I've had about 5 appointments with Stony Brook Dental Care regarding a frenectomy surgery to help remove my tongue tie, and the accompanying aftercare. I paid a very fair price upon my first frenectomy, and all of the follow up appointments were included in that initial cost (I've been back at least 3 times, one of which they actually removed more of the tie with the laser again, no extra cost). All of the staff are very kind and enthusiastic, taking the effort to remember me and make me feel welcome. The office itself is very nice and clean. They worked with my insurance and were very clear on pricing and what I can expect, which was also very reasonable for the amount of time and work spent on my procedures. The doctor is very knowledgeable, and clearly explained my issues and what to expect with all of this. They work with me to find appointment dates/times that work with my schedule. I have absolutely no complaints, I'm always looking forward to my next dental appointment!

I don’t even want to give 1 star. They scammed me out of money. First they did a filling on my back molar 2 weeks later I’m told I need a root canal because it was still hurting. So I get a root canal and with that you have to get a crown. Get all that done the whole time the crown was in my mouth it felt like it was too bulky my gum was always sore. But I never went back because I had been so unhappy with the work they had done on my mouth and my husbands. A year and half later I’m chewing and my crown comes off. The buildup and everything. Of course it’s a Friday and they are closed so I go to another dentist because it’s bothering me. Just for this dentist to tell me my tooth isn’t able to be saved. There’s still decay and once he would go to get that out my tooth would just break because it was already so far down. I take care of my teeth and the other dentist said after a year and half he highly would doubt decay would be back with the way I take care of my teeth. I ended up having to get the tooth removed. After spending all that money trying to save it I still lost my tooth. Thank god it’s in the back of my mouth and not noticeable. I would not recommend anyone to go here. I had my front tooth fixed a small chip within 6 months it came off. They fixed my husbands front tooth where half of it was broke off and it doesn’t even look like a tooth. The dentist is nice but as far as anything else don’t go here!!!

Beware! They do unnecessary procedures such as oral cancer screening without asking during routine cleanings. Insurance only covers cleaning and X-rays so they expect you to pay the $73 out of pocket. Total scam.

I’ve been going to Stony brook dental for a few years and have been treated like family every time I come, I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Brought my 4 month old daughter to Dr Barnett to have her oral ties revised. Not only did he assess her mouth for visible issues. But I answered a questionnaire on our breastfeeding experience. We had 1 week post procedure & 1 month post procedure follow ups to ensure she was healing correctly. Him & the staff were excellent with her! Not an easy procedure to have her go through. But they were great!

Dr. Barnett released 5 ties (tongue, upper and lower lips and top buccals) in my son’s mouth when he was 3 months old. It improved our ability to nurse and decreased his gas and discomfort. He is now a much more content baby. The procedure went smoothly, but the thing I appreciate most is the follow up care. Dr. Barnett and his staff take care to make sure you understand what to do to get the most out of the procedure. They instruct you on how to care for the released ties and schedule follow up appointments to check healing and progress. None of these things happened when we had my daughter’s tongue released with ENT. I highly recommend Stony Brook Dental Care!

If you have TMJ issues, seek treatment elsewhere. They will charge you out of pocket for TMJ appliances and if that does fix your problems then they will leave you hanging. Dr. Barnett is a snake oil salesman when it comes to TMJ treatment.

The staff is very friendly and it's a good dental facility for check-ups and cleanings. However, I would not use them for other dental work based on my experience. Like one of the previous reviewers mentioned; patient outcomes should be the top priority for anyone in the dentistry field. Update: I've spent thousands out of pocket, because of subpar dental work at this location. I understand that mistakes can happen, but it's inexcusable that I wasn't offered a viable resolution. It started with a replacement filling that led to an abscessed tooth. It was some of the worst pain that I've ever experienced. I ended up getting a root canal that was only partially covered by insurance. When I went to get the crown, it didn't fit properly. I told the dentist that it didn't feel right and they tried to adjust it, but it still didn't fit correctly. The crown eventually broke off and I had to get fitted for a new one. The new crown didn't hold either and there wasn't enough tooth structure left to place another crown correctly. The dentist told me that I would need an extraction and implant. Here's the kicker: Not only did this dentist not offer to cover any of this cost, they actually charged me for the extra visits in order to fix the problem they caused. So, I had to pay for a root canal, a crown that was never fitted properly, extra visits, a tooth extraction, and an implant. I'm just now able to afford the abutment and crown for the implant. I believe that the KY Board of Dentistry should hear about my experience as well.
