Art Of Modern Dentistry

I've been a Art of Modern Dentistry patient for almost a decade at both the South Loop and Lincoln Park locations. Currently I go to the LP office and have to say these are the bets dental pros in Chicago. From the hygienists, to the doctors, to the office staff everyone is professional, nice, and wonderful at their job.

PS, shout out to the amazing Marsha for getting me out of a scheduling jam! Y'all are the best!

Dr. Mell has been a godsend for me. She performed an emergency procedure for me at the South Loop office on a holiday weekend. I hadn't been to the dentist in years out of fear, and she was so kind and understanding of my situation. I had follow-up treatment at the Lakeview Office, and she continued to be sympathetic, understanding, and willing to work with me on my fears. Her assistant, Aziza, is equally understanding, and they make an excellent team. If you are a fearful patient, please go see Dr. Mell. She is exactly the kind of dentist I needed--kind, but an expert, so she was able to provide me service with both compassion and great skill (and speed).

I had a really bad experience... like bad bad at another larger area dental practice, and upon switching to Art of Modern Dentistry I finally was at ease and all my "issues" were dealt with in a timely manner and it was all very friendly. Special shout out to Marsha who can make any insurance issue better. As a client that has seen the full range of services - root canal, invisalign, whitening, and tmj treatments - I would not hesitate to recommend, or even convince friends and family to come to my dentist :)

I was blown away by the warm energy that radiated from the staff. They made sure that I understood everything and knew what the cost would be before we moved forward. Each person took the time to sit with me and explain the process. These people clearly love their job, their co-workers, and have a passion for assisting their clients with their dental health.

I went in for an exam and cleaning. John The hygienist did my cleaning, and he was extremely gentle as I have very sensitive teeth. Dr. Hamed did my exam, he was thorough and efficient. Will be back in 6 months for my next cleaning.

Visited this dentist a few weeks back with a minor chipped tooth to receive dental bonding and left very disturbed by the lack of ethics displayed by the dentist.

Dental bonding is a very common non-invasive procedure to fill in chips with a resin. In this case the dentist flat out refused to do dental bonding as she saw the procedure as a 'temporary' solution. She basically lied to me saying that bonding lasts less time each time it is performed (this is not true, not backed up by studies, and also not backed up by experience). She instead wanted to do a veneer for the tooth. I have spoken to many dentists, many of whom are good friends, and all agree that recommending veneers (in which the tooth would have to be significantly shaved down) is completely inappropriate and destructive for such an incredibly minor chip to a tooth. It was pretty obvious the dentist wanted to do veneers purely for the money (veneers cost thousands as opposed to a few hundred, plus you really need to do veneers in pairs for a more complete look). Recommending an inappropriate procedure for monetary reasons showed a complete lack of ethics. There is only one other reason the dentist may have recommended veneers and that is that the dentist just wasn't skilled enough to do bonding (being a more nuanced technical procedure). I went to another dentist nearby who was more than happy to do the bonding.

Either way, I would recommend potential patients avoid going to dentists such as these that don't have your best interests at heart.

EDIT, IN RESPONSE TO THE REPLY:
I am disheartened regarding the false accusation regarding COVID precautions. It is unbelievable that you would try to discredit my review through such an accusation. Having lost relatives to COVID I take exceptional precautions. Your response shows a lack of ethics at all levels.

I have had two bondings in the past, one lasted 8 years and one 10 years. (i.e. I have had the chip for 18 years). This is the expected life of bondings, it is not that they have 'failed' - a dentist should know that. I did not say I wanted a permanent solution, I said I wanted another bonding...

Lastly, bondings do not cost up to $2400 - a simple Google search will tell you that they cost on average $200-600. If you charging up to $2400 then there is something very wrong with your prices! The chip (not fracture) was on the bottom corner of a front top incisor, and another dentist found it incredibly easy to fix, which speaks volumes about the competency of the dentists here if they think that is difficult.

I have found the response to my review even more concerning that my original experience, and hope others can learn from this what sort of dental practice they are dealing with here.
