Hello All
I had the most wonderful dental experience at Bela Family Dentistry.
The office is clean all infection protocols were in effect. The staff is knowledgeable and kind. I highly recommend this office.

I have been a patient for many years and I always feel great after a dental appointment. Dr. Shelly and her staff are very trustworthy, thorough and attentive.

I’ve been going to this dentist office for nearly a decade and the experience had always been positive. They’ve taken Covid precautions seriously, which is appreciated.
However, today I met with the new dentist, Dr Boucher, and while nice, she was very salesy. The dental hygienist was kind and thorough, but tried to sell me their pre-filled teeth whitening strips. She was receptive when I didn’t engage more about them. When Dr Boucher came in, she also tried to sell me the teeth whitening strips (this was in response to me saying I drink a lot of coffee). She then proceeded to examine my teeth and told me that my previous fillings concerned her and she wanted to replace them, and give me a crown on one tooth. She explained that based on what she saw, this issue had been there “for quite some time,” and that this would be a preventative measure. This is the first time any dentist has mentioned this to me - including other dentists at this practice. I listened to her explanation and recommended (expensive) treatment plan, but took it with a grain of salt.
The real kicker for me was when I went to check out, I had a balance owing. Previously, cleanings were covered in full with insurance. When I asked about it, I was told that the practice was no longer in network with my insurance and that was likely the reason for the balance.
I was in disbelief by the lack of professionalism when it comes to transparency about insurance providers as a current patient. If there is a change, that information should be provided to patients upon check-in. The sales pitches, coupled with the lack of disclosure about the change of accepted insurance providers completely turned me off to this practice.
I will be finding a new dentist.

had an amazing dentist in Columbia, SC…it was so good that when I moved to Charleston I kept going to that dentist. It was a man and wife dentist team and staff that were amazing. It was like home and they had massaging chairs, heated blankets, TV to watch, etc. Loved going to the dentist. It was me time lol. Anyway a few years ago, they sold the office but were still working there. I received a bill in the mail for about $300. I called they said not to worry about it, that they were switching systems and it would fix itself. I knew I had insurance so I wasn’t worried about it. I received a few more of those letters over the years but ignored because of what they told me. I now have a creditor harassing me at work daily so I called the office. Everyone that I knew from the office was fired or quit so its all new people. I explained to them that I had insurance at the time and I didn’t understand what was happening. They said the billed an insurance company and it was denied. I explained that it was the wrong insurance company and they needed to bill the correct one. I was told I needed to speak to the creditor and that the office wouldn’t talk to me anymore. I knew this was trouble but went ahead since they call my work daily and the girl, who will not let me get a word in edgewise unless I scream, said she didn’t know or care what was really going on but that they needed the balance. I have reported them to the BBB and now I’m FBing it because this is absolutely absurd.

My first visit was "jacked" but let's be honest,...it's because my teeth/and gums were "jacked". The visit took a long time and my jaws were very achy afterwards,...(shameful side glance) bu-uuut I hadn't been to a dentist for like 6 years. Bad girl! Despite that they were still so nice and just really welcoming. So, now my second 6 month visit was...just..Amazing! Kanari was my hmm, is it Dental Assistant? Not sure but she was like the Google of Dentistry. She answered all my questions...even the weird ones like "Why do I gag when I brush my teeth?". She was very warm, non-judgemental, experienced, smart, and funny. She put me completely at ease. I'm embarrassed to say, but I work in the medical field and as hard as we think we work we are not getting it done when it comes to patient care...and education. Guys, it's not all about the money, it's about the patients. Sorry, didn't mean to rant, it's just I was so taken aback by my visit with Bela Family Dentristy because Kanari took the time and made me feel that it was all about me as a patient,... Oh, and I can't forget, the young women that checked me out was lovely,...no pressure to pay my full bill and very flexible with my many future scheduling appts. Totally Team Bela. They are the real deal.

The best I have ever been treated at a dental appointment. My old dentist was closed for COVID19 so I called and they got me in the very next day.
Staff was super nice, made sure I was comfortable, and was very straight forward about my treatment plan.

Wonderful atmosphere! Amy & Dr. Shellie were so nice and welcoming to me. I look forward too working with the entire team in the future.
