The staff, hygienist and doctors, are great as far as the service. They are awesome working with the kids and did a great job with my daughter who required a lot of work. However, the billing has much to be desired. What I signed before the procedure was not what I was billed at the end. The explanation for the discrepancy was unsatisfactory and I could not get a print out of the final bill and was told that what I signed was only an estimate which was not explained to me when I signed it. It also was not clear that the bill has to be paid in full that day. Who is prepared to pay a $700 bill on the spot when you were going for a routine cleaning. There needs to be more explanation and clarity when it comes to the billing. My experience was great until the check out process. The doctors get a 5 star but the billing process needs improvement. I refer my patients to Pearly Whites all the time but will have to give them a heads up.

I started bringing my child to Pearly Whites because in the provider directory for Horizon NJ Health, they were listed as a pediatric dentist office location that checked the “yes” box for patients with developmental disabilities. My child is on the autism spectrum and this is something that has been documented since he first started going to this location in 2018. The staff was able to get his regular cleanings done and put sealants on his molars and I was never told by the staff that I should consider bringing my child elsewhere because of his special needs. It was recently recommended by the dentist that he start receiving orthodontic treatment at Pearly Whites. It should have been a red flag from the beginning when at the consult, Dr. Tiffany Chen recommended waiting another 6 months before beginning treatment to see if my son’s permanent upper canine teeth would come in (all of his baby teeth were surgically removed by them 10 months prior and the permanent upper canine teeth still showed no signs of coming in). You would think that a doctor would take a minute to look over a patient’s file and see that this was part of the reason why the patient was referred for an orthodontic consult in the first place. After going to 4 consecutive appointments to start the process of getting a palate expander and braces, I was told by Dr. Tiffany Chen that they did not feel that their office was “the right fit” for my child’s orthodontic treatment due to the amount of time that his appointments were taking and how he was handling treatment (behaviors like being hesitant to let the staff look in his mouth when he was afraid of what was being done and crying when something caused him discomfort, which is typical for a child with an ASD). I was given the option of getting a referral to bring my child to the Rutgers Orthodontic Clinic where they’d have more “time” for my child’s appointments or to “wait until my child is older to try treatment again”. My son is entering 6th grade and Dr. Chen even agreed with me that him starting treatment for having his palate expanded would be even more uncomfortable and painful for him at an older age due to the bones likely being fused by then, so I’m not sure why she would suggest that option. Both of these options would also require starting the process all over again of getting x-rays done, having spacers put in for a week and then taken out again. I understand that time is money for these people, but I find it completely unacceptable to refuse to continue a patient’s treatment after making them waste their own time and money on copays and gas having to go to four appointments just to be told that they don’t think their office is “the right fit” for your child and that you’ll have to start the process all over again elsewhere. I also think that if we had private health insurance that paid them more per visit, their office may have still been “the right fit” for my child, but unfortunately there is nothing I can do about this. If you have a child without any developmental disabilities, then you will probably have an okay experience here. If your child does have a developmental disability, please consider going elsewhere as this place does not have the time for children that they can’t get in and out of their chairs in less than 10-15 minutes.

My mom recommended since we have toddlers 1.5 years apart. I arrived 15 mins early. My appt time was 9:30, we were seen within 5 mins of arrival and done by 9:45. They Sung to him and calmed him down (first dentist visit). They were really nice and he got a prize after .

This pediatric dentist was the BEST. She got my special needs child to do everything she needed to do and he didn't cry once. Very patience and companionate with my kids needs. Recommend a least invasive procedure and my son looks forward to returning.

The doctor we had was really rude. She had us wait 37 minutes past our appointment time and then didn't have the decency to apologize. She never says two words to me. She is not courteous and has bad mannerisms.
