Veronica Tovar, D.D.S., S.C.

I believe Dr. Tovar is the most technically skilled, honest, and open dentist I've ever had treat me. I've been going to Dr. Tovar since 2009 for regular cleanings and checkups, occasional fillings, and a root canal and crown. The cleanings are the most thorough cleanings I've ever received. Yes, they probably take longer than the typical cleaning you've received elsewhere, but they are pleasant and you definitely get your money's worth. I recently needed emergency treatment due to a broken tooth, and Dr. Tovar was able to promptly work me into her schedule. After 45 minutes in the chair, I was good as new.

My wife and I switched insurance providers and needed to find a new dentist. Dr. Tovar seemed to have good reviews so we decided to try her office. Both my wife and I had appointments with separate hygienist simultaneously. I understand new patient appointments will naturally take a bit longer than existing patients, but almost 3 hours is excessive. They never informed us how long these appointments would go, and they also were aware of our new born child being watched over while we were there, they knew we didn’t have time to spare yet didn’t try to be quick and efficient.

The cleanings we received were the most painful teeth cleanings we had ever had.

The worst part of the whole experience was we left there without any explanation from the doctor of what work we would need done on our teeth. After calling back the next day to clarify our needs, we were informed that collectively we have 25 cavities and a crown needed! How do a pair of patients leave a dentist office needing so much work done on their teeth, and the doctor doesn’t mention any of it? We decided to get a second opinion, because we weren’t happy with our care, and our new dentist said we need 2 cavaties fixed between the 2 of us. Sounds like Tovar just wanted to bill us for anything and everything she could. We will never go back there.

Wonderful experience. My hygienist, Erin, was very caring, very knowledgeable and did a fantastic job. She took the time to make sure I really understood everything and answered all of my questions. Will be recommending to all of my friends.

I've never met a dentist who was so empathetic. Her main concern is always my well being. She has a unique 10,000ft ceiling approach to treatment. Very thorough at helping me understand the long term of what's happening with my mouth.

I have been seeing Dr. Tovar for about 3 years. Let’s get real, it’s the dentist. I don’t LOVE going. But Dr. Tovar and her staff have always been pleasant, and I’ve had no issues with my hygiene appts and the couple of fillings I’ve had. My only complaint is that it is nearly impossible to schedule an appointment over the phone- simply because no one ever answers it. I can leave a message and have someone call me back, but then it becomes a game of phone tag, and it’s frustrating - and you do need to book quite far in advance because their schedule seems limited.

This was my first visit at Dr. Veronica Tovar, D.D.S. I had a very good experience from checking in, getting my teeth cleaned and meeting with Dr. Tovar. Everyone was polite and friendly and the lady cleaning my teeth was very gentle too.

Patients, PROCEED WITH CAUTION!

I paid $175 (after insurance coverage) for a single, small filling replacement that Dr. Tovar said was urgently needed. She told me I had 3 other fillings that she recommended replacing as well, but I only chose to do the one at the time due to the price tag and taking into account that none of previous dentists had ever mentioned this was something I needed (we are a military family and move a lot, so we have seen many dentists over the years). I’m certainly glad I waited on further fillings because my new/current dentist said there is nothing of concern about my fillings but if I wanted them replaced, it would be $102 for all 3 TOTAL. Quite a price difference. Dr. Tovar also told me at every visit that the amount of wear on my teeth was alarming for my age. She said I needed to get tested for sleep apnea and pushed me to get their office brand of Invisalign as well as a custom mouth guard for grinding ($5K for the teeth straightening and $200ish for the mouth guard). I chose not to proceed with any of her recommendations because no dentist had ever noticed these issues prior and I was having no other related health concerns. My new/current dentist actually commented today, without prompting, that I had surprising little wear on my teeth and that everything looked great. My point is, before moving forward on what is suggested to you by Dr. Tovar, you may want to consider a second opinion. Nothing that Dr. Tovar flagged me for was an issue with any past or current dentist.

NOTE: If you have United Concordia insurance. They will tell you that they accept it and are in-network but they are *not* in-network (they dropped coverage as of 1/2019). Insurance pays out the same whether you are in network or out of network, but as an out of network patient you will be responsible for any remaining balance. It’s a racket. My boys and I went to Dr. Tovar for 2 years and for the first 3 cleanings, we were in-network. Cleanings were 100% covered. I never paid an additional bills. On the 4th cleaning, I got a $300 bill for our cleanings and a filling that “insurance didn’t cover” and was told that our plan had changed. Our coverage didn’t change- they just dropped our insurance and didn’t tell me. They would not take responsibility and held me to the bill, which of course I paid.

I rated 2 stars instead of 1 because office is clean and bright. Staff was always friendly and helpful. Great hygienists and I always left with clean teeth. This could still be the place for you- if you don’t mind possibly over-paying and/or playing insurance roulette. Good luck!

Everyone is very friendly and knowledgeable. I've been to a few dentists and none of them offered the information that Dr. Tovar and her assistants did! I'm so glad she is in this profession!!

Dr. Tovar and her staff have been so great for our family. We really appreciate the entire staff and the way they treat our individual situations. Dr. Tovar is so calm and relaxed, and we appreciate that! Our family has had such a wonderful experience with everyone.

Our family was going to Dr. Tovar for several years until we moved out of the area mid-2017. We really like going there. But once Lisa started working the receptionist desk, we started feeling uneasy about the responses we received when asking about certain services/charges we had received. She gave short, non-helpful answers to the questions we had. In August, 2016, Dr. Tovar did a root canal for me, but my new dentist found an infection after doing x-rays, and I had to have it redone. She had not done the root canal all the way down the root so a specialist had to fix it.
