Great with children Explains procedures well

Doctor Landge has now seen my 5 year old grandson twice. She was wonderful with him. She has an amazing empathy with children.
She explained what she was doing each step of the way and he sat completely still in the chair for her while she took x-rays and then pulled his tooth. We would definitely go to her again.

Poor customer service Long wait times Incompetent staff

I have visited the Department of oral yesterday with a severe pain from wisdom tooth. After initial screening done dental physician I was referred to surgeon(Dr.Steven Sheibley) for extracting the tooth on the same day. After meeting with surgeon he explain the procedure but said that unfortunately they do not have any appointments for the day and said I can schedule one with 2 days and took me to the front desk to set up appointment(I understand surgeons are busy and canโ€™t handle appointments themselves). The front desk lady was on phone when I along with surgeon showed up and hence surgeon said she will be taking care of me and left. I waited for a while to schedule my appointment but the lady gave me a visiting card that has a phone number to schedule appointments and said I can call the following day in the morning to schedule appointment and I left from there. I called the next morning and surprisingly she said there are not appointments until next one week. I am so surprised and reminded her that surgeon said I can schedule something in 2 days. I requested to have it done atleast something in next 3-4 days but she refused. I said Iโ€™m in severe pain and requested her again but she circastically said all our patients are in pain and insisted to take appointment on the day she gives. I said, surgeon told there are appointments available and her response was bizzare: she said surgeons doesnโ€™t have access to the system. I think UAB needs to hire employees who can treat their patients properly when they are charging so much money. Unfortunately, I do not have know the front desk lady name otherwise, I would have shared it.

Emergency Dental Care Affordable Services Compassionate Staff

In 2014 I had a terribly abscessed tooth that suddenly started hurting like the devil himself was attempting to rearrange my brain via my jaw. It was excruciating, to say the very least. My usual dentist could not see me in an acceptable amount of time, and I was also traveling to Birmingham for school daily-- about an hour and a half drive, one way-- so I begged the internet to help me find a dentist who could pull a tooth of a horribly anxiety ridden terrified patient who might look like an adult but retreated into toddler status when confronted by dental tools, and one who I could afford, as I had no insurance to speak of. They overwhelmingly recommended UAB dental school clinic, so I called up the emergency dental clinic and begged for an appointment asap. They got me in the next day, but were not able to provide me with any kind of ballpark estimate for the procedure, which I already knew would be a complex extraction on a molar and would require nitrous and a calm provider. It was actually kind of rough dealing with their administrative staff, both on the phone and in person. I realize these people see patients from all walks of life and a lot of them are scared, in pain, broke, and in need of a compassionate ally. The office staff was not that ally for me, unfortunately. I arrived for my appointment, filled out paperwork, and proceeded to wait about three hours before I was seen, which I understand is normal. I was already crying by the time they got me into the chair, but my student provider was really, really kind, and she held my hand and talked to me and distracted me with ridiculous jokes until I could calm down a little. She examined my mouth, then the area of complaint. She wrote down what she thought the treatment plan should be to address the problem, and took it to her supervisor dentist and he did a quick exam and approved it. She started with the numbing shots which were actually the least painful numbing shots I've ever had. That shocked me! And y'all, before I even realized she was done with the shots, she had my tooth snatched right out of me!! I did not even have to use nitrous! It was the fastest extraction I've ever had, and I've had A FRIGGIN BUNCH. That part of my experience was phenomenal. They hooked me up with some antibiotics and sent me on my way.
My bill ended up being$300+ for one extraction. If I'm being honest, I've paid less than that at private dentists that were a whole lot closer to me. That part wasn't so great, as I'd been led to believe this was a less costly alternative to private dentists.
Overall, a good experience, I would return for like routine cleanings, and am considering taking my daughter to the orthodontic clinic. I currently need extensive work done, I need bone grafts and implants and all kinds of awful stuff, uggggg, but I hesitate to say I'm comfortable going here only because they were not transparent about pricing, and that matters for me. I would consider a free consultation, but I don't think they offer one, just a heads up. Good luck, I hope whoever reads this gets their dental issues solved quickly and easily ๐Ÿ–ค

Best Care Knowledgeable Dentists Exceptional Student

Absolutely the best care I have ever received! I have been to many dentists and spent $$$$ on dental work only to have it done poorly... I understand they are students... yet they are overseen by the dentists who are VERY knowledgeable and for the first time I am receiving care from the team at UAB. I also believe the student who is assigned to me is wonderful and he is going to do exceptionally well in his field work!!

Rude Staff Poor Treatment No Manners Not Recommended

This place is TERRIBLE. My husband went today to get X-rays and have his teeth worked on, the office staff are so rude. They was not just rude to us but everyone they came in contact with. I seen so many elderly individuals that just needed to ask a quick question get treated so poorly by them. No manners at all. I would not recommend anyone to go here and to think this place is associated with UAB and part of them!! I wish I would have videoed one ladies behavior!

I went to UAB School of Dentistry today and had an absolutely fantastic experience. I was in extreme pain for last couple of days with a broken tooth that had become infected, they got me right in, right back at that same day and took care of my problem, staff was out of this world nice, went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable, I would absolutely recommend this place to anybody with any kind of dental needs they are absolutely the best. I will definitely be back for all my dental work in the future thank you to the UAB School of Dentistry and all you fine people that work there. A big thank you.

The facilities and care offered by the UAB School of Dentistry are outstanding, but the convoluted process for entering and exiting its parking lot is idiotic.
