2021: wouldn’t recommend - the staff upfront was unprofessional and the main dentist was late to get there to more than one appointment I had there. They told me I had 7 cavities, after never having one before in my life. I unfortunately didn’t get a second opinion and got them all filled, one of which was pretty painful. In the end, I’m not sure it was necessary. I switched dentists after this and wouldn’t recommend.
2018: Very friendly staff who made the visit feel so comfortable to me. Very up to date in all their technology. And a pain free, quick cleaning.

I was happy with my experience coming here before, but I’m knocking a star off my review because of an uncomfortable experience I had today. Let’s just say a good nurse is EVERYTHING for a dentist’s patient.

Last time, the nurse was on top of it! Catching everything & making sure I was comfortable. An easy breezy experience. Today, with a different nurse, I kept choking on saliva(+) because the nurse wasn’t being attentive enough to catch everything that was going into my throat. She also completely left a few times so I didn’t have anyone to help clear the mess in my mouth while the Dr. was working.

The Dr. is always super nice, but I was thrown off when he defended her instead of believing me, the patient, who was clearly choking… He brushed my discomfort off, saying it was because my throat was numb(it wasn’t), and at the end he appeared to “quit” and said if I’m not happy with it to just “come back tomorrow” which also felt pretty rude. I didn’t make a big deal out of it, but my throat is definitely NOT numb and I was simply not taken care of by this nurse in the way I would expect from any dentist office. After he defended her and assured me that she was doing her job, she FINALLY started catching everything more carefully, but this only happened at the end of our session, after I had to take breaks because I was choking so much & feeling claustrophobic from it. The nurse apologized at the end. I think she knew she wasn’t doing her best.

Anyway, I’m just leaving this here in hopes the nurses at this establishment understand how important their role is for our comfort. Please don’t leave us to choke! Your care and attention makes or breaks this experience.

They lied to me about the state of my teeth - told me I had cavities and needed deep cleaning. I learned neither was true after consulting with another dentist. For their treatment for my supposed cavities they put sealant on the tops of my teeth - a procedure generally reserved for children under 6 to PREVENT cavities not treat them. They also overcharged me and once I learned from my insurance what the actual rate was, it took me two months to get my money back from them. Please don’t waste your time by going to this place.

I've been a patient of Dr. Y for over 8 years. He is one of the best Dentists in all of VA. Dr. Y is personable, friendly, has great hands, and always knows the best course of action to take in any situation. If you are in need of a great Dentist, I recommend you see Dr. Y at Gentle Care Dentists.

Be aware of of over-billing months and years after service done which is to that you may not dispute it with insurance company after the 90 days. Was charged for a covid test by a dental assistance. Read the reviews carefully and stay away

They're quick and clean and I love the TVs, massage chairs, and music. Makes it a nice experience!

UPDATE: I had a particularly bad experience and I thought it worthwhile to warn people. (Seems like some reviewers on Yelp have had insurance snafus similar to mine as well.)

I went for a routine checkup last year, all fine until I got a bill MONTHS later. Turns out, the dentist they set me up with was NOT in-network with my insurance and there was NO warning about this. (Two years ago, they DID put me with an in-network dentist and there was no charge.) I would encourage anyone who goes here to monitor this VERY closely. Of course, I have since changed employers and tracking down this information with the old insurance was a huge hassle. I feel pretty misled about what to expect, particularly since I'd had such a smooth experience the first time.

I would NOT go back for a checkup again.

This practice is very deceitful. I was led to Believe that I was getting an estimate for a cleaning which was not done due to the fact that I was deceived in regards to my TRICARE Coverage which they had in advance
They tried to charge me over $1,000! For a deep cleaning with insurance
I declined but they went ahead and billed my insurance and also wanted to bill me $71

I called back to speak to Abby the office coordinator who was incredibly rude and dismissive and refused to let me talk to Dr Y

Dr Y eventually stated that Abby is the owner of the practice

We have never been treated any worse than this by a Dentist office

Dr Y did call back and unfortunately was equally unhelpful and stated he could only address clinical matters but not the over billing

Towards the end of our conversation, she stated that she was recording our conversation with Dr. Y on the line while discussing private clinical matters. Bear in mind, SHE CALLED me and did not disclose that my conversation will be recorded. Illegal in the State of Virginia.

0 star is what they’re worth.

Saw Dr. Y . Great experience the staff was professional and friendly . Dr. Y explained x-rays and how my teeth were doing clearly and thoroughly. It showed through his attention to detail and overall professionalism that he was on top of his craft. Thanks again !

Dr Chang is very nice, and he answered all my questions with patience. I really appreciated that he empathized my situation and gave his professional opinion on the options I have. Unfortunately I don’t have insurance (I purchased a dental saving plan but it didn’t actually bring down the total cost!), this office is definitely at the higher end of pricing. I compared the quotes from another dental office and here the price is doubled.
The front desk is ridiculously unprofessional. I made my first appointment on Zocdoc, the front desk called me and told me to cancel on that website. I asked her then what are the availability they have, she didn’t know... it took her a while to call me back with the doctor’s availability, and told me the doctor I booked cannot performance treatment I needed, so I asked for her recommendation and she gave me a last name. I asked what’s the doctor’s full name (I was going to do some due diligence for sure) and she didn’t know! She didn’t know the name of the doctor she was recommending! Ok, this should have been the red flag, but I went anyway. While we are waiting for the COVID test results to come out, I asked if I may use the restroom and one of the front desk person didn’t let me go until we get the results. I totally understand, but after a few minutes another lady saw me and asked if I needed to go to the restroom. I ran to use the restroom and I felt my most miserably intolerable 15 minutes were sacrificed with no meaning. After the diagnosis the front desk went over the price breakdown with me, and again rudely.
Overall experience was fine with the doctor, but the front desk was improvising and unprofessional.
