The House of Pain!!
After 15 years, I decided to try a new dentist in the area that was located closer to my home to save on travel time. I searched my Dental Insurance website and located Ma's Family Dentist in their listing.
I made an appointment and arrive on time at 9 am. The people at the receptionist desk were very professional and had me fill out the new patient forms and I was in the dentist chair within ten minutes of arrival.
The dental technician Sue entered and asking me a few questions regarding my dental history then began to perform a very aggressive and painful gum examination. She poked the perimeter of both my lower and upper gums about 3 times and each revolution pressed harder and harder until she finally drew blood...upon which time she announced, "I see you have some sensitive areas on your gums". This was by far the most painful dental exam I have received in the past 40 years. In retrospect, I now consider the dental exam to be nothing short of TORTURE!
After the exam, the dentist (Dr. Janice Dionisio) entered the room and pronounce based upon the results of our thorough dental exam you need to get a Dental Deep Cleaning to prevent your periodontal disease symptoms from progressing any further. Since I have not missed brushing my teeth twice daily and flossing once daily for the past 40 years combined with no teeth issues since age 12, I easy turned down this very aggressive push to spend some additional money at their dental practice. I did, however, tell her I would be willing to consider her advice if she would put it in writing so I could go and get a second opinion on the issue. She said she would get back to me but I am still waiting to this date.
Ma's Dentist is very professional and high tech with the latest dental equipment but they cannot be trusted to give you sound advice that does not pad their wallets.

I moved to the Alexandria area several years ago and started browsing the web for a highly-reviewed dentist office. After a few bad experiences (like having dental instruments dropped in my mouth while the Doctor was chatting it up with the hygienist to my left side) I decided to continue my search. Shortly thereafter I discovered Ma's Family.
From my very first checkup to this day, I have nothing but positive things to say about this office and staff. They are very friendly and make it a point to remember their patients and address you by name as soon as you enter the waiting room or call them on the phone. The staff and Dr. Dionisio are the consummate professionals and more importantly to me, they're down-to-earth. I would recommend this office to anyone in need of superb dental treatment.
