While they were correct, I received absolutely the worst customer service from any company.

I will acknowledge that- within the verification of benefits- there are two separate X-rays that are covered at two different rates, but they have the same frequency. The problem with this is that I would not be able to differentiate between the two X-rays at the dental office as the nomenclature would be something I wouldn’t have a familiarity with. For what reason would I have to tell the dental office to NOT perform an X-Ray that is a 100% covered type of service under my coverage? I would hope that if the dental office wouldn’t denigrate me about knowing about what is covered, especially if they did not present me with an estimate/invoice delineating what I would have to pay before services are rendered. If they had I would have, I would then have an opportunity to then converse with my insurance. I did not receive an estimate/invoice before services were performed. This is probably overkill for a routine examination, but if they would have done this OR acknowledged how difficult it would’ve been for me to be able to predict that the dental office would perform a basic procedure that lies outside of what the insurance covered. Either of these actions would’ve endeared me to them, especially since one of the X-Rays wasn’t covered due to office error (or greed at this point)- they performed an unnecessary type of X-Rays in one visit.

In addition to this, I never received a call back from one of the assistants when I initially spoke to them. I was also insulted at least three times by various medical assistants. From them telling me that they were “embarrassed” regarding my non-payment when I reached out and bridged the silence on their end to dismissively construing my efforts to understand their stance (so I could compare their evidence against the insurance company) as willful stupidity. When I called back to try and explain that the insurance concurred with their opinion that there was poor communication in reference the X-Rays, they wouldn’t let me speak! This is what made me feel disrespected and that the dental office cared ONLY about their money. This isn’t to say that they shouldn’t get paid, but they don’t care about getting to the truth, however complicated it may be. This is additionally supported by the fact that the dental office never called me to explain, on good faith, that the reason that they were billing me was because of the faulty communication between themselves and the insurance. Especially since they were under the impression, at the time of the appointment, that the procedures would be covered at 100% as well. I would have been extremely grateful to them as a result.

When I attempted to get a clarification about the documentation received (since there was a miscommunication regarding the documentation they received prior to my appointment), she remarked that she already explained everything to me and that I wouldn’t understand anyway. My goal was to compare the information with the documents that I received from the insurance to ensure I was being fair, but she wouldn’t even give me that opportunity. I was treated as if I didn’t have a semblance of cognition. It has been one of the worst customer experiences I have ever had.

In contrast, the conversations with the insurance company were at worst, fair, and at best, pleasant. The insurance reviewed their call and determined there wasn’t sufficient information provided to the dental office. They paid the amount billed to me.

Everyone is so respectful. With me having extreme anxiety about dentist they did an amazing job at making sure I was comfortable and letting me know everything they was about to do!

The Best dentist in Gastonia. They've helped with with it all, and brought my teeth back from the brink of destruction. Thank you!!

I’ve seen the reviews and thought I’d try this place out. It wasn’t for me at all. Glad it’s worked for other people but all of my experiences here were not good in the slightest. It feels like they just want the money. I was about 18 and my wisdom teeth were coming in, I didn’t have any pain with them other than them beginning to come in, and there was a tooth that was bothering me and had a deep cavity. Came here, the dental assistants were great but the actual dentist was very cold and rushed a lot. Didn’t make me feel comfortable in the slightest and I had a bit of anxiety with dentist anyways. They said I’d have to extract all my wisdom teeth because there just wasn’t enough room. I’ve had no problems with my wisdom teeth at all, and they said my damaged tooth just couldn’t be saved so we’d need to extract that one as well. I’m disabled so I’m not able to work due to my disability, and I have insurance. They didn’t give me an option for a cap to cover the tooth they were pulling that would be covered by my insurance. I didn’t even know there was an option until I went to another dentist. Gave me a paper on a payment plan, was gonna send me to another dentist for the extractions all the way in Charlotte. It was such a hassle, and the exam was also very painful and they didn’t seem to care when I’d say something hurt. I have a pretty good pain tolerance too. I left in tears to say the least lol. A friend recommended me to her dentist, went there and they were amazing. Said there is enough room for my wisdom teeth and they didn’t need to be extracted, and they did an amazing root canal on my damaged tooth, was able to save it, gave me a cap that was covered by my insurance, and I’ve never looked back. Again, I’ve heard a lot of people’s experiences with them have been amazing and if it works for you go for it. But I wanted to share my story and situation to help anyone. I’m 20 now and haven’t had any issues with my teeth since.

Highest recommendation to Dr. Shamah and everyone at Dentistry of the Carolinas! I truly believe that Dr. Shamah was born to be a dentist; absolutely amazing. The staff is really friendly and caring as well. While I needed a very complicated procedure, Dr. Shamah, Jessica, and Star went the extra mile to make me feel comfortable. They were very through and caring. (I am not afraid of the dentist after this experience). Simply put, there is no other dentist I would go to or recommend. When you find the best, you keep it! Thank you for the great experience and quality work you have done on my teeth.

Great dentistry practice!! My family has been going here since 2010! Dr. Shamah did a wonderful job doing a recent adjustment and Chrissy the hygienist is the best!! All the staff I’ve gotten to know are very caring and friendly - definitely a practice to highly recommend!

My husband had to have a tooth extracted and the whole team here is amazing. They got him in same day I called. He got one tooth pulled but had to be referred to an oral surgeon for the other tooth which is fine. They are affordable and efficient. Such a personable staff.we couldn't have asked for better. We will definitely recommend them. Dr.B was amazing.

The staff is super friendly and very professional as well, this was the first time where I go to a dentist and wish to spend more time at the office 😊. Crissy did great job cleaning my teeth, Dr. Shamah checked my X-Rays and gave me recommendations accordingly.
The office is very clean, they do check temperature and make sure COVID-19 guidelines are followed which made me even more comfortable.
