I am a person that hates the dentist, until I started coming to Smile Design Studios. The staff is amazing, very friendly, personable and informative. They are very thorough in their exams and work. Definitely a great dentist office.

First visit and my RDH, Tever, was wonderful! I've never been advised about my teeth so thoroughly and her chair-side manner was excellent! A pleasant dental appointment; imagine that?!

One of the most dishonest dental practices in Missouri City. I scheduled an appointment for a routine cleaning as a first time patient which is covered under my insurance. I visit the dentist every 4-5 months for a cleaning despite the 6-month that is recommended and have never had an issue. Upon making the appointment, I explained to the front office that I only needed a routine cleaning with examination and nothing more to which they assured me that would be all that will provided and nothing more.

When I arrived to the office, the hygienist began taking X-ray's and performed a normal oral exam. The hygienist said everything looked great including my gums. Knowing this already, he said he wanted to call the dentist to visit with me and perform another exam. When the dentist arrived, she began examining further and started asking the same routine questions, despite already answering it previously to 3 separate parties (the front staff, hygienist, and the nurse who took my blood pressure). After concluding the exam the dentist said there are no cavities, gums look great, teeth are in good shape. When I said thank you, she said unfortunately our office can only perform a deep cleaning and there be a separate charge for the cleaning which is not covered by any insurance. When I began asking why a deep cleaning is required since my teeth and gums look great per her exam, she explained that no one qualifies for a routine cleaning the first time they visit their offices and that everyone must have a deep cleaning performed regardless if its required or not. She also explained it was a directive from the business manager.

Sensing this office was trying to make money off of me, I asked to speak to the business manager directly. The business manager came in and said hello today's office visit for the cleaning will be $275.00 plus an additional $75 for the x-ray's. I explained that my insurance covers routine exam as well as a routine cleaning which is what the front office staff had assured me. She apologized and said unfortunately no one qualifies for a routine cleaning for their first visit. The business manager stated the owner had instructed them that this was a directive by and that she was simply following instructions. I argued that this is a dishonest and despite not having a proper diagnosis to perform these unnecessary procedures that this was clearly wrong. I refused the service and left the building.

I thought to get a second & third doctors opinion just to verify the dishonesty. I scheduled 2 additional appointments with 2 different doctors and both mentioned that there were no dental issues at all. In fact I was given a clean bill of dental health. I contacted my insurance company to file a complaint against Smile Design Studios Family & Cosmetic Dentistry as they were listed in their network. My insurance company informed that there were multiple complaints against this practice for the same related issues. As a kind gesture the insurance company reimbursed me for the additional charges this practice was attempting to charge.
If you are new patient or considering to visit this practice please be warned of my experience and the others who have filed complaints with the insurance companies, be prepared to have a dishonest exam performed which will result in out of pocket expenses.

I have been going to SDS for a couple years now. The staff are always so friendly from beginning to end. They make sure I know exactly what is on my treatment plan and answering any questions I have. Plus the office plays very relaxing music and you are able to watch tv while getting your services.

This has been the best dental experience, by far. I came in and the staff were so kind and welcoming. They made me feel comfortable and open to speak about my dental concerns. Always upbeat and positive. The daily complements I get on my new and improved smile 😃 …they are life changing!

Customer service is A one, Dr. Ellis and her team is beyond amazing. The work that has been done on my teeth looks extremely good. I'm a high anxiety patient and they are very patient with me. I recommend this place for all your dental care.

I was very excited to switch my family over to this dental office. Unfortunately my family & I will not be returning. My son’s visit with Dr.Joy was awesome! However, my visit with Dr.Ellis wasn’t the best. I already have a dentist that I go to regularly but I wanted to try this one out as I wanted to a support a black owned business. Firstly I would like to say that this is definitely a money making business. I was told that I had bad teeth which was rude. I was then told by Dr.Ellis that I have a “gummy smile” and she would suggest me to get Botox on my top lip. She then said that she would suggest lasering my gums down to help my teeth appear longer because I had “baby teeth”. She suggested replacing a crown that I have that isn’t even a year old yet because she feels that it was inserted too high. She said she saw two cavity’s in the back of my mouth on the x-ray that was big and needed to be filled sooner than later. Her attitude overall seemed a bit arrogant. I’ve never heard these comments about my teeth until I came to this dentist. The choice of words that you use matter, think before speaking. We will be sticking to our other dentist. Wouldn’t recommend!

Update: I went to my regular dentist to get a second opinion. Turns out I have 0 cavity’s and my crown is in the correct placement.

Smile Design Studios is one of best dentist practices in the Missouri City/Sugar Land area. Dr. Joy is such a caring and personable professional. I really appreciate the time & care she puts into her patients. My dental hygienist Tever was the best!! She definitely understood the assignment when it came to getting my teeth clean. I don’t what anyone else cleaning my teeth but Tever!!!

Love the team! They make you feel very comfortable. Will definitely be returning.
