Professional, kind, and caring. I canβt say enough about the staff and dentists at Advanced Family Dentistry. I was able to get a broken tooth repaired and crowned in one visit in under three hours. They do everything from start to finish in-house. Dr Williams and technician Marta are A+ and would highly recommend if you have any dental anxieties. Calm and helpful through every step. Willing to explain and discuss options. Reasonable rates.

I was unable schedule an appointment for several years with Advanced Family Dentistry, but upon my return it seemed like it was a very short time as the staff was welcoming and anxious to reestablish the concern for my dental mouth health. The wait time was minimal from the time I arrived and when the hygienist escorted me to her work area. She was truly concerned and was anxious to up date and improve my dental care and insure my were healthy or required additional attention. When doctor entered the room she reviewed what the hygienist had found and discussed with me any concerns I had. I was nice to reconnect with folks familiar with and concerned about my health.

Starting off this review I would like to state I havenβt had dental services in 10-12 years. They made me feel right at home and were tremendous on the quality of care. Any questions or concerns were promptly addressed and in depth with the process. I highly recommend this place of practice. Thank you again Marta and Dr. Carlson!

As a person who has high anxiety when it comes to the Dentist, Iβm so thankful for Advance Family Dentistry. Dr. Stewart and all the staff are always so kind and never make me feel ashamed, when I go long periods of time without visiting the dentist. Because of the welcoming and kind atmosphere, Iβve been able to have regular 6 months appointments without fear of going and I even went for a scan to see about doing Invisalign. Iβm so thankful for this office and would recommend to anyone!

10/10, recommend! Dr Carlson and his assistant were both phenomenal. They got me in the next day, both had great bedside manner, he was gentle and precise, and payment was more than fair.

Yesterday, I took my nearly 9 year old son for his six month checkup. My wife and I have always refused x-rays as we feel they are unnecessary and harmful, especially to a growing child. Right from the start, I was asked by the woman checking my son's teeth if we would do x-rays as nothing was on file. I declined as I usually do. The woman was not happy about this and let me know about it. While looking over my son's teeth, the woman said she had found three cavities in my son's baby teeth. While he has never had any cavities before, I knew he hadn't been brushing as thoroughly within the last 6 months and I had not been doing a good enough job keeping on top of his brushing properly. I explained that I would make sure we do better going forward but it was clear that she was not satisfied with my response.
The dentist eventually came in and checked my son's teeth briefly. At this time, a long discussion between the dentist, the woman, and myself occurred about their need to x-ray my son in order to treat his cavities. From my perspective, it was a very unpleasant exchange and I felt like I was being grilled about my concerns and judged for my opinion. I explained repeatedly that I would like to continue to hold off on any x-rays and that I would discuss any treatment options with my wife. Even though the cavities were not causing my son any pain, I agreed that we could look into having them filled. The dentist told me that they would not do any treatments whatsoever without x-rays and that if I continued to refuse having the x-rays done, we would need to seek out another dentist. He was then ready for us to leave without my son having had his teeth cleaned. I was a bit shocked and asked if they could please do the cleaning before we go. He said that he guessed they could do the cleaning since we were already there. I could not believe that they were willing to have us leave without finishing cleaning my son's teeth simply because I refused x-rays. I was very upset as this was unprofessional.
Afterwards, the woman cleaning my son's teeth made some comments that bothered me but I let them slide. However, one comment she made really angered me which prompted my writing this negative review. She told me that I was neglecting my child for refusing x-rays. I understand that we have a difference of opinion on x-rays (and fluoride which also came up), but to tell me I am neglecting my son by my making decisions that I feel are in his best interest in order to protect him from unnecessary treatment is not neglect and it is beyond ridiculous to believe so. I was not the one who refused to take care of the cavities. I was told by the both the dentist and this woman that they would not do anything to treat the cavities unless we agreed to do x-rays. According to a dentist friend of mine, this was medical blackmail, especially as the teeth were baby teeth that were not causing my son any pain which makes x-rays and treatment unnecessary.
People need to understand that we, as parents, have a right to refuse medical procedures and treatments if we are not comfortable with them. I have my reasons, after years of researching x-rays and fluoride, for not wanting my son exposed to either. I understand that the people at this dentist office disagree with my position, which is fine, and that they can refuse to provide treatment. However, I do not feel it is appropriate for medical "professionals" to try and hard-sell procedures while making judgmental comments in front of my child. As I said, this whole situation was handled very unprofessionally by both individuals.
In the end, even though we scheduled a 6 month follow-up, I was told to find another dentist if we continued to refuse x-rays. After this experience, I am happy to oblige.

I recently transferred to AFD from another dentist in Ankeny. What a difference! Everyone here has treated me and my family with compassion and presented multiple options for dental care when necessary. They were also able to fit us in their schedule in a timely manner. I cannot say enough good things about this practice.
