Always treated with kindness from the whole staff. They are on top of sending out emails and reminders for cleanings. Basic cleanings and fillings have been fast and painless.

Consider getting a 2nd opinion before getting major work done?

Was told I would need 6+ fillings (including completely removing and redoing an old filling from 5 years ago), a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning. The same story for my fiancé.

Nothing has changed about my dental routine, I have no tooth sensitivity or pain, and I’ve never had a dentist suggest multiple fillings in the past. So, it seems like this office might have a less conservative approach? When I get a second opinion, I’ll update this review if their treatment recommendations are the same.

EDIT: Updated May 2021 (original visit winter 2020)

It’s now been a little over a year and I recently visited the second opinion dentist. My routine for tooth care hasn’t changed, and I still have no tooth sensitivity or noticeable changes in dental health.

The new dentist recommended 1 new filling, and a touch up of two old fillings - one of which would end up needing a crown. She said my teeth were in excellent shape. Gums and everything looked very healthy.

I felt much more comfortable with the assistants at this new office and the more conservative treatment recommendations (2 fillings + crown in one appointment vs. 6+ fillings spread across 3 appointments recommended by United Dental). Even though the new crown recommendation could be considered more aggressive than a filling, I understood why the dentist recommended it. Also was told no deep cleaning necessary).

Also, maybe this isn’t representative of the office on the whole, but I didn’t feel confident in the hygienist who worked on my teeth. She seemed rushed, dropped tools on the ground (did at least change out the tools after dropping them) and had to retake X-rays because the placement in my mouth was off. I told her the dates of my last filling and cleaning, and she told the dentist completely different numbers. She used the periodontal probe to check the depth of my gum pockets, but did it sort of randomly and didn’t say the numbers out loud. The dentist didn’t check the periodontal probe readings. Small things added up and I just didn’t feel confident in the quality of service.

Other downside to consider: the office still charged me $75 when I cancelled an appointment with 24 hours notice. Although I couldn’t find any mention of this policy on their website, they apparently require 48+ hours for cancellation.

Dr Mahzoon is very knowledgeable and honest. She doesn’t push and she makes sure you’ll receive the service you need. I was ready to do some cosmetic dentistry based on my own online search, but she spent time and patiently checked my teeth and gums and recommended a more safer (and cheaper) treatment (even though she could’ve just gone with what I asked). I am happier with my teeth now and will definitely go back!
