I went in for a routine cleaning and they told me I had a crack in an existing crown that would need to be replaced, despite my having no pain or discomfort.

After replacing the crown, I was in the most pain I had ever experienced in my entire life. It turns out that the technician who replaced my crown never bothered to clean out any of the excess cement after the procedure, which inflamed all the surrounding tissue horribly. I went back in and the dentist painfully scraped all of the excess cement away, but a week later, I am still in agonizing pain.

I’m now scheduled to have a whole root canal with another dental practice just to alleviate the constant, unending pain that Highlands Dental has put me through. My tooth is still howling as I write this review. I’m gobbling Advil just to stave off the pain. I can’t sleep through the night. This is misery.

There was nothing wrong with me until I went to this dentist office and paid $1700 to be put in a constant state of pain. If I can even get one person to avoid the agonizing incompetence of undergoing treatment at this nightmare dental practice, I’ll rest a little easier.

Do not go to this dental office. I'm honestly surprised this practice hasn't already been sued for medical malpractice. The dentists present everything like a sales pitch and are constantly pressuring you to do unnecessary procedures. They are also very rough on your teeth and gums, because again, I believe they are trying to convince you that you need additional care. I've never had dental anxiety my entire life until I started going to this practice...entirely related to how uncomfortable the cleanings were and how much I didn't trust the dentists. Dr. Kirk Lewis wanted me to come in every 4 months for cleanings and claimed I had 4 cavities which needed fillings. I got a second opinion from a trusted dentist at a practice with all 5 star reviews. This dentist said I had no fillings with 1 tooth that we were just going to keep an eye on. He also said there was absolutely no need to have cleanings every 4 months and that my insurance only covered cleanings every 6 months (which wasn't explained to me at highlands dentist).

TLDR: this practice only wants your money, doesn't care about you as a patient, and makes cleanings uncomfortable to convince you that you additional procedures.

I absolutely love Highlands Dentist! Been coming here for over a year now and have had nothing but great results. Before I came my teeth were not being cleaned properly, until this place! Super nice staff, Dr. Shonts is also one of the best dentists I’ve ever had!! Thank you!!

Dr. Shontz and the rest of the staff at Highlands Dentistry were very knowledgable, friendly, and welcoming. They took great care of my needs and saw to helping me with a dental emergency very quickly. Since my visit they have been going the extra mile to see that my additional needs with specialists and scheduling have been met.

I highly recommend them!

The office manager here is absolutely terrible at her job, and has caused so many issues it’s caused our family to leave the practice after 6 years. While the dentists at this location have been decent (although there is a crazy turnover… we’ve had a different dentists every year for 6 years), Andrea Shivers is unbelievably difficult to deal with, unprofessional, and incompetent. It is truly shocking that she still has a job, and this reflects poorly on the management of the office in general.

DO NOT COME HERE.

As a first-time patient, Dr Kirk/Chase Lewis quoted me for two crowns, multiple cavities, an extraction and said I need to come in for cleanings every 4 months. The first half of these procedures was going to cost nearly $5,000. This seemed extremely suspicious to me, since I am 30 and my teeth have always been in great condition. I consulted my previous DDS in Wisconsin for a second opinion with the X-rays and scans they took during my visit. This dentist said there are no cavities in my mouth and absolutely no need for any crowns. He also consulted another DDS, as well as advanced dental software to be completely sure.

I've filed a formal complain against Dr Lewis with my insurance provider for unethical dentistry. Please do not let him near your teeth and seek care elsewhere.

Always have a great experience at this office. From the front desk to the doctors to the back office. Modern technology and a great location. Never have had better dental care

A month-long science experiment reached its conclusion today as my girlfriend returned from her dentist appointment. This time, it wasn't with Highlands Dentists.

Data:

HIGHLANDS DENTIST: patient returns crying, feeling exploited, manipulated, and coerced into consenting to unnecessary care after experiencing physical and emotional distress under the hands of the dentist known as Cuck Lewis.

OTHER DENTIST: patient returns smiling, happy about the empathy and sensitivity provided by skilled & respectful healthcare professionals. when informed of previous negligence, this dentist made sure to work with care.

Summary:

The data leads us to believe that the patient was pressured into consenting to excessive care through a number of techniques.

During the periodontal probe, Cuck Lewis was observed applying excessive force to the patient's gums. This led to exaggerated results, as well as pain & bleeding for the patient.

Lewis then attempted to leverage this abuse against the patient, suggesting procedures like scaling & root planing. His negligence was plain to see as the patient was presented with their treatment plan while crying and panicking, confused about what was being recommended to her.

Lewis also offered to correct a slightly chipped tooth, even though it's a very cute tooth. She declined. Are you sure? Are you sure? Are you sure? Yea, she's sure. I offer this L

The other dentist scoffed when informed of Lewis' recommendations. Her follow up appointment with them is in March.

Conclusion:

Be careful when interacting with medical predators such as Cuck Lewis DDS. You may fall victim to the following scheme:

Lewis: "When was the last time you received dental care?"

Patient: "It's actually been a while since my teeth were cleaned!"

Lewis: "I see..." *drooling, thinking about money*

EDIT in response to generic HR copy-paste:
Take the L. Seriously. Reevaluate your business practice, have a team huddle, idk. I have words for you and they’re much stronger than these ones

I am a new customer to Highlands Dentists and was thoroughly impressed. The whole staff was friendly and welcoming, the office was clean and up to date, and Dr. Shonts was incredibly gentle and kind. I can’t say enough good things about this dental practice. Highly recommend!

William Sirico

Nothing but praise for Highlands Dental and staff. They made me feel at ease from the time I was welcomed to the time I left. I've visited twice (once for an exam and second opinion on major restorative work), and again for follow-up treatment I had received out-of-state. Very professional, answered all my questions, thoroughly, and as I said, at ease.
