I do not recommend Mid-City Smiles and, especially, do not recommend Dr. Anderson. I had scheduled an appointment three months in advance to be seen at 3:45pm yesterday for fillings. The appointment was explicitly scheduled so that I would be able to get a deep cleaning just before having my cavities filled to avoid extra costs for anesthetics and, especially, to avoid multiple injections.
After my first session on the 3rd floor, I checked-in with the 1st floor front desk at 3:30pm. The receptionist said that I’d be seen shortly but asked if I’d be willing to pay for my session in advance as I’d be the last appointment of the day. I was confused why I would be the last appointment for 3:45pm, but I paid and sat down. As I waited, I saw the dental staff call at least three people who had walked in after to be seen before me. At this point it was clear that there had been a scheduling mistake that had not been communicated to me. I’m left to imagine (as neither Dr. Anderson nor his staff made an effort to explain why I was made to wait so long) that the receptionists had overbooked the afternoon, and Dr. Anderson chose to move my appointment to the end of the day without my knowledge instead of canceling one of his appointments or asking me reschedule for several months later.
I was moved to an examination room after about forty minutes in the lobby only to wait an additional thirty minutes. Very frustrated and upset, I asked a hygienist who I ran into in the hallway to check on the doctor. About 2 mins after, a dental assistant popped her head in the room and said the doctor would be with me shortly—a statement that at this point generated more resentment than relief as I’d already heard it one hour earlier. I wasn’t able to make out who spoke with me, because they didn’t make an effort to walk into the room and face me to speak to me directly.
When Dr. Anderson finally entered the room, he made no effort to apologize or offer an explanation for my wait time. If I had sensed that Dr. Anderson had felt any remorse or concern for my experience it quickly faded after Dr. Anderson disappeared from the room after giving me two additional anesthetic injections. Dr. Anderson gone, his assistant inserted brackets into my mouth and also left the room without any communication whatsoever. Dr. Anderson and his assistant left me alone under the lamp with dental devices in my mouth for more than ten minutes. As someone with medically related anxieties I became very stressed, started to sweat and at one point unsuccessfully tried to remove the devices in my mouth. Very frankly, had I not already paid for my visit I would’ve yanked everything out and walked out of the office.
All in all, I’ve never felt such an outstanding level of disrespect/disregard by a medical professional. I find it outrageous that I was made to wait more than an hour given the office’s well marketed veneer of professionalism and, especially, the exorbitant prices that clients are made to pay. The lack of communication and wait time are particularly egregious as any client would be charged a late fee for arriving to this clinic more than 10 mins after a scheduled appointment. One would expect that Dr. Anderson and his staff would treat his patients with greater concern and respect for their wellbeing, experience and time, especially, after having paid close to $1,000 for his services. The entire experience felt more like that of a low-end hair salon than an upscale dental clinic. Very frankly, I can’t imagine being treated with the same level of paternalistic disrespect or outright neglect had I, a young Latino man, been a middle-aged white man. I have no interest in returning to Mid-City Smiles.

It had been a couple years since I've been to the dentist, and saw some good reviews about this place, and it happened to be close to my house. I was so pleasantly surprised how well taken care of. I was, as I often times get a little nervous / anxious When going to the dentist. I would highly recommend these guys to anyone! They were wonderful, and I won't be as nervous going back for my next appointment. :-)

My original appointment date for a cleaning was weeks away but I was called when an earlier appointment became available and I really appreciated that. The receptionist was nice and polite. Betsy cleaned my teeth and was very sweet and gentle. I felt very welcomed. This was my first visit I’m speaking of and was very impressed. I’m confident that I made a good choice choosing Mid-City Smiles for my teeth cleaning.

The customer service felt by every member of the staff is memorable. The dentist is the last place I want to be, but the staff here makes a visit to the dentist almost enjoyable.

Great dentist experience! The ladies at Mid City Smiles made the whole new patient intake process quick and painless. The actual cleaning and exam went smoothly, too. They were all professional, courteous and thorough. The exam rooms were relaxing with music, windows and interesting art. I have a treatment plan now and she even gave me an oral cancer screening as part of my appointment. I finally found a great dentist in this city! Thank you, Mid City Smiles!
