Hawaii Family Dental - Lihue

Had my cleaning done by Joe and enjoyed the whole experience. From the front, the receptionists are very friendly and welcoming. Joe was excellent, he explained everything that he was doing step by step. I was debating on getting fluoride, but after he explained to me the importance of why he's recommending it, I accepted it. The office looks like it's being updated and everyone looked busy but still had smiles. Overall, enjoyed my visit from start to finish. Thanks Hawaii Family Dental for the awesome experience.

I am a very nervous dental patient due to previous treatments at another office on the mainland. Hawaii Family Dental is the best dental practice I’ve been to. From the friendly and professional front desk staff to the dental techs and dentists. I received top notch great care that was pain free with filling a cavity and I have now scheduled a bridge.

I don’t know how this place has such a high rating or how they are still in business, they are a disgusting and crooked establishment. I went in for a cleaning and the place was filthy, missing light fixtures, unkempt and unprofessional looking. The worst part is I was told I had four cavities which is impossible as I go twice a year for cleanings and am very stringent in my dental care routine..so I got a second opinion from a much more professional dental office and guess what Hawaii family dental definitely lied to me, I had no cavities what a surprise! This place will be reported for their shady practices and I hope they get shut down before they take advantage of any unwitting people.

I'm sort of anti-dentist to begin with. But that said, seeing a dentist for problems is inevitable. Comparing HFD to my previous dentist on a deep clean -- my prior dentist did not numb the gums prior to the procedure but HFD did. So, it made the process tolerable. The staff is excellent at working with the insurances and everyone is cheerful.

Loved the orthodontist, Dr. Tom and my experience with getting braces here however the two hygienists I got were very rude and borderline unprofessional. I suffer from anxiety and depression which led to not some not great care of my teeth. The male hygienist basically made me cry and questioned why my teeth had these issues for me being young. He started to ask questions about my personal life and then asked what I wanted to be when I grow up, when I said a teacher, he said, “how can you be a teacher if you don’t take care of your teeth or listen to what the dentists say. how would expect your students to listen?”

These are very sensitive questions to ask and those comments should not be made in a professional setting. I already felt scared and anxious with someone being up in my mouth- scared they were going to judge me and then they did judge me. I have not visited a dentist since this appointment as I am too frightened to be judged again by a dentist. This happened about two years but I have built up enough courage to bring this up now. Extremely disheartening and disappointing.

Moved here from the mainland not sure who to go to. Very happy we choose Hawaii Family Dental. The staff, and especially the dentist and his assistant were incredible. They worked with us on the price and really maximized the care we recieved for the money we paid. I couldnt be any happier with the service they provided for our 2 daughters. An absolute delightful experience.

Personal staff was very polite, understanding & helpful. (First visit), I’m not completely done with all work that I need done but overall... satisfied with information, can’t wait to go back. Thank you Hawaii Family Dental 👍

Now that my 2nd and final crown appointment has been completed I can only emphasize my great satisfaction. Dr. Chris and his assistants are professional, friendly, informative, and -especially if you have HDS--affordable. The great Hawaii Family Dental experience begins with their fabulous and verdant courtyard and continues through all the office procedures. Choose them!

Fast, efficient, friendly service. I was able to be seen the next day and had an exam and xray. A few days later, my chipped tooth was worked on and fitted with a temp crown by Dr. Apala and his assistant.
I am impressed with their capacity for scheduling patients, and after my experience, I have the utmost confidence in Dr. Apala's work. I will be back to have my future work done there.
3 weeks later, the permanent crown fitted perfectly. Without dental insurance their Hoala Plan discount really helps; well worth the price. Mahalo Lihue HFD and Dr. Apala!
