What a wonderful dental experience! During a cleaning, my hygienist noticed an odd shadow on one tooth and asked the doctor to check it which he did. It turned out to be an extremely small cavity between two teeth, very small, but nonetheless there. Dr Livingston and his crew had me numbed, prepped and filled in within 20 minutes. So between having my teeth cleaned and the filling, I was in and out within an hour. And all that efficiency came with smiles and consideration for this dyed in the wool dental phobe! I can’t recommend this office and it’s staff enough!

At the end of my cleaning at Modern Family Dentistry (MFD), I was charged $17 for 2 services that I did not ask for at the beginning and that the hygienist delivered without disclosing the cost. I expressed my disagreement to the office manager for not being told the cost of a cancer screening ($10) and fluoride application ($7) before the hygienist performed the screening and applied the fluoride (without disclosing at any moment that both services came at an extra cost). They assumed that I wanted the 2 services by default, but I did not. I just wanted my regular cleaning covered 100% by my dental insurance, just like the last time I visited MFD. I immediately expressed my disagreement and highlighted that this behavior was not aligned with best practices and consumer protection legislation, which was rejected by the office assistant in a clear lack of understanding of consumer rights and patient-health practitioner regulations . After paying (as if I had a choice), I left but immediately I called MFD to talk to the dentist/supervisor to express my concern and disagreement. The office assistant picked up and promised to void the charge on my credit card. Another person that I referred to MFD had a similar experience. Even though the quality of the services is good, be aware that they will try to push the sales with or without your consent. So always make sure that they disclose the cost of any additional services or products that are not covered by your insurance. I miss my family dentist in Tucson. I never had a bitter taste with his practice because he observed best business practices such as disclosing costs of services and asking for the consent of the customer.
