Kahului Dental: Dr. Baxter & Dr. Momberg

Dr. Baxter and his team are amazing. I am one of those people who has a huge fear of dentists. Such a big fear that I have avoided going for 10+ years. I went to Dr. Baxter because I had a filling fall out. He and his staff were super awesome, gentle, and made me feel like I was in great hands. They didn’t pressure me to do anything. Made sure I was comfortable, and discussed pricing before doing any work. I will definitely be visiting them regularly, and recommend them to my friends.

I had an extensive cleaning by Angel at Dr. Baxter's office and was dreading it. She was so sweet and took her time and a great listener when I expressed concerns. I ended up having a great experience and know my mouth is in good hands. Dr. Baxter is also the nicest professional I've ever met. Highly recommend!

This experience happened six months ago, however, I tried to make an appointment with a more experienced dentist at this office, which at the time there were several. Was told only Dr. Momberg was accepting new patients (which must have been a lie, since I see other reviewers around the same time were "new" patients to other dentists in the office.) I was seen by Dr. Momberg and also had a teeth cleaning. The hygienist I had was a more experienced lady and besides being amazing at her job, I could tell she was not that impressed without saying a word about this office's unprofessionalism (since the dentist was dancing right in front of us.) I specifically told Dr. Momberg that I was having right jaw pain and trouble opening my mouth. He felt my jaw with his fingers and said, "I don't feel anything unusual" and recommended an OTC mouth splint. His exam of me took no more than 4 minutes. Now the two stars come from me not feeling confident enough in Momberg's ability to correctly diagnose, or even care about my health since during the office visit I observed him continually dancing and hopping around in the front office with one of the cute office ladies up front (not sure of her name.) He was more interested in his social life than his patients which really irritated me. I recently made an appointment with my dentist of over 20 yrs (on another island) on Monday of this week 1/23/23 and explained my continued pain. As suspected the veteran dentist confirmed TMJ after examination and listening to my jaws move with a stethoscope. He gave me some literature and a treatment plan with exercises I could do to try and speed up healing as the pain has significantly diminished over the last two months. The veteran spent about 45 minutes double-checking everything on me, including pulling a cast of my teeth from 15 yrs prior that he made for a set of crowns he did back then. He confirmed I am not grinding, but just clinching after reviewing the cast compared to my current condition of my teeth and the OTC mouth splint. Since my "stress" events that I was experiencing are now significantly decreased, he suggested waiting a few more months to see if the clinching will go away. If not, he wants me to come back so he can create a custom and permanent mouthpiece. He didn't want to put Dr. Momberg down, and he always supports his professional associates, but said, "well not all dentists are trained in TMJ issues." I will say it then: Dr. Momberg is more interested in doing the Mombo dance with his cute co-workers than has interest or concern in his patients. He could change his name to Dr. Mombo and start a hip-hop dance clinic and retire from dentistry. I am not interested in going back to him or his office of Millennials who are flippant and dismissive of older patients.

We are so very thankful for Dr. Baxter and what he has done for our family. There is no better dentist on Earth. Having Dr. Baxter and his staff take care of the dental needs of our family over the years, has been one of the great parts of our lives. Fortunate or lucky does not do it. The best ever! Thank you, Dr. Baxter and the staff at Kahului Dental.

I walked in today hoping to get a chip in my front tooth fixed. Dr. Baxter was recommended to me from Samantha over at Hawaii Smile Designs in Kahului. The staff was super nice and they fit me in even though I did not have an appointment. The fill is virtually undetectable! Thank you Dr. Baxter and the team for everything. You guys rock!

I've been with Dr. Poole at Kahului Dental since August of last year and I've never had more confidence or peace of mind that I'm getting the best care. I have a rather extreme phobia of dentists but Dr. Poole and everyone at Kahului Dental have been so incredibly kind and patient with me. I highly recommend this practice.

Kahului Dental are awesome. Dr. Baxter and team are always patient, send plenty of reminders for appointments, take the necessary time to ensure you understand and appreciate your care, and always have smiles on their faces. Mahalo for all you do.

Hands down the best dental office I’ve ever been to (Maui & beyond)! Dr. Momberg, Dr. Baxter, and all the staff are so kind, professional and fun to be around. I never dread going in for my cleanings. The wait is long as a new patient, but I promise it’s worth it!! :)

I went to three dentists on the west side of Maui and was not pleased. Now I drive a half an hour to Kahului Dental and every minute is worth it. The office is cheerful and efficient. The front desk is actually fun. Dr. Baxter is caring and never in a rush. Painless! His assistant , Sierra is a doll. A pleasure to be around. I have never reviewed a dental office before. This office is the best. Give them a try.
