Very professional and friendly staff.
The dental technician was careful and gentle when removing my temporary crown.
Dr. Shementi custom fit the crown to ensure the spacing between the permanent crown and my real teeth had adequate spacing to allow easy flossing.

I definitely would NOT recommend this place staff was pleasant however they say they offer free consultation and free exams for new patients and that's not the truth upon leaving they offered free toothpaste and toothbrush and said oh its a 60 fee for this office visit and I asked to speak to personal in charge to clear this up because prior to going to this appointment I double checked will this be a free consultation I was told yes !!! Unfortunately I was charged and I will NEVER return to that place or recommend anyone to go there and get charged these hidden costs or unexpected charges!!!! Unprofessional

I've only ever had positive experiences here, and I've been going for about 6 years. Everything is super clean, and everyone is so nice and thorough (when it comes to cleanings/checkups). My teeth have never been better, thanks to their work and encouragement.

Tomoka Family Dentistry is a welcoming, efficient, and smartly-staffed office. The hygienists and Dr. Schimenti are very friendly and thorough in their work. I would highly recommend this office to anyone, whether a family of all ages or someone who needs a standard dental checkup!

I have been coming here for several years and have always received great treatment and care until recently. When I came in for my 6 month cleaning, the hygienist (not my usual one) brought me back and wanted to immediately perform a "Panoramic" x-ray exam in addition to a full mouth bitewing x-ray series. I declined the Panorex scan, which was shocking to the hygienist. She ask why and I explained to her that I had received lots of radiation exposure in my profession and also that insurance usually doesn't pay for this scan. I was informed that the scan was free, but I still declined. She then proceeded to take at least 12 bitewing films, more than I remember being necessary.
After my cleaning Dr. Schimenti came in and also questioned me as to why I didn't want the Panorex scan. At this point I felt like I was being pressured into having it done and that my declining this free dose of radiation to my head and neck was frowned upon. I asked her what the purpose of it would be when several bitewing x-rays had already been performed. Her response was that it could show sinusitis, abscesses, and bone tumors. I knew I didn't have the first 2 so I then asked her what the statistics were of finding a malignant bone tumor in a healthy, asymptomatic patient and she could not give me an answer. (The answer is it's extremely rare.) She then added that there is very little radiation exposure from the Panorex scan....(you already did 12 dental x-rays! If you can't see a tumor on those images then there isn't one!) There is something called ALARA...keeping a patient's radiation exposure to "as low as reasonable achievable". I guess they don't teach that in Dental school.
The reality is some patients do benefit from this Panoramic image; however, it should NOT be used as a "screening tool" for bone cancer in healthy, asymptomatic patients to justify padding the bill. Also, Radiologists don't interpret this "Panorex" scan, so if the Dentist sees anything abnormal they are going to recommend having a CT scan. Guess what...more radiation exposure and more $$$. And if the Radiologist isn't satisfied that it's a benign process...guess what....they are going to recommend further imaging and/or a biopsy. All for a simple benign bone cyst or bone island.
In the real world, insurance companies don't pay for CAT SCANS of the chest in healthy, asymptomatic, non-smokers. A Chest X-ray is done first and THEN, if there are any abnormal findings, a CAT SCAN would be recommended. Thanks, but just because an exam is free doesn't mean you should get it done. Next time I'll just give you the $130 for the Panorex scan and pass on the unnecessary radiation exposure and needle in my jaw.

They don't allow NO stars. I was quoted a price, when Dr started my blood pressure was extremely high and was sent to the urgent care. I was told when I could get my blood pressure in check to come back. Granted it took me about 4 or 5 months to get it stable but I went back in for the original procedure. After the procedure while I was still on meds from the anxiety I was asked to pay a different amount than signed for. I was told the discount that originally we had agreed upon was NO longer valid and I would have to pay the full amount. I would like to inform anyone going there you have to double check before everything bc they are NOT going to tell you, just try to rip you a new one.

Outstanding service from front desk to dentist. Walked in with an tooth emergency at 4:30 pm they close at 5 pm. They took me in and I am from out of state. Excellent treatment with no pain and even got a consultation to help me decide on my current treatment in new york. Highly recommended.

I started seeing Dr. Schimenti after a few years of no dental care and I had quite a few problems. At no point was I shamed or made to feel bad because I had neglected my teeth which was greatly appreciated. I feel like that is a big reason some people won't see a dentist. Instead, she put me on a plan to get me back on track and now my teeth are so much better. I have been a patient about 3 years now and the quality of care is consistant throughout the staff. I have had at least 3 different hygienists over time and all have been excellent. Dr. Schimenti is patient, explains things to you and has a friendly and professional bedside manner. I would highly recommend this office.
