I've been coming to Professional Dental in Layton for a few years now and I don't see any reason to change that. They're at a convenient location (off the highway and by a Walmart), have a comfortable waiting area, nice staff, have fun incentives for kids, and are competent at their jobs of keeping my teeth clean and healthy.

"Professional Dental" (which...what? Aren't all dentists professionals?) is a place where inexperienced or less skilled dentists and hygenists come to practice their trade on people who don't have the insurance coverage to go somewhere good.
This is a huge problem in Utah; there are so many mediocre dental practices around here. But these are your teeth we're talking about. Mistakes are permanent and expensive.
I came in to Professional Dental for my first appointment.
I was told at the reception desk that they would no longer be accepting my insurance after the end of the next month, so they would try to "get as much done as possible". I thought about leaving right there, but I figured I'd at least stick it out for a cleaning.
The woman at reception was also my hygienist. She proceeded to give me the roughest, most rushed, slipshod cleaning and polishing I have ever received. When she measured the depth of my gum pockets, she honestly seemed to be rattling off numbers as fast as she could say them. I have a hard time believing she was getting anything like accurate measurements. She took a length of floss and jammed it straight down--hard, and only once--between each tooth. Several times, she missed a tooth all together with the pick and snagged/scraped my gums. And finally, there were three instances where she flushed my mouth with water and didn't apply any suction. I was baffled, angry and in pain. My teeth were still sensitive five days afterwards. I've recovered from fillings and other procedures in the past faster than I did from Professional Dental's routine cleaning.
Then the dentist came in. He looked at my x-rays and pointed some things out to me. He pointed out a darker area on one of my teeth in an x-ray and said I'd need a filling and a crown; the crown sooner rather than later, or I'd need a root canal instead.
So I made an appointment. It was expensive and invasive, but I trusted this person to permanently alter part of my body. He was a professional, after all.
The receptionist gave me a 45min slot and told me to call and see if they could expand it, as this was not enough time to put in a crown. Not understanding, I asked if she could do that since...it seemed like it was her job? She said she "wasn't authorized".
I ended up having to cancel the appointment. Lucky for me.
I ended up finding a dentist closer to my home that took my insurance. Cooney Family Dental. They were efficient, friendly and--wait for it--professional.
They took more x-rays. I told them what I'd heard at Professional Dental. Their dentist gave me a confused smile and asked, "do you know where exactly they wanted to put in a crown?" I said it was the tooth that had some dark shading on it, which apparently indicates infection?
He shook his head. He showed me that a tooth with a darker spot in one x-ray will look fine in another, and have a dark spot on a different area in the next. Apparently, you should be looking at multiple images before you take action as drastic as putting on a crown. I did not need a crown at all. I don't know if the dentist at Profesional Dental was lax, incompetent or just wanted to go to Bermuda.
My suggestion: if your options are so limited that you can only afford Professional Dental, bite the bullet and pay out of pocket from somewhere good.
Edit: just got a call from Professional Dental nine months later, asking if I was going to be seeking further treatment. I explained that no, I was not. I found a provider that accepts my insurance. And furthermore, I found a provider that offers a much higher standard of care.
The reply below says they "want to look into this", but I never heard anything from them. Maybe it was all handled without the need for anything on my end, but I would assume the reply was just so much meaningless noise to soften a bad review. I came so close to spending a ton of money permanently damaging my teeth for no reason. "Sorry about that" doesn't quite cover it.

Dental hygienist was super nice and really quick at cleaning my teeth. I appreciate that they take my insurance and that they were able to see my husband and me at the same time. Love the doctor too!
