Dr. Bertram J. Hughes, DMD

Dr. Bertram and his team did a great job welcoming me as a new patient. I was having a really rough day (trying to squeeze into an appointment during a very limited window due to pandemic related childcare issues) and they were so kind and offered me such great care. Looking forward to my next visit!

Truly a terrific experience! Not something you usually say about a trip to the dentist, but I went in this week and I’ve never had a better experience at a dentist. The admin staff at check-in was warm and inviting and my hygienist, Robin, was personable, kind, and gentle. Dr. Hughes made me feel at ease and was impressively knowledgeable and talented. Both Dr. Hughes and his team are first class - Strongly recommend!

After being patrons of this man for years with five children he feels the need to belittle their mother because her voice is slightly louder than normal. Then tells her she is embarrassing her daughters by asking the dentist questions to which he answers she simply isn't brushing good enough. This is the first event of it's kind with any of my children and she was asking the questions a normal caring mother would. This type of treatment is not acceptable or tolerable and we will be going elsewhere from now on. The reviews speak for themselves, don't bother. Spend your (or your insurance's) money somewhere else.

Update: took our daughter somewhere else where the tooth was extracted that was causing the infection. Never again will we visit this disrespectful dentist. I would recommend you do the same.

I had a wonderful experience with their courteous and friendly staff. My dental hygiene care was second to none; my teeth still feel clean after several days. Dr. Hughes is very patient and thorough. I would love to go back soon, this time bringing the family.

Every time I have taken my daughter to Dr. Hughes office the staff has been very pleasant and professional. They get her in quickly and always update me on what she had done and what she needs to work on with her teeth so that her teeth stay cavity free and healthy.

This Dr. doesn't deserve one star! HORRIBLE SERVICE! On 11/30/2020 I took my daughter to Dr. Bertram Hugh’s for a cap placement after a root canal was performed a month prior. When I scheduled the appointment the assistant purposely arranged the appointment a month out so that the tooth and gums would be healed enough to receive the cap placement. My daughter was called to the back and returned about 30 minutes later. I was sitting in my car waiting and the Dental Assistant Danielle briefed me on what was done and said that the cap placement was not completed due to needing an authorization from the insurance. I asked why wasn’t the authorization requested well before my daughter’s appointment? Danielle became very hostile and aggressive with me raising her voice. She refused to answer any of my questions and stormed off to get Dr. Hugh’s. I waited in the lobby for him. He immediately came from the back with a very nasty disposition. I asked if we could talk privately, he said no. The entire time we conversed he was very rude and unprofessional. He discussed my insurance information in front of other patients. Apparently, based on the type of insurance you have, will define how a patient is treated at this office. He was not concerned in the slightest bit about Danielle’s behavior and unprofessionalism. Not only did he belittle me and discuss my insurance private information in front of other patients, he acted as if I was a waste of his time. The way he looked at me was a look of pure hatred! I have been told by former African American patients that Dr. Hugh’s does not respect his “black” patients especially WOMEN! I have experienced this behavior from him for a few years now. Enough is enough, we deserve to be treated with dignity and respect! My daughter is afraid of him. He doesn’t say anything to her, he just ignores her. There is no patient, provider relationship. He is very unfriendly to certain patients. Dr. Hugh’s portrays a double standard for blacks vs whites in my opinion and former patients opinions…again, especially black women. I was very frustrated with Dr. Hugh’s and his assistant Danielle. Danielle is very disrespectful but its allowed. If he would have taken the time to listen rather than judge and disrespect me, maybe the outcome would have been different. I really feel bad for the one black young lady that works in the office. Hopefully, she’ll walk on water so that she can be respected.

I had a great experience here! I returned as a new patient after too many years away from any dentist. Dr. Hughes and each of his team gave me helpful information and encouragement to get my dental health back on track. I will gladly return for follow-up treatment and regular cleanings.

Simply excellent dental services. They're always easy to schedule with, actually call back when they say they will, they have great time management and don't keep you in the waiting room for ages, have transparent prices, friendly professional staff, and I never get the sense they're pushing unnecessary treatments on me like other practices in town do. Wish I had found them earlier.

I'm very confused by all the bad reviews. I came in last week for a regular check-up. The first thing I noticed was that the ladies at the front desk were incredibly friendly and nice, which is something I find to be a rarity in secretaries at health offices. The wait to be called back was long, but this is pretty typical of doctors/dentists appointments. I hardly ever get called back any faster than 30 mins after my appointment time. The hygienist that saw me first was very nice. We had a pleasant conversation while she did the X-rays on my teeth. She cleaned my teeth and after seeing some concerns about my incoming wisdom teeth, she asked Hughes to come in and check over her work as well as give her a second opinion about the wisdom teeth. Hughes found that one of my sealants needed to be redone, so he did that. I was then written a referral to another office to get a second opinion about the issue with my wisdom teeth. I'm so appreciative of this!! In the past, I have been to multiple dentists and I really think they're out for as much money as possible--they could always find a million and one problems with my teeth. I love that he thought I should get a second opinion instead of immediately insisting that I need braces, which cost a boatload. I'll definitely be going here regularly.

Dr. Bert and his staff are incredibly friendly! From the friendly greetings over the phone, to the front desk staff helping check in, to the staff that has to do the “hard stuff”...it was so laid back I barely felt I was at the dentist! I have already and do highly recommend Dr. Bert and his team if you’re looking for a new dentist!
