relaxed and comfortable. They explain everything and they are straightforward about issues. I feel with complete confidence they have my best interest at heart and have made my anxiety about the dentist almost diminish completely.
