Dr patels is the best dentist I have ever been to. He is honest and trustworthy and does an excellent job. His entire staff is professional and I left my appointment very satisfied, they are amazing from the front desk too they are so friendly, they all are like family I feel comfortable goin there and very happy with my teeth .i highly recommend them to anyone ....

I will preface by saying I am a level 4 local guide on Google. Typically, I give 5 star reviews, as I really believe in supporting local businesses - I am not that person that just comes to write negative reviews. Also, I was a medical practice manager for 7 years, so I feel qualified to give an accurate review of a medical office. A lump developed on my gum (mandible), and I was experiencing EXCRUCIATING gum pain. I made an appointment at Modern Day Smiles, as I have been a patient for about 11 years (I believe Dr. Patel bought the practice out a few years ago, so I was already a patient when he took over). They scheduled me for a few days out, but did call and get me in the same day due to a cancellation. I was super grateful to get in so quickly, and desperate for some relief or at least a diagnosis. The dental assistant was very kind and patient. She gently took X-rays, knowing I was in pain. Dr. Patel came in and I explained my issue. He barely looked at my gum, stating that my X-rays were normal. He said I probably had mandibular tori (bony growth that develops on the lower jaw). I reiterated how much pain I was in. His answer was that I had tori, which causes the skin over the gum to be thin, and that I “probably just CUT MY GUM ON A DORITO”. I was then sent home and told that unfortunately, this was a painful condition that would have to resolve on its own. I came back later that week for my routine cleaning. I told the hygienist that my pain had worsened. She was concerned and said she would see if Dr. Patel would see me again. He refused to come back to speak to me, and instructed her to give me a referral to an oral surgeon. I felt totally dismissed, and helpless, as I was relying on him as a professional to help in some way, or at least give me some information about what was going on.

The next day, the bump my gum opened and started oozing pus. I called back and told the receptionist, asking if I should have at least been given an antibiotic. I told him that I could feel something hard and jagged in the hole that had now formed in my gum. He came back on the phone and said sorry - we are calling in an antibiotic for you. I was not offered and appointment to see Dr. Patel. Days later - taking antibiotic four times a day - no relief and still had pus from the “tori”. After more than two weeks of pain and uncertainty - I extracted a HUGE shard of bone/tooth from my gum (see photo).

I had planned on getting my teeth whitened by Dr. Patel , but this has been one of the most stressful and painful situations I have ever been in. I felt totally dismissed and blown off by Dr. Patel. It seems pretty wild that in 2021 we have people going on leisure trips to outer space - but he could not find a large bone fragment right near the surface of my gum?! If he had at least taken me more seriously or at least came back the second time to check in with me. I’ve been with the practice for over a decade! I would feel better about the care I received (or did NOT receive). A DORITO? I’m speechless. Also, he told me that grinding my teeth was a factor. The oral surgeon I saw later refuted this. Luckily, the pain is getting better since removing the fragment myself. I gave two starts because the rest of the staff is nice and empathetic and I did get a prompt appointment, though it did no good.

I have been going to Dr. Patel for many years and will continue to recommend my family and friends. Modern day smiles is an excellent recommendation that I can give wholeheartedly!

Dr. Patel is great, the staff is so friendly. It makes coming to the dentist easy. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is the parking. It's kind of a small lot but a minor inconvenience. South St petersburg is growing so fast, and I always tell everyone if you need a dentist then come here.

My first time and Chris was wonderful on cleaning my teeth! I also had an x-ray before my cleaning and met Dr. Andrea! She was wonderful as well!

I’ve been coming to Modern Day Smiles for about a year now and I love it. It is a very comfortable environment. Karen is an amazing person. During my visit Karen and Dr. Patel shared the steps of the procedure and were very comforting through it all. It was a pleasant visit. The front office staff was very welcoming and kind. Amazingly helpful staff! I came in with TMJ symptoms and they were quick to give me suggestions on ways to alleviate pain. Highly recommend

Doctor Patel is professional, informative, and friendly. His staff is beyond compare because of their ability to make patients feel comfortable and welcome on each visit. I especially like my dental hygienist, Shelly, and requested her because of her gentle and kind nature. My husband and I both go here and recommend Dr. Patel to everyone.
