I had a horribly painful wisdom tooth this weekend, enough so that it kept me awake most of the night on Saturday and Sunday despite taking copious amounts of anti-inflammatories. I called South Hills first thing on Monday morning, 7:30 AM, to see what they had available. After explaining what was going on, the receptionist got me an appointment for later that morning. She did, however, explain that they often don't have the capability to pull wisdom teeth easily but that they should be able keep me comfortable until I can see the oral surgeon. Some relief was the only thing I need at the moment, so perfect. 5 stars so far.
I get to the office a little early as requested to fill out some paperwork. Staff is friendly, helpful, and efficient. 5 stars.
I see the doctor. He is friendly and after looking in my mouth and examining my x-rays determines that I have an infection around my lower left wisdom tooth. I am swollen and painful. He decides we should flush out the pocket with some antiseptic and then give me a referral to the oral surgeon. Great idea. The procedure was painful but necessary, and the doctor was careful not to prolong it while still being thorough. 5 stars.
This is the 1 star part. It's time to leave. They send me with some antiseptic to rinse my mouth and a referral form. No oral antibiotic. No pain medication. I had made it clear both on the phone and in person how much pain I was in. Part of that is my fault. I should not have left that office without those prescriptions, but I shouldn't have to explain that to my doctor.
I go back to work for the afternoon, and about an hour in I'm in excruciating pain radiating from my jaw up into my temple. People at work notice that the left side of my face is swollen. I go home, take some ibuprofen even though that hasn't helped much, and go to bed early.
Two hours later, I wake up with more excruciating pain on that whole side of my face. I get up to ice it and take more ibuprofen. I am miserable for the next 3 hours. In that time, I call South Hills to express my disappointment and give them an opportunity to fix their mistake. I state that I want a pain medication called into my pharmacy the next morning so I can pick it up during my lunch break and maybe be a functional human for part of the day.
I get a call part way through the morning saying they will not fill anything for me. They have referred me to the surgeon who will be taking care of my treatment for here on out.
I call the surgeon's office. Their next appointment slot is August 19th, 20 days away. They will not fill anything for me in the meantime because I am not an established client yet (duh). The receptionist there asks if I am hurting. I explain that I'm taking way too much ibuprofen and have still not slept really for 3 nights. She says there might be an infection. I say it was diagnosed the day before. She says if there is swelling, I should go to urgent care. My face looks lopsided at this point. I tell her so. She is confused as to why I didn't get a pain medication and an antibiotic at my appointment the day before. So am I.
The whole point of my appointment at South Hills was to keep me comfortable until I could see the oral surgeon. I paid almost $200 and they did not hold up their end of the deal. I gave them the opportunity to fix things and they ignored me. They are completely negligent. I do not recommend anybody come here for anything.

I have been going to this office for years and have never walked away thinking "I wish they would just...".
