Horizon Dental
Review of Horizon Dental
Horizon Dental: a dental clinic located in Salida, Colorado, offering a range of dental services including cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, pediatric dentistry, teeth whitening, and more. The clinic is open from Monday to Thursday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and closed on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
While some customers have had negative experiences with the clinic, others have left glowing reviews. One customer praised the clinic for their quick and affordable emergency dental services, stating that they were impressed with the level of care they received and the minimal pain they felt during the procedure. Another customer appreciated the clear insight and advice provided by Dr. Matt Wood, who they described as beyond exceptional in his expertise.
However, other customers have had less positive experiences, with some describing the clinic as shabby and dirty, and others feeling neglected or mistreated by the dentist. One customer claimed that they were overbooked and received minimal work, and that the dentist treated them with very little respect. Another customer felt caught off guard when asked where they wanted to start their treatment, and wished they had been given more information about the process.
Overall, Horizon Dental offers a range of dental services and has received both positive and negative reviews from customers. It may be worth researching the clinic further and reading customer reviews before making an appointment.

Don't go here the dentist is a bully and they do terrible work. They over book patients and do minimal work. I was neglected by the dentist and at the end of my treatment nothing was done right at all. I had to go to another dentist where they were horrified by the level of neglect that this dentist did. Basically he treats his patients with very little respect and I hope this office goes out of business. He called and tried to bully me to take the review down. After wasting my time why would I ever have any contact with them or let them anywhere near are my mouth

Just visiting Salida and my temporary crown broke. They got me in immediately and made me a new temporary to get me back home. Everyone was incredibly nice, they gave me options and they were affordable.
Also, in the past I have usually had dentists numb me with a topical before inserting the needle to numb my mouth. Dr. Matt did not, however, I have felt the needle more when I have had the topical then when Dr. Matt inserted the needle. I was shocked (and impressed) I felt so little.
I am usually very stressed by dental work and for an emergency visit it was a quick and pretty easy visit. I'd highly recommend Horizon Dental. If I lived here this is where I would go.

I went in with a very painful tooth. They were unable to determine which tooth was giving the trouble, and so sent me away with an appointment a month and a half away. I asked what was I supposed to do, and didn't get any real answer. When I asked about pain medication, the Dr. Said, " well, I'm not going to give you any pain medication!" As if I were a junkie or something. He seemed angry, and said something under his breath as he angrily left the office.
I understand that he didn't want to pull, or work on, the wrong tooth-- thats great--fine as far as it goes...
He gave me a comprehensive plan of action to deal with many dental issues I have, which is also appreciated.
But I left that office in tears after not being treated, and not given any idea how to deal with a bad tooth and pain.
So I walked to a dentist that was next door who told me to come back at 8am the next morning. (a one hour drive each way) which I did, and paid out of pocket (I am on Medicaid) for their evaluation. They did x-rays and CT scan, explained which tooth, how bad it was, and recommended either a root canal done by an endodontis, to which they gave me a referral, or an extraction. The Dr also explained which combination of over the counter medications, and in what doses, would help alleviate the pain best.
The really crazy part about this is that I am quite sure Horizon Dental knew I would need a root canal, or an extraction, because I heard the Dr tell his assistant "but she is going to need a root canal " ! I am left wondering what the heck is going on there. Sure, it was great they could fit me into their schedule that day, but thats not enough. Sorry.
A day or two later, the office called me and left a message that they had a cancelation a few days away, but I do not feel confident going back there.
Aside from all of the above, the office is shabby and dirty, and doesn't leave a very good first impression. That wouldn't have bothered me if I had received good treatment. Based on all the 5 star reviews here, I guess alot of people had a great time there, but I sure didn't.
Now, on this holiday weekend, I am left contemplating my options; paying for care that Medicaid actually covers, or waiting another interminable span of time, in pain, with risk of infection, for an appointment at one of the Valley Wide Clinics. I am hoping they will accept the diagnosis of the 2nd dentist and do an extraction asap, without sending me home, only to have to wait even longer for an appointment for treatment.

I can’t recommend them enough. They made my 2 hour appointment more than tolerable, even pleasant, after I spent the days leading up to it anxious. Sonia assisted Dr. Matt today and they were both wonderful. All of the staff, starting at the front desk is always very sweet and welcoming. I’m actually excited for my next appointment and to continue working with them! Thank you

I have mixed feelings about this place. I chipped a tooth a while back and have been unable to chew with my RIGHT side, as there is roughly 1/4 of my tooth missing. I went in for an intake appointment (X-rays and whatnot) and the doctor explained the work I was going to need done on my mouth as a whole. That was fine, it made me feel like they had a plan.
The day of my next appointment arrives and I'm sitting in the chair when the assistant asks me, "So where do you want to start today?" What? Where do I want to start? I was caught completely off guard. I thought you guys made a plan for how we go about this. So we did work on the upper LEFT side.
Getting the work done on the left side is fine. It needed to happen anyways. But had I been informed that its was UP TO ME where we start, I would have picked the side that actually was giving me trouble before having work done on teeth that weren't giving me problems. So now I'm here with sensitivity I never had before, on the side I HAVE to chew with, still unable to use the right side of my mouth.
Let this be a lesson to myself and future patients: after your intake appointment, after they have assessed your mouth and told you what work you need done, YOU DECIDE WHERE THEY START AND WHAT HAS PRIORITY. I only wish someone would have told me. Like maybe the doctors office. "What side is giving you the most trouble?", not "Where do you want to start?" Or maybe inform the patient that it is in fact up to them what takes priority. Had I just been given that simple information ahead of time, I would have been ready to answer the question and probably ended up a lot more satisfied.
Maybe it's my lack of common sense, maybe they could have made it clearer. Either way, 2 stars. I will finish out my current dental work and find a different dentist.
Edit: All of that being said, the work they did do was done well and in a timely manner. I just would have preferred to get the particular work I had done after my primary problems.

I had an appointment set for the month of June and needed immediate attention, the staff at Horizon when called got me in within 20 minutes of my call. Amazing . Dr Matt and staff are the best. Two teeth removed with no pain. The office manager gave me a discount as well. Thanks for your understanding. Peace and Love

Dr Matt and his entire staff are great! He always takes the time to make a patient feel comfortable and understand the procedures. Probably the best dentist my family has ever used.

Dr. Matt Wood and the staff at Horizon dental we're great. They were professional and compassionate.
They also took the time to explain the procedures they were going to do, and gave an explanation of each step as they were doing the work. This was very comforting.
I would highly recommend them.

This was my first time with Horizon Dental and I was nervous because I had not been to the dentist in more than 2 years. However, Matt and the staff were wonderful and made for a pleasant day at the dentist. The entire process was one of the best experiences I have had at the dentist. Definitely would recommend for anybody that needs to go!
