At the start of my appointment I expressed some uncertainties about having a gold onlay done, which I had agreed to prior. I was not sure I wanted to use gold, or whether I wanted the onlay at all. The doctor explained why he would recommend I get it done (somehow) since I had a cavity forming, and waiting could potentially worsen the issue. He then talked about the types of available materials, how they would work for me, given my habits, and their longevity (which was my primary concern). He did all this without being pushy; he wasn't upset/mad at the fact that I came to the appointment saying, "I'm not sure I want to do this". After about 30 minutes of chatting, I decided to go through with it. I mentioned that I'm frightened of dental procedures, especially needles. He was very careful, and thorough, explaining everything along the way. The next day he called me to to check up on how I'm doing and offer suggestions for getting over any lingering pain faster. Definitely, one of the better dental experiences I've had.
