I am responding to the post by Jody Nivens. This patient called our office to request a panorex x-ray. We declined to take the x-ray with out an examination. We declined because patient do not order there own medical tests. X-rays cannot be performed with out a doctors order.
X-rays emit radiation that can e harmful if used improperly. Without a detailed medical history I can't know if x-rays are indicated. For example I may not want to take elective x-rays on someone with thyroid cancer. I had no order from the patients dentist only the patients request.
Try showing up at a radiologist office and try to request a chest x-ray ,brain scan, etc without a doctors order. Obviously they would refuse for the same reason I did. When a doctor takes an x-ray he is responsible and liable for any pathology on that x-ray. the patient needs to be examined to properly read and diagnose the x-ray. I asked Kelly about the hang up and she said the patient disconnected the call and called back. Kelly has been working her for many years and I trust she did not hang up on the patient.---- Dr Melvin Hanzel
