I've been seeing dr Julie for quite sometime now. I was a patient of hers when she was in Surfside and I have now followed her to Mount Pleasant. Dr. Julie does all my routine dental work and she also did my veneers that I could not be more happy with they look absolutely amazing. Dr. Julie also now sees my four-year-old little girl and she absolutely loves her Dr. Julie and her staff make her feel so special, she loves going to Dr. Julie's office.

While visiting family in Charleston last week -- I currently live in Kansas City, MO -- some nagging tooth sensitivity flared, so I decided to have it checked out while in town. I was formerly a patient of both Drs. Sexton and Slovan, so I contacted Pleasant Smiles for an appointment. They were able to get me in the following day, I had no waiting time when I arrived for my appointment. The staff was very friendly and lively (especially for 7:30 am), my cleaning was expertly and efficiently completed. When Dr. Obenchain examined my teeth she found a cavity (that my KC dentist missed at my most recent appointment), she asked if I'd like to take care of it that morning and simply transitioned me to another chair to complete the filling. Dr. Obenchain was knowledgeable, personable, and made the entire experience simple, painless, and rather enjoyable. Dr. Obenchain also polished and adjusted my bite guard, free of charge. Given that I have family in Mt. Pleasant/Charleston and visit 2-3 times a year, I am strongly considering (like 90-95% decided) making Dr. Obenchain and her staff at Pleasant Smiles Dentistry my permanent dental provider.

Disappointed. I've been a patient for two years. Went for a cleaning after a year of waiting for my face to heal (orbital bones were broken in three places) and got a hygienist in a big hurry. Even after I told her why I hadn't been in for a cleaning in a year--that my face was healing from being broken in three places--she knocked the metal piece I was biting down on (extending from my mouth) with the machinery she was swinging around (too fast). She also had to retake an X-ray because it was blurry (in too big of a hurry?).
I also told her my tailbone was injured and I had to sit cross legged in the X-ray chair to shift pressure off tailbone and onto my sit bones. Even so, after the X-ray, she started reclining the chair back which shifts pressure back onto tailbone, without so much as a word of warning—ouch. I'd had it by then and felt too unsafe to stay for the cleaning. I told the receptionist what happened.
When I called back to reschedule with another hygienist, the receptionist said, "I'm sorry that happened. I'm sorry there was a disconnect," as if the hygienist and I just had a communication problem! That was blame shifting if I ever heard it. I was prepared to give the office another try, even after the bad experience---that's why I had called back. Dr. Obenchain then spoke with me by phone and insisted this hygienist was a compassionate person, but said she would speak to her about what happened. After that, I couldn't bring myself to reschedule. I'm done with this office.
