Hood River Dental

I broke a tooth and chipped another over the weekend, and Hood River Dental managed to fit me in on short notice with Dr. Gonzales. He and his assistant Alma were amazing! He fixed both of my teeth so we'll you can't tell they were ever damaged!

After half a decade of using this dentist, I will no longer recommend them to my friends, coworkers or family.

2 years ago they stopped working with my dental insurance company, which was a huge disappointment, as I had insurance through that company for over a decade. The receptionist suggested I instead pay for their in house Dental plan which was $400 per year and about what I was paying for my dental insurance, so I went for it.

The in house Dental plan had some great deals along with : 10% Off General Dentistry, 5% Off Specialty Dental Services

Flash forward to fall/winter 2022/2023. I make an appointment to have a consultation about my wisdom teeth. They don't need to be pulled, but I would like to get them out of the way so that I don't run into any problems down the road. Receptionist says it will cost $450 for the consultation and that it will take about 15 minutes. (This is where I should have started to realize that I was getting taken advantage of)

I go ahead and book the appointment. A few days later I get a call from the office saying they need to reschedule. So we reschedule. A few days after that they call again and need to reschedule. All right, reschedule. 2 days before my appointment, they reschedule again. Very frustrating as I had to change my work schedule several times in a row with short notice. (Luckily I'm self employed)

Queue the morning of: I get a call stating that they need me to come to their 2nd Hood River Office. All good--happy to do so.

I arrive for my appointment and Dr. Andy Burton ends up showing up 40 minutes later than when I was scheduled to do the X-Ray and talk about it. 40 minutes late... while I'm paying $450 for a consultation...

I'm told it will cost $2500 cash, as Dr. Burton is a private contractor (?). I state that I have the in house dental plan, and I ask how much it will cost with the 5-10% off using my in-house dental plan. I'm told that their plan doesn't apply to the situation...

Although, I'm feeling uneasy about the situation, I go ahead and book the Wisdom Teeth Extraction, because I've already paid $450 for the consultation, and because I no longer have dental insurance. It would cost a fortune and another year of waiting to be able to go to another dentist in order to start all over. I book it 3 months in advance.

This last Friday I get a call from the receptionist(yet again) and she tells me that Dr. Burton will be taking a vacation on the week that I have scheduled to have the extraction done and that we need to reschedule. I told her I would call back.

I will never call back.

My hygienist was new for me. Super friendly, cant remember her name. Very thorough and kind. New to me dentist, also do not know who he was, but equally nice. I dont like someone roughing me up in the dental chair, and didnt feel anything but relaxed the entire time. Also cant leave Dana out, front office personnel. She is always a delight. Great place, been going for years!

Just moved to the area, wont get into the details, but essentially not impressed. There is a woman named Dana, who seems to be extremely competent in her duties, but all other dealings have been sub-par. From telling me that my insurance that I have had since 2020 was not current, which required me to verify and explain it was, to not honoring their scheduling despite jumping through all their hoops. I would recommend looking elsewhere for a dentist, unless you have time and money to waste.

Was an excellent visit to the dentist, and i can not think of a place I would rather not be more. Will be back here for all my dental care.
Good communication with me as visit progressed. Excellent bed side manner. Dentist took his time and was gental as a dentist can be. Best expierience with a dentist and staff I have ever had. 5 stars for sure

The worst. Their service may be great however their scheduling people are incompetent. They scheduled my father with a Medicare plan with a dental provider who was not a regular at their office and who was out of network. Eventhough they told us that he was in-network. Spoke to a billing lady who said she would look into it, just to later get a bill with interest! Way to take advantage of the people who are on Medicare barley making ends meet. Hood River Dental, please educate/ better train your front staff when scheduling with providers who are in-network and Out-of-network for these vulnerable age groups. Hire people who care.

Worst dentist office I’ve ever experienced. Hygienist couldn’t finish my cleaning in time so I had to come back and got charged twice. At one appointment, the dentist was 45 minutes late and had me sitting in the chair waiting, with no explanation.

I was treated like a number, not a patient.

Give a different local dentist a shot before considering this poorly run business.

Jenna was my hygienist. She was energetic, friendly, and engaged me in conversation ; then she went right to work giving me the most thorough and speedy cleaning I think I’ve had in a long time. The clinic itself was organized and had a calm atmosphere.

First time at this dental care facility. Staff was kind, friendly and treated me way I would want to be treated. Also explained everything well and I will definitely be going back!👍🏻

I had my teeth cleaned by Mindy. I suggest her very highly. Very friendly and thorough. Overall the office is well managed, I’ll keep going here and recommend them.
