The University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics is a dental school and clinic located in Iowa City, Iowa. The clinic offers a range of dental services, including cleanings, fillings, root canals, and extractions. The clinic is staffed by dental students and faculty, who provide care under the supervision of licensed dentists.

The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, and is closed on weekends. Patients can schedule appointments by phone or online. The clinic accepts most insurance plans, and offers a sliding fee scale for patients who are uninsured or underinsured.

While some patients have had positive experiences at The University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics, others have reported issues with wait times, pain management, and communication with staff. Some patients have also expressed frustration with the fact that their care is provided by students, rather than licensed dentists.

Despite these concerns, many patients appreciate the affordable prices and high-quality care provided by the clinic. Patients also appreciate the friendly and respectful staff, and the fact that the clinic is part of a prestigious institution that is committed to improving dental health in the community.

If you are looking for affordable dental care in Iowa City, The University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics may be worth considering. However, it is important to keep in mind that your care will be provided by dental students, and that wait times may be longer than at a traditional dental office.

I've used the U of I Dental Clinics exclusively since moving to Iowa City a few years ago. They always get me in right away and I've never had a problem with any of the students I've been assigned. Work that would have cost me thousands elsewhere was just a fraction of the price at the school. Best of all, I've never had a problem with anything they've done - which includes fillings, root canal, crowns, and an implant. The only reason for a 4 instead of 5 star rating is that you will spend more time in the chair there. Time spent having a doctor of dentistry check and re-check student work. Small price to pay IMHO.

I started getting dental work done in IaCity in 2018..for the next 2yrs my work was done by a student that was waiting to take her board exams…then Covid hit and all scheduled appts were cancelled and the clinic was open to emergencies only…once they were able to start seeing patients again I come back with a worse mouth than I started. A good portion of the work that was done had fallen out, as well as I owed money…I had 1 appt in 2020…how could I owe money…to make a long story short…they don’t stand behind their work…the teeth they worked on, I would get charged for again…very disappointed…I am now retired and don’t have the coverage I previously had…nor the time to come back every week with minimal work done.

Children are not allowed in the waiting room of this facility.

Response to owner edit : our family was asked to leave one waiting area for another without a prior warning after our carefully supervised 2 year old laughed to loudly for one of the employees which we complied with, after my wife and I were separated she was harangued by the clerk who kicked us out until she no longer felt comfortable staying. as such we never reached an "operatory area" . this is the only part of the visit I found unacceptable.

The details of this incident are entirely subjective and to be sure was actually a personality conflict between the employee and myself however, they investigated the matter and offered no apology, certainly our removal is their policy which is obviously their prerogative.

I'm sure most people reading this will have a more positive outcome, but this was our experience.

Best care anywhere and prices are reasonable compared to private dentists. All options are fully explained and they do their best to meet all your concerns and needs. Really great place and we're fortunate to have the college available to the general public : )

The best dental care I have ever received. Care is the primary concern here, without the push for procedures etc. that one finds in commercial clinics. Having moved, we now happily drive four hours, one way, to continue to work with our trusted regular caregivers at the University.

Completely painless procedures done by patient, professional and capable students. I've been a patient for a number of years (I'm 80+ yrs old) and would strongly recommend them to anyone who wants to save on dental care.

I've always been prone to have cavities and bigger issues with my teeth, even though; I take care of them. I've been to many dentists and they always treat me like I am "less than" because of my issues with my teeth. However, Dr. O at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry was amazing and never treated me with anything, but respect. I highly recommend him!

Excellent with children my children but could be more compassionate with adults. Or at least, consider how embarrassed they are and how much strength it took for an adult with failing teeth to come in--because believe it or not---we all see your judgements. Especially the secretaries...

I went in to get a tooth prepared for a crown. In the morning they were to shape the tooth and make a temporary crown. In the afternoon they would take impressions and order the crown. I was in the chair from 9 AM until 5.15 PM except for 45 minutes for lunch. Their pain killer didn't work or the student didn't know how to use it. I swear the male instructor who came in in the afternoon was high for the first hour or so and barely knew were he was. They crammed a rope under under my gums to spread them from the tooth and cleaned it with cold water and air to take the impression. If they had been trying to get information from me I would have told them any thing they wanted to know, weather I knew it or not. In the end both of the impressions they tried to take were unusable. The instructor nonchalantly told me that I was in a learning environment and I would need to make another appointment and come back. I have had dental work there before and had generally good results, but i wouldn't wish this experience on anyone.
