Root Canal Complications Second Opinion Recommended

I was a patient of Angela about 4/5 years ago. Iโ€™m writing now because Iโ€™ve had many complications from the root canal I had gotten at her office. I was told I needed a root canal, and me always relying on the experts, I decided to go forward with the treatment. Post this first treatment, I was told I needed two other root canals. This time, a little wary I went to a root canal specialist in Columbus and he told me absolutely not to the root canals. 5 years later no problems not even cavities with the teeth she wanted to do root canals on but the one I decided to get done is constantly in pain. Iโ€™m going to the dentist to get it pulled and end the misery. Long story short, I would get a second opinion on all major or minor operations they recommend.

Poor Customer Service Unprofessional Behavior Overcharging

I went in for a routine check up and was told that I needed a root canal on one of my molars. I told the office that I would like a second opinion and asked the doctor to send me a copy of the x-ray. They said they would and scheduled the surgery a few weeks out so I wouldn't have to call back in. I never received the x-rays or even an email from the dentist. I did, however, receive a bill because of my "missed" appointment. They charge you about $200 if you miss an appointment that I didn't want to schedule until I got a second opinion. All this office cares about is making money and making any little issue a surgical one.

Great Service Highly Recommended

I can't say enough about this practice. They are just great! Comfort, accommodating, friendly and great at what they do. I have had a number of procedures performed by Dr Gum's office they have done a great job. I can say this is the best overall practice that I have experienced. Highly recommend!

Excellent dentist. Very clean, professional, comfortable and caring environment. They follow up if youโ€™re having issues and make really helpful recommendations. Highly recommend Dr. Gum and her team.

I just moved to Columbus this year, and actually work right next to Dr. Gum's practice. The staff is incredibly pleasant to talk with and really do make you feel as one of their own. The office itself is clean, and everyone is so courteous and professional. Always recommend them to friends.

My first visit to Dr. Gumm's office went fabulously! The staff was welcoming and on time- they got me into a chair almost immediately. I had a few x-rays done and the whole process was seamless. I really liked Dr. Gumm and needless to say, I was coming back.

For my next appointment, I had to call last minute and ask if they could shorten the appt. time because something had come up. The receptionist and my dental hygienist seemed to have no problem with my last minute change, and even offered to have me early for my polishing. When Dr. Gumm came in to start working on my filings, I didn't get the same vibe. She was completely different from my last visit and gave off this "all business" attitude. She came in with a terse hello, but I figured she felt inconvenienced about the last minute change. Ok, maybe valid. She and her assistant asked me nothing, umm did they know I was there? They immediately started working on my teeth without talking about the procedure first or describing what tooth they would be working on. A bit surprising... but whatever. Now, at this point its worth noting that, I had agreed to a 40 Minute time slot for my filling before coming into the office, so the need for a rushed procedure wasn't paramount. It wasn't until the drilling started that I became a bit upset. Absolutely NO WARNING! I have never had a dentist be so non-communicative with me during a procedure.

Now, I've heard wonderful things about Dr. Gumm, so I wouldn't read this review and make it a rule, but personally, I'm not sure I'll be back.

Get a second opinion. She told me I had 7 or 8 cavities (Iโ€™d never had a cavity before in my life).

I allowed them to work on half of them. After being charged well in excess of the estimate, I decided to visit another dentist to have the other cavities filled.

Iโ€™ve since been to two different dentists, none of whom have seen any cavities where supposedly 4 exist. Years later, still no evidence of these phantom cavities.

More than likely, I now have a mouth full of fillings that I didnโ€™t need. Stay away or at least get a second opinion if you get a fishy or overly aggressive diagnosis.

EDIT in response to business owner reply:
The owner asked why Iโ€™m now leaving a review after several years. Short answer? After my last cleaning at a dentist I trust, I asked again about the phantom cavities. They said โ€œnope, we donโ€™t see ANYTHING on your x-rays to even suggest you have problem areas to watch, let alone cavities that need filled.โ€

And quite frankly, every time that happens I get ticked off again about my crummy experience at Angela Gum so I left a review to hopefully help others that may get a questionable diagnosis.

When I raised concerns in her office years ago I was simply told โ€œwe stand by our diagnosis.โ€ So my advice to others is get a second opinion or just go elsewhere.

My appointment was to replace an old filling. Leading up to the visit I had to change my appt. once and that was simple to do. I arrived and was taken in right at my appt time. The procedure was very simple and pain free. It is one of the nicest and easiest dental offices for me to visit. They are also very good about reminding you of your upcoming appts.

I don't particularly enjoy going to the Dentist but I can certainly appreciate a job well done. My teeth look and feel clean. Also, cudos to Toni for going out of her way to help me schedule an appointment on short notice. That, plus a convenient location, made the trip easy.

Dr. Gum and her staff have always taken great care of me. I feel comfortable in their office, they're using technology to track my health over time, and they work hard to find the best solutions for my needs. I wouldn't think of going to anyone else.
