No time wasted here, Doc and his Assistants are very respectful and caring when it comes to us patients.
I normally don’t like going to dentist, but Doc helped me get over that fear and gave me the proper care I needed. On top of that Doctors Krauss makes sure you know what he is doing. He gives through details on all of his procedures and he makes sure your comfortable, that’s very helpful to me. like I said before, he helped me get over my fears!! Thanks Doc!! -Ronnie

RUN, don’t walk!!!! I have absolutely no idea how Dr. Krauss has been in business so long with such disrespectful bed side manners and terribly unfriendly and unhappy women at the front desk!! Dr. Krauss walked into the room and crumbled up a piece of paper the dental assistant was holding in her hand!!! Didn’t sit down and get history of patient(my boyfriend). Automatically said these teeth need to all get pulled. Got quoted WAY too high for Kern County and horse looking teeth he does (before and after photos!!)We already have a consult with our primary, Dr. Parks (formerly Dr. Gordon’s office) who is located in Shafter, CA; honest, kind, compassionate and absolutely wonderful front desk and team! Doesn’t see money, only the patient!

This is based on my honest recollection and opinion of transpired events. My last visit to this office was over two years ago, but I’m writing this review now in an effort to help others.

I chose Dr. Krauss's office because of all the good online reviews, but I wish I had read the worst reviews first. Dr. Krauss's responses (if they are still posted) to these reviews are also not a good sign. Vindictive, rude, and overly defensive responses to a client's negative experiences are not appropriate, and saying that the authors of those negative reviews were never patients when they clearly have specific and patterned experiences is, at BEST, unprofessional.

In the office, Dr. Krauss was charismatic and nice the first few times I visited. It was not until later that I felt his treatment of me worsen. It was also surprisingly common to hear Dr. Krauss raising his voice and speaking harshly to the staff.

During my initial consultation, Dr. Krauss informed me that he would remove one wisdom tooth since it was coming in sideways and impacting the tooth in front of it. During the next appointment, after the wisdom tooth was extracted, I was told that due to damage to the impacted tooth, it would be best for me to get a graft to "save the tooth". I was not told how much this would cost at the time, I was under local anesthesia, and I consented with a nod of my head and an “uh huh” when Dr. Krauss said something to the effect of, “Is that okay with you?” After the graft was completed, I was told I would eventually require a permanent crown on the impacted tooth and was given a temporary one while my sutures healed.

I was still under my parents' insurance (I was 22 and in college), and since one parent worked for the county and the other in health care, I was fortunate and privileged to have excellent insurance. However, after the procedure, I was still required to pay an additional $700 because my insurance would not cover the graft. I was also asked to sign a form during the payment process that stated I was provided with all financial and procedural information about the graft PRIOR to the grafting process. Though that wasn’t true, I signed it out of internal fear of maltreatment and worry that the rest of my procedure (taking stitches out, crowning the tooth, etc.) would not be completed. I knew it would be hard to go elsewhere because it is a liability for a dentist to complete the work another dentist has begun. My dad was beside me when I signed those papers after the procedure.

From then on, I had severe anxiety before coming into the clinic. During the next visit, I was numbed, the temporary crown was removed, and the permanent one was tested… only for me to be sent home with the temporary crown again because the permanent one was not "perfect". This occurred a few more times about every six weeks. While I appreciated their striving towards perfection, the constant numbing and swelling worried me. During one visit, I got anxious and called my mother for advice. I immediately felt Dr. Krauss's attitude change and he spoke over me while I tried to ask questions. I told him I had been very respectful this entire time, but was genuinely concerned, and he responded by condescendingly saying he wouldn't sign off on sub-par work. I ended up crying in the chair while the assistants (and I believe a dental resident) finished re-fitting the temporary crown on me. A day or two after the visit, I received flowers at my home with an attached note stating "Regards, Dr. Krauss". I took a photo of the note and discarded the flowers.

During the next appointment, I finally received my permanent crown. I signed a request for my medical records to be released to me and took a photo of the request. Over ONE YEAR later- and only after I left a recorded voicemail with the office informing them that I had a picture of my request and was aware of my HIPAA rights- did they provide my records.

I urge you to be careful.

*I do NOT consent to Dr. Krauss or his office sharing protected information related to my care here*

Love, love, love! To say you’ve had a pleasant time at the dentist is rare. The reception is cozy, it feels like you’ve walked into someone living room. Once I went to the back everything was so clean and it smelled AMAZING. Noticing all the small touches made me feel so comforted and a lot less anxious to being there.

I have to go back in 6 weeks to get a filling - possibly a crown. I’ll make sure to update my post!

This experience was the best dental experience I have ever had! I was nervous and embarrassed because I had not seen a dentist in 10 years and I thought this visit was going to be all bad news. My previous dental experiences at other places left me feeling anxious and hopeless.

Yesterday I feel like I was given a fresh start at oral health. The hygienist, Katie, did an amazing job cleaning my teeth! She did not make me feel embarrassed. Instead, she comforted me that this was going to put me on my way to a healthy mouth.

Dr. Krause and his team made me feel comfortable and hopeful. I have never left a dental office smiling with hope and joy in my heart. They are professional and compassionate people. Bakersfield is lucky to have them!!!

I walked out of my consultation with a big smile. Very informative and Dr. Krause was super nice and office staff was extremely pleasant. Can’t wait to get my new teeth done there in a couple weeks.

My experience at Smile Design was great. Almost 5 stars 100%. My dental assistants were so sweet and amazing. My confidence was at a 0 when I went there, and I was nervous and embarrassed. The staff handled it great and helped me come up with a plan to change my life entirely. I got a brand new smile. The weight of that blow to my self esteem is 100% gone. As far as the clinical aspect and work done, 5 stars. My teeth have never looked better. The only thing I would change about my experience at all was the billing aspect of things. I’ve been to this office many times and I’ve always been uncomfortable with the way they approach billing. They aren’t shy about asking about payments, in front of everyone. My last visit I was told I wouldn’t receive my last crown, that was paid for in my original treatment plan because of an unexpected bill due to a tooth needing extracted DURING a procedure where I had received nitrous.i wouldn’t have consented (couldn’t actually consent because I couldn’t speak) had I known the repercussion would be to take away my final permanent crown unexpectedly. Now, upon approaching it, though it wasn’t handled great and I didn’t feel understood, Dr. Krauss was kind enough to move forward and place my crown (Front tooth). I left the office with a new smile and I love it. The absolute only thing I would change is the situation regarding consent and billing. The procedure went smooth and changed my life. I was told to leave an HONEST review, so I did. If you’re considering having work done at smile design, I recommend it 100%. The dental procedures are wonderful and the staff is great. Dr Krauss knows what he is doing. I wouldn’t change my decision.
