Dr. Powell is a very smart and kind woman. She is the first dentist I have ever been too that gives photo proof of all cavities and thoroughly explains it. I had the opportunity to see up close every single cavity and no it was not an xray she showed me. She seems to really care about the health of all her patients and I wish I could have stuck with her to do my dental work as she is really great. The front desk lady and assistants are super nice too.
Unfortunately Lorrie practices are suspect and shady in my opinion. She is a nice woman and I'm sure she is a decent lady on a personal level. There office called me on their own accord to confirm my insurance prior to my appointment. I also called back and asked them specifically if they will accept my insurance and of course they said yes. Yet when I get there I am told I will have to pay 100% total upfront in cash and my insurance will later reimburse me. This appointment cost $325 and my other appointment would have cost $2400 that they expected me to pay up front and just trust my insurance will ''reimburse'' me whenever. Lorrie gave no mention of when I will be reimbursed or why I am just now being told I have to pay upfront cost. I asked Lorrie if she knew beforehand I'd be expected to pay upfront cost and she claimed not to know and that she only just verified my insurance as soon as I was checking out, and so that's when she chose to inform me. Then I ask if she at least put a claim through so I could know how much my payment would be and she said no- that she would do it AFTER treatment and AFTER I already paid the $2000. I ask her why she did this and she said it's because it would take 4-6 weeks for the claim to process and that's too long so she figured I'd want to go through with treatment first. She said in her experience it's 4-6 weeks. If with all her expertise she knows that insurance will take longer than they claim to process than she should also know it can reasonably be assumed the patients want the claim filed before they are billed. Apparently her experience did not teach her customer service or maybe she neglected to learn it.
It is unfair to fault Lorrie alone though as I see this is a problem for this office. Another reviewer on yelp had a similar complaint where they say ''Sandy says it is because I am out of network. She says we will see what is covered by my insurance when the claim comes back. When I asked why she charged me before the claim went through she said she can do it whenever she wants. I will not be returning and neither should you.''
Dr. Powell should seriously consider having a talk with her team about thoroughly informing patients of there insurance and the shady practice of billing patients and not filing a claim. If she truly cares about her practice I think she should consider kindy addressing the issue with her team to avoid any further complaints or issues regarding this matter.
I let them know to transfer over my x rays to another dentist which was a clear sign to them that I was taking my business elsewhere and the person who answered which most likely was Lorrie didn't bother to ask why I decided to move elsewhere and instead just said ''I guess you want to cancel that appointment too''? and then hung up.
I've taken my business to another reputable dentist who's office staff ALWAYS explains insurance and doesn't conveniently ''fail to inform''
UPDATE: Going here was a waste of my time and money. Apparently my cavities are much larger and require crowns. Tiller never mentioned the severity or depth of these cavitys and was planning on doing fillings for all of them. I went to 2 other dentist and both believed I would definitely need a crown on at least one tooth. Also insurance did not cover full amount so I ended up paying about $200 out of pocket. The X-rays I paid for were Blurry and so that's a waste of $200 I sent. I had to get new ones the dentist couldn't see them. Avoid this place.

Let's face it - nobody really wants to go to the dentist. However, the ladies at Powell & Tiller make it a really pleasant experience. They always run on time, have the most friendly demeanor, and make every effort to make their patients comfortable. And most importantly, they have provided great dental care for myself, my husband, and our three children for the last 10 years.

Powell & Tiller is a good, friendly environment. They treat you very well, and let you know what's up and how to take care of that mouth of yours. They might even let you have a fun conversation with them while working on your teeth.

My family has been going to Powell &Tiller for at least ten years and have been consistently pleased! When Covid started, we paused our services out of caution. However, we resumed services a couple weeks ago and one by one each member of my family has gone in for a cleaning. I can not tell you how IMPRESSED I have been with their adherence to Covid protocol. I have visited their office three times in the past two weeks and everyone has been masked correctly! No slipping masks or unmasked staff at all! Also, the hygienist and doctor that work with you are also wearing shields. I can not express how safe I have felt, which is why I scheduled the rest of my family. If you are concerned about Covid and safety protocols, this office does it best! They far outshine the rest. I only wish some of my other providers were as vigilant with protocol and wore masks correctly.

Going to the dentist isn't normally a pleasant experience but it is always a great experience at Powell and Tiller. The staff is caring and very focused on preventative and proactive dental care using the latest technology.

My family has been patients with this practice for the past 19 years and we could not ask for a more professional and more kind group of people. I had not seen a dentist for many years prior to starting with Dr. Tiller and Dr. Powell, due to a traumatic experience with my old dentist. Since starting with this practice, I make sure I go every six months. From general teeth cleaning (love, love, love Kelly!) to getting crowns, a person cannot go wrong with this group of amazing women!

We have been seeing Dr Tiller for many years (10+ at least) and she has always been kind, gentle and compassionate. She and all of her staff make sure we are comfortable and distracted, if necessary. About to take our kiddo for a first visit. Wonderful place and would highly recommend!

I’m proud to say that not only did I get my very first check up here 20 years ago but my little girl just had her first check up as well. I can’t say enough awesome things about how patient and caring they were. They took the time to show my daughter what they were doing and made her feel totally comfortable. Looking forward to my sons first check up!
