misdiagnosis unethical overcharging

Do not go to ASPEN. Like another reviewer mentioned, they also incorrectly diagnosed me with moderate periodontitis. They also wanted to use an antibiotic that my OB did not approve during my pregnancy. I left and did not return. Worried about my gums, I risked going to a different dentist during COVID. Turns out, I don’t have periodontitis! Aspen only wanted to charge my insurance for pricey work that wasn’t necessary. I unnecessarily risked my health and home during a pandemic because ASPEN lied to me. They are unethical.

Efficient Staff Recommendation

I was in a hurry because of a schedule conflict. I ended up being less than 10 minutes late to my next appointment. The staff was understanding, and worked as quickly as they could and still do an excellent job.

I would recommend this office of Aspen Dental for all of your toothy needs.

Unnecessary treatments Lack of trust Pushy sales tactics Expensive

When going to a dental office, I expect that they have my best interest in mind, and I left feeling like Aspen Dental was just trying to shake me down for as much money as they could get by trying to pressure me into going through with likely unnecessary "treatments". I don't trust them, I won't be back, and I will tell everyone who will listen about my experience and to not to waste their time at Aspen Dental.
The hygenist started by coming into the room making a comment to the effect of, "alright, let's create a treatment plan." And my first thought was, "you haven't even seen my mouth, what makes you think there needs to be a treatment plan?"
At the end of her "assessment" she informed me I have gum disease. Which, seems odd, being my sister, who is ordinarily the dentist I go to when I'm in Reno, has never mentioned that I have any signs of gum disease.
Another thing I found suspicious with this gum disease diagnosis, was that my friend had been into the office the day before, and she also was diagnosed by the hygenist as having gum disease, which her previous dentist never mentioned. Either the hygenist is better at seeing gum disease than other dental professionals, or she is trying to sell as many treatments as she can whether it is waranted or not. Based on the rest of my visit at Aspen Dental, I'm assuming it was the latter.
Another thing that rubbed me the wrong way with the hygenist was that she asked if I grind my teeth, and I told her I do, and I have a night guard, I just don't wear it as often as I should. It was as if she didn't hear a word I said, because once I got home and looked over the my "customized treatment plan" I saw that she had included getting a night guard. (which wasn't covered by insurance)
The final nail in the coffin for this visit was "going over my treatment plan" with the office manager. I should note that I went in, to get the xrays and exam, with the expectation that I would be able to schedule a routine cleaning afterwards. That is all I wanted, a cleaning. So I assumed that when I went to talk to the office manger, she would set me up with an appointment for that, but instead, she started by asking for my drivers license, which seemed normal enough. Next she asked what my monthly take-home salary was, which seemed like an odd thing to ask a dental patient, so I asked why she needed that information, and I was then informed that she was going to use it for seeing if I pre-qualify for monthly payments. I let her know that was unnecessary, and that I would be able to pay for anything that insurance does not cover out of pocket. She then gave me the treatment plan spreadsheet, which totaled around $925 (my expense/after-insurance) and told me that I would need to pay 60% of that up front. That seemed a bit steep for an exam and xrays (which I assumed insurance should have covered), so I asked her if this was for the exam and Xrays, and that is when she explained it was for the gum disease treatment. I told her I wasn't going to sign up for anything today. And she handed me my packet, and that was the end of my visit.

Unprofessional Pushy Sales Expensive

Went in to get an exam and a cleaning that I was over due for. The actual dentist only came in for about 5 min to review my x rays and take a look at my teeth, after which he said, "we're good," then promptly left. The hygienist then have me brochures and a sales pitch about how I needed some deep pocket cleaning treatment for several sessions and thousands of dollars worth of care that I had never heard of in my life. No dental office since has ever recommended such a procedure. In the end I didn't get a cleaning (because I would have to follow through with their expensive and non essential treatment plan first) And I've learned to stay away from these franchise-like McDentists. There are many local family dentist offices in the area that are far superior.

They were very helpful. Able to get me in the next day after calling them. However the only down fall, on the phone they told me that whatever my dental plan didn't cover, they would set me up for a payment plan. When i got there they did a free exam and X-rays. I had 2 abcess's and was already on antibiotics for one. My tooth needed pulled on my bottom right and they were able to get an appointment for that 15 minutes after being there. When talking to the lady that does billing, she told me the cost would be $4,000 for everything that needed done. They failed to tell me on the phone the day before, that the payment plan they use, is actually a line of credit through another company and they had to run my credit score. I don't have very good credit because of student loans. I work full time and don't have any kind of insurance. I was denied for both credit lines and they don't offer "in office payments". I had to have a tooth removed regardless, so i had to use my rent money to have it pulled. The dentist himself was amazing though! He did a perfect job pulling it and made sure every minute that i was ok and not in pain. He went through step by step on what he was doing and was very nice! I just wish i would have known about the payment issue before i traveled 70 miles. Other than that, it's a great place!

The WORST experience ever!! My adult daughter just returned from an appointment for 2 fillings. During the procedure, the dentist accidentally SLICED her cheek open with his drill, requiring 5 changes of gauze to control the bleeding. She’s home now and an hour later her cheek is still bleeding, in pain and she’s completely traumatized. Please beware if you are a patient as this clinic!

I worked for Aspen for just over two years as an office manager. As a past employee, I do not recommend any Aspen Dental. The corporate culture only cares about how much they up charge each patient. I have seen many procedures botched up and covered up. We have had to pay other Drs to complete extractions or remove endo files that broke in a canal on a failed root canal.
I would also stay away from Dental first financing.

Their billing system is severely flawed. They will confirm the day of procedure that you owe a small portion, then a year later bill you for hundreds of an β€˜unpaid balance’. Terrible front office communication.

DO NOT GO HERE.

I went in before Covid/lockdown but haven't gotten around to writing a review yet. I just moved to Walla Walla from Spokane and needed a new dentist, so decided to go to Aspen dental.

All I wanted was to get my initial exam done so that I could get a regular cleaning. The hygienist did a quick check of my gums and then told me I needed Periodontal Scaling because my gums were receding. She told me I couldn't schedule a cleaning until I did the Scaling treatment, which would include 5 visits and a total of $1,499 out of pocket (plus $446.20 covered by my Dental insurance). I found this very odd because I've been getting regular cleanings in Spokane and my prior dentist had never mentioned receding gums.

Afterwards, I met with another office employee who asked me to schedule the 5 visits and requested a 25% payment up front for those 5 visits. I told her I wasn't going to schedule today. She then asked me how much I make and (thinking that this was just for informational purposes) I told her. Evidently she then ran a credit check, WITHOUT ME EVEN KNOWING. She said I qualify for payments for the visits. The whole visit rang alarm bells and red flags, so I told her I'm not going to schedule any treatment.

I then went to another dentist in Walla Walla, Dr Ganz, who did a thorough exam of my teeth and gums. I asked him to pay special attention to my gums because of what Aspen told me. He told me I have NO RECEDING GUMS and do not need Periodontal Scaling!

Aspen Dental tried to take advantage of me and rip me off. Say if I hadn't gone to the dentist in a while and didn't know any better, I could totally see myself trusting them and I would've been scammed out of so much money. Aspen dental is putting profit above patient care.
